Sun 950 holiday cancelled today

Hi, has anyone else had their sun holidays cancelled? I got an email today saying the holiday I've booked in France isn't available (even though it's still available on the auto amp website!) so they've cancelled it. But I've booked flights that are non-refundable. From the sound of it many people have been affected. I can't get through on the phone line to see if they'll give me money for my flights I now can't use

It was called Le Clarys Plage. Yes flights are Friday to Friday. So annoying. Have found some other sites for around 500 for a week but will need to change flights etc as Hope I don't have to pay too much more. From looking online there's around 3000 people affected.

This is very poor by Sun holidays!

Embracelife · 19/01/2020 12:41

If 3000 people write to the Sun you might achieve something...sun owners can afford to pay up...send a sad face photo to Sun ...."only holiday ruined by Sun " ... call good morning Britain...get some publicity...

Starisnotanumber · 19/01/2020 12:50

With Ryanair all flights are individual they are not sold on a return basis. If you can get a Saturday to Saturday booking you could go home a day early on the Friday so you don't have to change that flight.
You loose a day's holiday but won't need to pay extra

Hi I had the same email yesterday afternoon ( Saturday ), and I too was extremely annoyed, we are going to Tuscany in Italy and it was supposed to be a cheap way of travelling, I also looked on the eurocamp website and that date in August is still available. The only other dates available were June & Sept which is no good. I phoned and said we could have booked other parks in Aug but have missed out on them now due to there stupidity and error, and all they are offering is a £25 goodwill refund. I have now had to re-book with eurocamp for the same date and it is costing £800 more, so it`s not really a good deal. I would phone them and try and negotiate a deal otherwise take it further, or report to the Sun paper. I really hope you still get to go and get some help. All the best.

worriedandannoyed · 19/01/2020 13:18

Yes I had thought of keeping the flights, staying in a hotel on the Friday night and then only having 6 days there. It's all just so expensive though. To change my flights will cost £270. If only eurocamps had realised sooner, because ryanair let you change flights with no fee within 24 hours of booking. I'm so upset that I now have to pay out more money that will really affect my finances for months or lose £400 flights.

I don't want to call today as my children don't know I've booked anything and I don't want them to overhear my conversation and get excited. I'll have to wait until they're at school tomorrow. I'm thinking I might have to just book the same campsite and swallow the extra cost.

B and b Hotel nantes Airport is coming in at 88.00 for 4 on 21 August with booking.com if you can only get Saturday to Saturday its cheaper than changing your flights

Clymene · 19/01/2020 13:28

How many kids do you have? I'm sure we cam find you something cheaper Smile

Salene · 19/01/2020 13:32

Try air bnb for accommodation

Starisnotanumber · 19/01/2020 13:33

Are you a single parent, they have a single parent discount on eurocamp site of 75.00 off per booking.

worriedandannoyed · 19/01/2020 13:36

You're all so helpful I feel really tearful today trying to sort this so we still get a holiday.

I have two children, that's really helpful to know about the single parent discount and the hotel in Nantes thank you. I've found a better campsite where a caravan is around 500 euros from the Saturday. It could mean we can save money on transfers if we stay in Nantes as we could get the train/bus to the campsite the next day at our leisure.

I'm wondering if eurocamps will at least honour paying peoples fees to change flights

The hotel is free cancellation so I'd have a look and see if it suits, it's a quadruple room if you want to book it. Usually there's not many large rooms, if there just the 3 of you then maybe a double room with extra bed.
I will keep looking

worriedandannoyed · 19/01/2020 13:58

I've found a better campsite which will cost 680 but will be from 21st so I might just book it. It's in the beach and next to a town so should still be able to eat etc cheaply

https://www.allcamps.co.uk/camping/france/loire-atlantique/camping-la-roseraie

£417 and runs Friday to Friday Smile

Starisnotanumber · 19/01/2020 14:03

Premiere classe nantes airport sud reze Airport 57.00 including breakfast for a triple room with free cancellation. It's a 2 mile taxi ride from airport.
35.00 for basic room no breakfast pay now but an all you can eat breakfast is a treat

WrongKindOfFace · 19/01/2020 14:13

Is there any chance you could go the following week? The sites all seem to be significantly cheaper. If depends though when the children return to school.

worriedandannoyed · 19/01/2020 14:20

Clymene that one looks lovely, I haven't come across that one in my search. Thank you I'll probably book it.

We can't go the following week as my eldest goes back to school on the 1st.

You lovely people thank you for your help 😊

There are lots of campsites in the same Town en.saint-jean-de-monts.com/campsites.html.

Clymene · 19/01/2020 14:40

Smile it does look lovely

foodtoorder · 19/01/2020 14:42

Have you tried costing it up with any discount codes?
NHS workers get quite heavily discounted rates with euro camp if anyone has one that can help?

OneHanded · 19/01/2020 14:45

Unfortunately this is why you need travel insurance. You book a holiday you immediately book travel insurance.

Northernsoullover · 19/01/2020 14:54

I hope you get something. This is appalling..

worriedandannoyed · 19/01/2020 16:12

Unfortunately it's been a very stressful week with a family member in hospital shortly after I booked the holiday. Juggling work kids and that meant I hadn't got round to booking travel insurance yet. I had actually got a quote while sitting at the hospital bored the other day but didn't have my purse on me to book it!

Hi, this has also happened to me. Booked really early as soon as site opened to get school holidays to France. Still available on campsite website but cost over £1000 for same week so I bet they don’t want to give it to us at sun holiday prices! I had my pick of holidays as went on as soon as it opened only the rubbish dates/places left now 😡 I have booked time off work and everything. I wonder how many people they have done this too!
