I know there are several mnetters coming to Carvoeiro on holiday this summer, as I live here I thought I'd start a thread for any questions anyone might have?

It was fantastic Costa. Fireworks were compressive and the orchestra excellent. It was lovely to see couples dancing together. Even DC (13 and 12) enjoyed it

I purchased two dresses in a little shop when I was there a few weeks ago. I hesitated about buying a third and didnt. I have had lots of compliments on the dresses and love them so much. Am gutted i didn't buy the third. Hoping sales are slow and they still have them next year.

Hi both! The fireworks sounded impressive, but we just hared back to base to check on the animals, one of our dogs is really nervous - if I'd remembered they were on we'd have stayed at home!

Glad the entertainment in the square is proving popular, and the recommendations!! I always forget about mama Mia, haven't been for years, maybe we should go back! Jan's has extended its menu recently so we haven't tried their pizzas yet - all good recommends for anyone else reading the thread! There's only so much eating and drinking a girl can do (although I do try very hard at it!!)

We had take away pizzas from donatos in sesmarias last night, and took them round to some friends.

If you go to slide and splash, DH days get there early as there isn't a lot of shade, or you could probably take your own umbrellas

When you see the square as it is in summer, full of holidaymakers, live music, hair braiders, it's difficult to imagine it in winter - I have some video somewhere of the results of a storm at sea in January a couple of years ago, I'll see if I can find it, the while square was awash!

If you look at the wall of the wine shop which faces the sea, it's the side of the wall facing the chemist, you will see a marker where the water came up to in Nov 1987 or 1988 - the whole of the in and out roads and square used to flood regularly, now they've put the drains in the middle of the road, which helps, but it can still create very deep puddles!

that would be quite brill costa. Find it so hard to get a dress that's actually knee legnth over here. Topshop and the like are too short and these two dresses are the perfect legnth. I will dig around and see if I can find the receipts then I can tell you the name of the shop . I will send a pm when I find the receipt. Cheers.

Or a description of the shop, where it's near..... There's a reasonable sized clothes shop on the left as you go up Estrada do Farol called Aladdins (I think) was it there? Roughly opposite Jota Lita and A Galé and going towards Xico Zé and Lanterna Velha?

Another tip for the water parks, get the rubber rings if you can and keep them with you all day, as you can jump the queue on some of the rides if you've got one

You can take a picnic in, and have a look for any discount vouchers floating around, sometimes at supermarket checkouts - or see if the tickets are cheaper buying them in advance from an excursion type place

Well tonight is our last night in Cavoeiro and we move onto Cabanas tomorrow.

Thank you Costa for all your help and tips and to all those lucky mners who are here or are coming this summer - I will be watching this thread with envy

Dh and I came here about 15 years ago and it has lived up to our memories and more

I've just seen there's an Italian orchestra in the square tonight - it's all going on this year

If anyone is going to be here on the last weekend in August, that's the main Carvoeiro festa, lots of things happening, culminating in the Nossa Senhora procession down from the church and through the town complete with brass bands accompanying the statue of 'Our Lady'

Costa I'm looking on yr.com to check the weather for when we arrive next week. Its giving lots of clouds and some rain. I could cry. Is there any mention of this in the Portuguese forecasts yet?

I've seen forecasts showing the chance of thunderstorms Monday, but that's all, the rest of the week looks fine at the moment!

This doesn't look too bad

It certainly doesn't Costa. Thanks. Our last trip out was late April/early May and it rained most of the time. We spent a lot of time in the shopping centre in Portimao. I do not want a repeat of that

We visited Carvoeiro today Costa. Can't believe we haven't visited before as we have been a few times to this area. We are coming back for dinner at the weekend.
