Just back from holiday there, first time on any Balearic Island for all of us.

I just loved it.
I am now looking at holiday lets for the October school week Grin

How did I not know about this magical island??
Confused

I also found a wonderful property available to buy for a mere 5.8 million Euros Grin. V nice it is too. I may start playing the lottery….

Pm'ed you, room

DragonMamma · 19/07/2016 17:29

Another Majorca lover here too!

We go most years and can't face going elsewhere, as the year we ventured to the Algarve we found it lacking in comparison.

We have already booked the villa we had last year, for next year, which is PP/Alcudia way. We've also done Cala D'or, Cala Ferrera, Porto Colom etc.

PacificDogwod · 19/07/2016 17:31

Aw, birdstop, I read that differently tbh: I go away on holiday to a forrin country to see and experience some forrin stuff. I am more than happy to share that experience with other British/German/other nationalities are available, but do not enjoy vast 'samey' facilities that seem to aim at having everything like at home with added sunshine only. I'm with AF on that one, quite happy to be a snob in that respect.

That thread has now given me MORE options and the choice of three frigging islands… I do not do well with choice - somebody tell me where I should check out next!! Grin

Happy to be a snob

I don't need real fancy, pretentious places but I can't stand the Brits Abroad culture

Going into a carniceria and trying to ask for steaks for the bbq is my idea of fun Smile

Doowrah · 19/07/2016 18:09

Enjoying this thread..we are off to Cala d'Or for ten days in August, any must do's DragonMamma?

lurkingfromhome · 19/07/2016 18:12

Happy to be a snob in that respect too. I'm all about the immersive experience and like to pretend I am actually Spanish while in Spain (even thought my Spanish is a bit rubbish and I don't tan).

AF, be a love and share a little insider info about where to go in Ibiza.

WicksEnd · 19/07/2016 18:15

Looks like there'll be a few of us in PP in August. Should we have aibu to love PP t-shirts? Grin
I am so looking forward to going back, have been going since the kids were toddlers, now teens and they love it. They meet up with the same friends in the square and I feel happy letting them of the leash a bit without worrying.
We're very lucky to be doing two weeks in PP and a week in Soller and it cannot come soon enough.

I am typing in the sunshine on an iPad so if that doesn't make sense I apologise ^^

Mitfordhons · 19/07/2016 18:16

Ooh someone has offered my sister a week in their apartment in Alcudia, anyone know what it's like? Apparently the apartment overlooks a marina?

AnyFucker · 19/07/2016 18:38

Try googling Cala Tarida and Cala Vadella

20 mins drive from San Antonio but a world away. 20 mins drive from the wonderful Ibiza town which is the best place ever for people watching

West (sunset) coast

I am giving my secrets away !

If you need something a bit more English/family orientated I recommend Portinatx up in the north. Cala Xarraca beach is lovely. One beach restaurant. No All Inclusive bands in sight.

Ibiza is so small though if you hire a car you can get a flavour of it all

OodleDoodleBug · 19/07/2016 20:23

Menorca is my happy place. I haven't been back for almost 10 years now though. Hopefully taking my boys for their first visit next year 😊

bialystockandbloom · 19/07/2016 20:41

Oh I love Mallorca too, been going for nearly 20 years (family friends house, now we have use of another). Going for second time this year next week! I expect I sound like a twat Blush but I feel at home there now. We go to SE of the island, about an hour from Palma. Es Trenc is the most beautiful beach in the world. What a lovely thread Smile

MorrisZapp · 19/07/2016 20:45

Cala d'or here, we've been for the last three years! I have to say though, the one hour taxi transfer across the interior of the island is supremely uninspiring.

Is it just all the coastal bits everyone loves?

PacificDogwod · 22/07/2016 09:34

Totally unexpectedly, I will be able to take the October school week off Grin

Looking at villas in PP as we speak.
Will Mallorca in October we too coolish for an unheated pool??

I am so excited!

Ive never been to mallorca but fell in love with menorca last yeah when i went for the first time!

As pp have said, i never really understood people who went back to the same place/hotel year after year, but I get it now.

And Menorca is very easy to get to from scotland!! We are in scotland and got a direct flight with Thomas Cook from Glasgow!

LittleMissUpset · 22/07/2016 09:42

Ooh I love Mallorca and Menorca, I was very lucky from the age of about 9 until I was about 20 I got to go abroad with my parents most years to either one of those.

I love it so much, I also went once with my husband and once with DS1 when he was a baby.

I remember going to Palma and there being a tree in a park that smelt beautiful.

Isn't there a gin factory in Menorca in Mahon?

RJnomore1 · 22/07/2016 09:42

Oh I am so happy to find this thread! We are cruising from palma next year and I had a bit of a moment in the travel agent and booked a week in Sa Coma when we get back to port. It's about as far from magaluf as possible I think...

Wil I fall in love?

RJnomore1 · 22/07/2016 09:43

Ooh and it's scheduled cruise flight so no worries with the teens 😁

And while I'm at it euphemia what exactly is wrong with Troon? !

Tollygunge · 22/07/2016 09:43

Haven't read the thread, but Minorca is even more amazing. Beautiful and unspoilt.

PacificDogwod · 22/07/2016 09:44

RJ, you will!! Smile

Gin factory?
This is getting better and better…. Grin

OP posts:
LittleMissUpset · 22/07/2016 09:45

It can be a bit changeable at that time of year, just depends.

LittleMissUpset · 22/07/2016 09:47

You can sample the Gin too, meetup anyone Grin

www.lonelyplanet.com/spain/mao/sights/breweries-distilleries-wineries/xoriguer-gin-distillery

BarbaraofSeville · 22/07/2016 09:47

Yes LittleMiss there is the Xoriguer gin factory in Menorca. There may be more than one. Gin is very popular in Spain including the Balerices and when returning through Palma airport I always make a point of buying a litre of bargain priced Xoriguer.

This time I also got a litre of [[http://www.brandhouse.co.uk/work/case-study/larios Larios Mediterraen gin]] for a total of only 20 euro for both bottles.

bialystockandbloom - Have googled Es Trenc and it is indeed beautiful - we have missed that corner of the island, despite visiting a few resorts on the east coast - must add to the list for future visits.

RJnomore1 · 22/07/2016 09:48

We are visiting Mahon in the cruise

Gin factory you say?

suit2845321oie · 22/07/2016 09:52

My favourite place in the world. It's a big anniversary later this year and we were backwards and forwards planning on where to go until I said to DH, that I just want to go to Mallorca. We usually stay in Pollensa and drive around but this time we are kid free and are staying in Fornaltux, I literally cannot wait.

BarbaraofSeville · 22/07/2016 09:53

RJ Which cruise company are you going with and whats the duration?

DP and I have never cruised before and are toying with the idea and our idea 'starter cruise' would be about a week round Med or Canaries, but a cruise starting in Palma and visiting Menorca (and Ibiza?) would be perfect.
