I know there are several mnetters coming to Carvoeiro on holiday this summer, as I live here I thought I'd start a thread for any questions anyone might have?

O Stop can be a bit on the fawlty towers side, but just have another glass of wine and soak up the view!

Was pleasantly surprised to find this thread. We are booked to stay at rocha brava next summer. Could only get seven nights there Sad

So can anyone recommend a villa/apartment for another seven nights? We will have a car so can drive to another resort but are content to stay in carvoeiro too...

Oh - we are a family of five Smile

Costacoffeeplease · 31/07/2015 18:46

Ooh lots of places - monte dourado, Colina Verde, monte Carvoeiro would all be in walking distance of the village, or if you want to stay in the same area as rocha brava, have a look at vale de milho, pedra grande, golfemar

Thanks Costa - I will look those up. The Algarve seems to be filling up fast for 2016 Smile

Costacoffeeplease · 31/07/2015 19:14

I'm surprised that in the whole of rocha brava there isn't anywhere available for two weeks - or is it a villa with private pool?

I have to say, I've never had so many enquiries so early for the following year, and I've been renting apartments here for about 14 years!

Renting out!!

Brilliant, thanks Costa Smile. We're only there for a week so that's probably plenty to choose from! Good to know which places to avoid too.

I love the idea of fawlty towers on the algarve Grin

Costacoffeeplease · 31/07/2015 19:29
Grin

When I say pricier, you may not think so, as we're used to local places, but Maximes and Ele Ela are probably 30€ a head for two courses inc wine/water/coffee - especially with the favourable exchange rate at the moment, maybe UK visitors won't think that's too bad!

OTOH, we can spend an evening at Jomar, bread/cheese cover, main course (chicken/steak/pork/swordfish) wine, beers, coffee for about 25€ a couple Grin

Restaurant wise we love A Gale and Jotalita. I didn't know you rented out villas Costa.

Costacoffeeplease · 31/07/2015 20:42

Just a few apartments!

We are staying in a Holiday property bond apartment at Rocha Brava - but there's no more availability at RB for the following week.
I think it's because there are 5 of us. Plenty of appts for four!

Costacoffeeplease · 31/07/2015 20:58

Aah, that's probably why, HPB won't have as much availability as direct bookings

OP posts:
PingPongBat · 31/07/2015 21:02

hmm, 30 Euros a head is around £22, so that's considerably cheaper than some of the "push the boat out" places in Rome & Sorrento we visited last summer!

Costacoffeeplease · 31/07/2015 21:07

For us, that's a birthday or anniversary type place!!

Our push the boat out is 50€/head Smile

Can they not put you in a 2 bed with a sofabed or folding bed?

Am at Jomar for 2nd time since we arrived on Monday. Meal for 4 plus drinks has come in at €35 including drinks. Meal last night at was €70 and tonight was far superior. Last night we were up by Mirochoro..

Have had Portuguese steak tonight - fabulous!

Costacoffeeplease · 31/07/2015 22:04

Glad you've enjoyed it - we're often there on a Friday evening, but we're at home tonight as dh was home late and knackered!

Thank you for all the advice so far Costa. I am making notes on all the recommended restaurants Smile

We are still debating whether to hire a car or not for a few days. If we want to visit nearby beaches is it easy/advisable to hire taxis? Is there a bus service?

If we want to do day trips/excursions further afield, is there anyone we can organise this through or would we need to do it through our travel rep?

Costacoffeeplease · 01/08/2015 15:46

Yes, taxis are available and cheap, parking can be an issue both in Carvoeiro, and at some beaches in summer, so it might be a better option. There's a taxi rank outside smilers and colombos, near the Carvoeiro sol hotel, and the driver will give you a number to ring to get picked up again

There are buses, which will take you to Lagoa, from there you can get a bus virtually anywhere on the algarve, I'm not sure how often they run though!

There are several places you can book excursions in Carvoeiro, from the waterparks/Zoomarine/sightseeing/markets to full day trips to Lisbon and Seville. You can also hire a car locally, so could check out price and availability once you get here

Did anyone see the orchestra and fireworks in the square last night? I forgot about it and we had to rush home to make sure the cats and dogs were all ok!
