Just back from holiday there, first time on any Balearic Island for all of us.

I just loved it.
I am now looking at holiday lets for the October school week Grin

How did I not know about this magical island??
Confused

I also found a wonderful property available to buy for a mere 5.8 million Euros Grin. V nice it is too. I may start playing the lottery….

We are going sa coma next month. We went to a horrible place called calas de Mallorca about 7 years ago which put me off big time, but have got this really cheap and what I have seen it looks ok. I am also a bit of a snob about the place but realise it is not just magaluf!

LittleMissUpset · 22/07/2016 10:00

I went to Calas de Mallorca years ago and it was lovely, what a shame it's changed so much, however it was 24 years ago Shock yikes didn't realize it was that long Grin

RJnomore1 · 22/07/2016 10:08

Just going with Thomson. We've been before with them and it was good. They're reasonably priced and very relaxed. If you have kids I've found them really good.

Seacrets · 22/07/2016 10:31

We did a "starter" Thomson cruise from Palma around the Med, followed by a week in Cala D'Or. We took teenage DC and it was a big hit. Not for cruise snobs though, Thomson is very, er, informal and British.
Though I quite liked Cala D'Or it is probably much too touristy for those on here who want the authentic Spanish experience.

grannyinwaiting · 22/07/2016 10:38

It was really grim I'm afraid !

Cheesymonster · 22/07/2016 10:41

Love Mallorca. We've been to Puerto Pollensa a few times and are going to Cala D'Or in September. The large square in Pollensa and in particular Boney's Bar is my favourite place in the world.

PacificDogwod · 22/07/2016 10:47

Thomson's are giving £250 per person discount just now.

I am looking at villas with pool for less than £300 per person Shock

Including flight and care hire - can that be right?!

Villas can often be quite good value if you can fill one. A disadvantage of being just a couple is that villa’s aren’t an affordable option for us (not really interested in trying to organise a group of friends holiday) but your £300 pp could be true? Is it in the school hols?

We went to Mallorca for 4 days/3 nights at the end of June and the cost of flights/car hire and hotel B&B was about £230 pp and we didn’t have the absolutely cheapest flight, hotel or car hire so it would have been possible to pay a bit less or extend to a week and be within that £300 pp ball park. I would be willing to bet that the car hire would be one of those with lots of ‘optional’ extras and possibly too small for a family with luggage and you would have to totally fill the villa, which might not be in the most ideal location, so maybe some on sofa beds in the living area that ideally wouldn't be used as beds?

LittleMissUpset · 22/07/2016 11:11

It's the end of season so sounds about right I think.

PacificDogwod · 22/07/2016 11:18

Yes, school holidays in Scotland.
There are 6 of us Grin, 8 is my parents join us.
I am looking at 3 and 4 bedroom villas with pool in Porta Pollenca.

Oooh, I am so excited Grin

PacificDogwod · 22/07/2016 11:19

I may or may not also be looking at Menorca… Wink

RJnomore1 · 22/07/2016 11:19

Yeah Thomson is ideal if you have a sulky teen and tween in tow 😁

My time is coming...

PacificDogwod · 22/07/2016 11:20

Yes, one teen, one tween and 2 littlies, both going on 25 Grin

I'm there right now. I've also fallen in love - particularly with Palma which will totally out me as I raved about it on Facebook yesterday.

petitpois55 · 22/07/2016 11:32

I haven't been for a few years, but this thread is making me wanting to go backSmile

PrimalLass · 22/07/2016 11:33

Last time I organised we went to Cadaques which was proper lovely, if anyone is looking for a mainland Spain option.

That's where I'll buy a holiday home if I ever win the lottery. We had an amazing three days there. The road over is a bit scary though.

GwendolynPost · 22/07/2016 12:09

We have a villa just outside Inca, I think Mallorca is quite underrated.
People assume it's all Shagaluf and stag holidays but most of the island is actually quite quiet and laid back.

The island is very popular with German holidaymakers and their schools go back in mid August so the beaches etc are far less busy towards the end of the month.

Cheesymonster · 22/07/2016 12:19

The inca market is excellent.

sugarmonster64 · 22/07/2016 12:21

sa coma is nice, very British and a lot of the hotels there have gone all inclusive so restaurants are quieter than normal. There's a lovely BBQ restaurant off the main road where the food is amazing! There's also a small water park at one of the protur hotels which is meant to be good but we've never been

There's a really long promenade linking sa coma to Cala bona through Cala millor which is a good walk

pacific do you know how much just the flights are for October? We're also looking but might end up flying from Newcastle as Scottish airports more expensive because it's holidays.

Stevie77 · 22/07/2016 12:42

It is one if the nicest islands. Parts of Ibiza are lovely too.

The weather by October half term is not do great, especially as this year half term is almost at the end of the month. Or at least, it is for us.

Seacrets · 22/07/2016 13:08

I once went in October and had a week of dull wet cloudy weather with rain. This left nothing to do in a tiny seaside resort so we hired a car and went all around the island finding much better places to stay on future visits.
One good thing about Cala D'Or is that it seems to have avoided the AI trend. This means the local restaurants thrive and there is a lively buzz about the place.
RJ actually teens not sulky but I was looking for something different. We have never done culture and sightseeing with DC but the cruise allowed us to do this bite size. They and we loved it. We did Barcelona, Sorrento / Herculaneum, Rome, and others followed by a week beach holiday.

tedmundo · 22/07/2016 13:21

We have been to Puerto pollensa for years and years. It is the most perfect holiday destination for us, before and after children. No nightclubs, just lovely bars and restaurants. Little Italy for a takeaway pizza, Formentor Store for a coffee and sandwich, an ice cream along the pine walk at 10pm .....

tedmundo · 22/07/2016 13:23

Oh and one year we stayed for a few days in Cala rajata on the east coast. It is a mainly German resort and much cheaper than Puerto pollensa. Gorgeous bay.
