Lanzarote in February. Have you been ?

Due to various reasons, the only possible destination is Lanzarote (husband wouldn't do long hauls, only 9days of Holidays, would rather not go to cold destination as it's cold here 😁)
DD is 4 and DS is 14 months.
Going mid Feb. Family friendly hotel well rated by families on travel advice website. Weather expected to be 18 at best.

My question is, have you been in a similar position? Was it warm enough to let the kids play on the beach (not necessarily swim)? Are kids brands (snacks, nappies, wipes) available on the Spanish island?

Any feedback would be greatly helpful. Thanks

I am on a FB forum and someone who is there now says the temp indicator outside the pharmacy was 24deg today and the sun was shining. He has posted pics of the family bathing in the sea

17deg will be the temp at the airport in the shade.

cardeyscat · 22/01/2018 20:49

I was in playa Blanca last week. 23 degrees and perfect for the beach. Some days were VERY windy so not good to be on the sand. Variable weather but mainly gorgeous. Enjoy!

cardeyscat · 22/01/2018 20:51

Yes to a baby carrier for Timanfaya.

LoniceraJaponica · 22/01/2018 20:53

Temperature readings should always be taken in the shade. If the pharmacy is in the sun the thermometer will give a falsely high reading.

I went in Feb last year, my very keen DD swam every day in the unheated pool, I took a dip just to please her!! Weather was pleasant and we had nice bike rides and picnics on the beach. Definitely gave a nice feeling of a break from the English winter. Spring-like rather than summery.

Yika · 22/01/2018 21:09

And yes I would say it is much windier in the north. The south is more sheltered.

AnyFucker · 22/01/2018 23:19

It's some boats and some feet

DrudgeJedd · 22/01/2018 23:23

It's the harbour at Playa Blanca Grin

AnyFucker · 22/01/2018 23:33

Been there several times. I never saw those feet though.

MsGameandWatching · 23/01/2018 00:15

I've never been. I think I would like to having looked. Any recommendations please? Would like BnB, maybe AI, but not necessarily, maybe a hotel with small kitchen. We like to walk about a bit, shops, restaurants, we don't like to lie by the pool or beach all day long. Would be me and one teenager and one almost teenager. Thanks Smile

AnyFucker · 23/01/2018 00:20

I heard most of the hotels are nice. Have a look on Trip Advisor. There are lots of private villas which I prefer.

dreamingofsun · 23/01/2018 22:26

playa blanca is great. nice harbour and also a few beaches to choose from. plus you get to walk along the front. we went there twice i think. more recently to puerto del carmen - old town area. mainly because we couldnt get accommodation we wanted in playa blanca.

Mamaohana · 24/01/2018 19:16

Going back to what people were saying about temperatures, went there one year at Easter and phone app each day predicting 18-19 degrees so I thought it wouldn’t be very hot. It was sunny and baking hot each day, about 10 degrees more than the app forecast according to local thermometers. Also have spoken to people who have been to Tenerife in last few weeks, said weather lovely and warm so think you’d be very unlucky to get cool weather all week.
Ps Lanzarote is v v nice.

Dances - the resorts are very geared up to Brits and many of the bars and restaurants are run by Brits. I would say almost undoubtedly yes.

MsGameandWatching · 24/01/2018 21:52

Do you need to hire a car there if you were staying at Playa Blanca?

AnyFucker · 24/01/2018 23:02

It depends where in PB you are staying. Some of the accomodation esp villas are quite far out and the resort is spread very wide. I believe the paved promenade stretches for something like 8km. We always hite a car thpugh and stay a on the edges in a villa. You get a real swish one for your money and the island is very easy to explore. There are hotels and complexes with shared pools nearer the centre though and there is a very reliable and cheap circular bus. Taxis not too expensive either.

Joining the Playa Blanca in Lanzarote FB group is a good place to get info.
