Just back from holiday there, first time on any Balearic Island for all of us.

I just loved it.
I am now looking at holiday lets for the October school week Grin

How did I not know about this magical island??
Confused

I also found a wonderful property available to buy for a mere 5.8 million Euros Grin. V nice it is too. I may start playing the lottery….

I've just this morning booked a villa in Soller! We were supposed to be going back to Turkey (Dalyan) but I'm not sure how things will be there next summer and didn't want to take the risk of having to cancel at the last minute and ending up with no holiday at all.

DH loves Mallorca. I'm not as keen. We went to Cala Egos a few years ago and I hated it. Far too many English pubs/loud TexMex restaurants etc for me and I didn't like the little coves- they were full of rubbish floating around and didn't seem that clean.

I think Soller looks better. I'm figuring we can avoid the day trippers by hanging out at the pool during the day or doing our own day tripping elsewhere and then wander into town/take a taxi to the port in the evening. DS(14) is a really active teen and he's keen to do any combination of canyoning, coasteering, cliff jumping etc. DH likes boats so we'll hire one for a day and go cove hopping. DD will be happy with the pool. Grin

Ah pretty much all we do is culture and sightseeing which might explain the sulks...😂

Although I spent two bloody hours in a queue for Madame fucking Tussaud's today.

I love cruising, new city every day, so many churches and cathedrals!

We are staying all inclusive at one of the protur hotels I think the one with the water park. I'm going to try to take books and sit for a bit - I've never gone on holiday and just sat for a full day reading or sunbathing.

Oh god, this thread has got me going and now I'm googling Mallorca holidays for Oct half term Grin

How's Port d'Andratx?

PacificDogwod · 22/07/2016 19:17

Port d'Andratx is gorgeous, really really nice.
That's where I am retiring to when I win the lottery. I've got my eye on a 5.8 million Euro property. Comes with its own vineyard and infinity pool. You are all invited once I'm settled in.

I'm pleased to find this thread because we're off to Porto Cristo in a couple of weeks...our first family holiday to Mallorca!

Has anyone been to Porto Cristo?

Stevie77 · 22/07/2016 19:36

Thanks Pacific. Too nice to take a 7yo & a 2.5yo to?

Your dream property sounds awful Envy

Do you think we could get this thread moved to short haul? Lots of useful info on here.
My parents have HPB so we stay at Biniorella in Camp de Mar- lovely apartments at the top of the hill.
We've booked a week in Menorca as well next year- Viva Menorca in Calan Bosch. Looking forward to the beach and eating out at Cala Blanca and wandering round Cuitadella

ElsaMars · 23/07/2016 07:59

I've been to Cala d or twice this year on long weekends. Love the place. Considering Palma for next year.

Ilovenannyplum · 23/07/2016 08:05

We went to Sa Coma a few weeks ago and it was fabulous, we ventured into Cala Millor a few times and it was lovely there too.

I can admit to going to Magaluf a few years ago pre DS. I can say with confidence, I will never go back there again, unless your 18 and hellbent on getting plastered on €1 shots, I'd steer clear! Grin

youarenotkiddingme · 23/07/2016 08:12

I also fell in love with Mallorca last year Grin

Ds and I went o Alcudia and are off to Santa ponsa this year.

We don't do much exploring of the island or visit beaches (DS is autistic and cannot manage it) but I found the people so friendly and accommodating.

We did visit the port in Alcudia and the market and both were beautiful and despite being tourist areas didn't feel overly touristy.

sugarmonster64 · 23/07/2016 08:31

Porto Cristo is beautiful - a small town but beach is nice and it's good to wander round the small port there and people watch. There are some lovely beaches a bit further up the road either way if you have a car and manacor/sa coma are a short drive or bus ride away.

PacificDogwod · 23/07/2016 09:07

Chris, I will ask MNHQ to move it. I had been thinking about starting the thread in Shorthaul but was a bit worried I'd not get much of a response to my love fest Blush

Port D'A is where all the slebs buy their homes. Very famous people live round the bay.

We love it, it's brilliant with kids. The restaurants are so welcoming and friendly when we go out.

Been all over the Island, it's a great place.

The only problem we have is Scottish holidays and flights to Palma.

We were £1800 last year just for the flights, for 3 people.

Easyjet have it sewn up.

I'm going to Madrid instead this Oct holidays, £120 for 4 flights with Easyjet.

PacificDogwod · 23/07/2016 10:25

deutschland, Thomson's do good flights to Palma, v reasonably priced.

EasyJet do seem to have a bit of a monopoly from Scotland and they messed us around big time this time (see my separate thread about cancellation Hmm).
Flying with Thomson's in October Smile (from EDI).

cazzyg · 23/07/2016 10:28

We fly from Edinburgh with jet 2. Reasonable prices usually.

TeaPleaseBob · 23/07/2016 10:39

We're looking at Mallorca or Ibiza for a holiday at the start of October. Not been to Mallorca for years but loved it as a child. Looking to fly from prestwick with Ryanair as can get taxi/ train there and not worry about car parking which is nice.

Bit worried we might end up with rubbish weather though but couldn't get September annual leave so not much choice unfortunately.

RJnomore1 · 23/07/2016 11:01

Tea you must be really close to me. Tell me if you find decent flights!

(Is it you again btw?)

cazzyg · 23/07/2016 11:20

Been to Mallorca in October and the weather was fine. Warm enough for sun bathing. The pool was a little chilly at first.

Sea temps are better in October than in April/may.

Sunbeam18 · 23/07/2016 11:27

Oh I love it so much! We had a week in Port de Soller at the end of May and it was amazing. Been to Puerto Pollensa , Deia, Valdemossa, Palma too. My happy place!

grannyinwaiting · 23/07/2016 11:33

Glad to see that people like sa coma! Three weeks to go!!

allthemadmen · 23/07/2016 11:44

I think Soller looks better. I'm figuring we can avoid the day trippers by hanging out at the pool during the day or doing our own day tripping elsewhere and then wander into town/take a taxi to the port in the evening.

^^ porto or the town soller. either way its utterly lovely and lots less tacky than some of the other places mentioned.

sunbeam which of those places did you prefer?

allthemadmen · 23/07/2016 11:46

please dont move the thread, they die over there!!

PacificDogwod · 23/07/2016 15:06

I know there is less traffic in Shorthaul but here in Chat the thread will be deleted in 90 days.

We have only ever done camping or self-catering holidays - me growing up and us as a family, so I don't have any experience of the larger hotels and have never encountered the sun lounger-reserving battles Grin

Deia is glorious, but maybe more suited to a more grown-up holiday?? Although they have a little beach, down a rather steep street and along a (well maintained and v secure) cliff path, but we felt we really had to 'earn' our paddle Grin. The way up in 30+ degrees (at 7pm!!) in blistering sunshine was grim…

OP posts:
Seacrets · 23/07/2016 15:17

Pacific I went camping once. but we won't turn this into a campers v none campus thread Grin.
The beauty of larger hotels is that someone else cooks all the meals and DC make friends and leave you in peace. Also endless games of water polo or volleyball.
As mine got to teenagers we tried the dreaded AI and it worked for a while. Teenage boys loved the constant availability of food and fizzy drinks.
Now they are older and more civilised we have gone back to B&B at small family run hotels and lovely meals out at restaurants.
I may also have booked another cruise.
