Lanzarote in February. Have you been ?

NotSoSureX · 21/01/2018 07:13

Due to various reasons, the only possible destination is Lanzarote (husband wouldn't do long hauls, only 9days of Holidays, would rather not go to cold destination as it's cold here 😁)
DD is 4 and DS is 14 months.
Going mid Feb. Family friendly hotel well rated by families on travel advice website. Weather expected to be 18 at best.

My question is, have you been in a similar position? Was it warm enough to let the kids play on the beach (not necessarily swim)? Are kids brands (snacks, nappies, wipes) available on the Spanish island?

Any feedback would be greatly helpful. Thanks

we've been fed at half term for several years. its been shorts and tshirt weather during the day and jean/fleece at night. if you have a pool it will need to be heated. ours spent a lot of time in the pool and they had to use sunoil or they burned. it did drizzle on one day and its always windy there.

yes definately warm enough to play on the beach. there would normally be people in swimming too - though sea was a bit too cold for me

your kids are younger than mine so i'm not sure what brands of nappies there were. there are lots of brands though and you can buy most of what you buy here. you may need to be slightly more flexible over which brand

NotSoSureX · 21/01/2018 13:09

Thank you. I am not fussed about brands but my eldest is :) it's now booked and paid for. It will have to do 😁

Yes, it's perfect for those ages. You won't be able to use unheated outdoor pools but the beach will be fine, and you'll need cream if it's sunny. I love the Canaries Smile

specialsubject · 21/01/2018 14:30

The canaries are off Africa and do not move about at different times of year. You will need regular applications of factor 50 , cloudy or not. Otherwise sunburn is inevitable.

Use the sea, it is warmer.

we've been to lanzarote 5 times i think - always for a week in the winter. one of the few places we regularly return to. its our favourite of the islands. its amazing leaving here in thick coats and getting off the plane and being warm - you really appreciate it. plus it often seems hotter than the temperatures they are quoting - i think its because they are from the shade.

which resort are you going to?

superram · 21/01/2018 14:43

You need a heated pool, sunscreen and there is a Lidl so nappies not an issue.

ferrier · 21/01/2018 14:47

Went to Gran Canaria in Feb and it wasn't warm enough on the beach most days without jumpers and it did rain. We might have been unlucky though.

AnyFucker · 21/01/2018 14:53

It's not the wilds of Borneo Hmm

I am off to Lanzarote for the 3rd time in a year next month so I shall look for the woman with the cat's bum face getting burned on the beach and determined to have a crap time

It'll have to do ....deary me

AnyFucker · 21/01/2018 15:54

look here

Awful, eh ?

rookiemere · 21/01/2018 16:00

We went in Feb a long time ago. It was pleasant not roasting, but the pool at the complex was unheated and was freezing. I'm sure it will be lovely.

LoniceraJaponica · 21/01/2018 16:16

We went at February half term one year and the temperature never got above 20 degrees. Most days it was 16 - 18 degrees and cloudy. The evenings were chilly. Luckily the apartment had a bath in the bathroom and heating so I could warm up nicely.

AnyFucker · 21/01/2018 16:20

Playa Blanca (south of the island) is 21deg and not a cloud in the sky today

NotSoSureX · 21/01/2018 20:19

Thanks everyone. So varying from pack an umbrella to a hope of a nice tan. I ll have to wait closer to the time for more accurate forecast before I pack. Might need to buy stuff for DS
😑

@dreamingofsun we booked Iberostar. Have you ever been ?

I am who I am. None of your buisness. Finding a more productive way of spending your time might do you some good. You sound like you need it.

See you there 😎

BrawneLamia · 21/01/2018 20:43

We went in December. It was a bit like a British summer - some days were sunny and warm enough to swim in the sea (just), others were grey and drizzly and we hired a car explored some volcanoes.

As I remember, nappies were quite expensive. Probably worth taking some if you can fit them in. We had shoved a pack in the bottom of the pushchair when we checked it in at the airport and got away with it.

AnyFucker · 21/01/2018 20:50

A British summer in the winter

What's not to like ?

We have snow here right now. Escaping that will be great. Put your walking shoes on and explore. If yo
u want to bathe in the sea, go in the actual summer. Although I was there in October 2017 during a 44deg calima and the sea was still fucking freezing.

NotSoSureX · 21/01/2018 20:51

Thanks @brawn. We have 322 kg of luggage allowance plus 410 hand luggage. Won't need that much for sure. I was thinking of packing enough nappies and wipes. Get that out of the way. They both drink cow milk. So I am somewhat sorted. Hoping for a couple of beach days and not much rain. Keeping my fingers crossed.

PS volcanos sound much fun. I need to start planning how to keep the troops occupied/happy😀

It's the Atlantic Ocean after all

NotSoSureX · 21/01/2018 21:00

@AnyFucker wasn't really hoping to swim per say. Just warm enough for the LOs to play on the beach while we sit and do nothing (too optimistic maybe ?!) But if we can then happy days. We are also hoping we have long walk. Nice warn weather would make it much more enjoyable.
Aiming for much warmer destinations in February means long haul flights. Not an option.

AnyFucker · 21/01/2018 21:02

You can do that. Just take an extra layer for if the sun goes in.

It's hot in the sun if you find a sheltered spot. What resort are you going to ?
