lizzy. buses are good in Gozo, we just liked the flexibility of a car. You could easily get around without one, but it can get hot is Gozo, waiting for buses with young children can be uncomfortable. Also the endless supply of water and juice that you have to buy is easier with a car. Where are you staying?

deepinthewoods · 28/04/2014 12:05

I love Rhodes- beautiful place,

42notTrendy · 28/04/2014 12:35

Oooo we're Gozo fans too! Been a few times (have friends in Malta). I would say a car makes life a lot easier. Love the quirky mini department store in Victoria, got a good little supermarket in the basement. Also Rikardo's in the citadel for lunch. Spent a very long lazy fairly boozey afternoon there years ago, eating Gozotian cheese and sun dried tomatoes, drinking the local wine. Happy memories. Smile
But also got absolutely savaged by mozzies once, take good quality repellent!
We won't be going this time, we're going to do touristy things on Malta this time as DS is now old enough to enjoy them.

deepinthewoods · 28/04/2014 12:41

42- I know that supermarket- is it called Kings? Next to the car park/football pitch. Lovely fish restaurants in Xlendi, Gozitan people are very warm and friendly. I can't wait to go back.

BuzzardBird · 28/04/2014 12:48

Oooo deep, where can you recommend in Rhodes? We are slowly visiting

the Greek Isles and don't like to end up in 'Benitsis' type resorts.

deepinthewoods · 28/04/2014 13:03

Pefkos and Lindos are very pretty, but can get quite busy. We stayed in an all inclusive hotel not far from Rhodes town when the kids were younger- maybe not your thimng, but we enjoyed it. Rhodes town is stunnning.

foxdongle · 28/04/2014 13:09

Lucyinthesky which festivals are you going to?
we have booked Splendour and the Sunday at Leeds- might do the full weekend next year.

I can't be bothered with flying anymore, so we mostly holiday in UK. We're off to Northumberland, a self-catering cottage near Beadnell. I'm really excited as I love castles and have heard the beaches are amazing even if the weather is not.

deepinthewoods · 28/04/2014 13:26

Nora- I hate flying too, but it's means to an end. I live in Scotland so going abroad is essential if we want guaranteed sunshine.

SteadyEddie · 28/04/2014 13:52

paulapantsdown thats where we are headed too. I cant wait.

Francagoestohollywood · 28/04/2014 14:00

We are going to spend the whole of August in Salina, one of the Aeolian islands, in Sicily

Bunbaker · 28/04/2014 14:08

Nora, we love Northumberland. OH is from there so we go there a lot. IMO Northumberland has some of the best beaches in England. There is loads to see and do even if the weather isn't great.

foxdongle · 28/04/2014 14:46

nora - Northumberland does have gorgeous beaches and when the weather is good it's just fab- we've friends who live there. I don't mind flying , but must admit our cruise goes from Southampton and cuts out the airport/flying hassles so looking forward to that.

Foxdongle - we did Oceana a couple of years back. I think it's the nicest of P&O's ships. It had a lovely atmosphere ,wasn't too big and yet we never felt like it was too busy. We had a lovely week on her with the kids. I hope you enjoy it!

Lizzylou · 28/04/2014 17:58

Deep, we are staying at Mgarr, seafront hotel. It was a bit of a quick decision before Dh changed his mind Grin , great reviews though.
So pleased that Gozo has so many fans, now to work on dh about the benefits of car hire.

42notTrendy · 28/04/2014 18:01

Deepinthewoods, no, it's called Arkadia! (We bought a trolley bag from there 2 years ago and it's still going strong!)
Love Xlendi. Ta'karolina is fab.

Northumberland is lovely. Agreed the beaches are amazing!

deepinthewoods · 28/04/2014 18:03

Ah, yes Arkadia, I remember- there is another supermarket called Kings in Victoria though. We stayed over on the West of the island, near the Azure window.

Spinaroo · 28/04/2014 18:07

nora we also love northumberland and beadnell beach is just lovely. Very jealous and we have been there recently- I honestly can't get enough of it.

deepinthewoods · 28/04/2014 18:09

Northumberland is lovely, but I live less than an hour's drive from these beaches, so prefer beaches in sunnier countries.

foxdongle · 28/04/2014 19:05

AngelsWSW - that's good to know thanks, am sure we will.
only 3weeks to go!
