Long weekend in a static caravan in North Wales. Long weekend in a static caravan in the Lakes. Long weekend in a tent in Devon. And a week in Scarborough in a flat!

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 28/04/2014 07:47

France in August. Week in a gite outside Paris to do Eifel Tower etc and Disneyland. Then a week in the Vendee on a campsite in a chalet for DS to do archery, canoeing etc.

DD's year 10 and doing science this summer. DH May half term off so we're doing a couple of nights in Cardiff to see the Dr Who Experience and other bits. That's that for May then I guess for years as no sooner will she have finished A Levels then DS will be gearing up to GCSE as big gap between them. We like to visit family in Germany at Easter but guess that might not be very sensible in future years either.

nowahousewife · 28/04/2014 07:49

DS16 is heading off by herself to NZ to stay with family for July/August. Gets back just in tome for GSCE results. So this will be the first time we've not holidayed together Sad. DH, DS14 and I are going to Japan in July for 2.5 weeks, really looking forward to it, should be v interesting.

Whole family including the dog going to New Forest for a week in Oct, kids might bring friends with them.

Groovee · 28/04/2014 07:51

A few days in Alton Towers in the summer holidays. Then a weekend in London for our wedding anniversary in October.

Bunbaker · 28/04/2014 07:52

I think I like the sound of Gozo deepinthewoods. Can you tell me more about it. We avoid busy places, all inclusive, kids clubs etc and like to enjoy the local food and culture. Would it suit us?

AngelsWithSilverWings · 28/04/2014 07:56

We went to a bargain Eurocamp caravan in Normandy at Easter and then we are doing another Eurocamp holiday in Duinrell in Holland at Whitsun. I'm really looking forward to that one as I think the kids are going to love it.

For the summer we are taking our tent to Croyde Bay in Devon ( following a recommendation on the mumsnet camping forum)

We were so lucky with the weather at Easter - hope our luck continues!

deepinthewoods · 28/04/2014 08:37

banbaker- Gozo is amazing, step off the boat and you step back 100 years in time. Sleepy place, yet amazing festivals all summer long, stunning archeological sites, the most famous being Gijantia en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C4%A0gantija 5000 year old goddess temples. Stunning landscape, lots to see, easy to drive around. Pick up a car at the airport, catch the ridiculously cheap car ferry over to Gozo.
We stayed here:
www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_Review-g190315-d670718-Reviews-Village_Ta_Sbejha-Gharb_Island_of_Gozo.html cheap, basic, very clean, so quiet you could hear a pin drop.
Victoria the main town is built around an ancient citadel, and lots of lovely little shops, restaurants, lacemaking, crafts etc,
If you are at all spiritual Gozo will blow you away.
I can't wait to return.

melliebobs · 28/04/2014 08:40

In October we are going to Gwithian in Cornwall again. We went last year when dd was 19 months n not walking and even having to cart her around everywhere we really enjoyed it. So figuring now she's walking she'll get a lot more out of it and well find it a bit easier too.

I really can't wait Grin

Bunbaker · 28/04/2014 08:40

It sounds perfect. That is just the sort of holiday we like. We are all sorted for this year, so maybe next year.

foxdongle · 28/04/2014 10:32

angels our dcs loved duinrell
nowahousewifemy dsis and family did a tour of Japan a couple of yrs ago-they absolutely loved it.

I went to Gozo years ago on a day trip from Malta it's so peaceful and beautiful isn't it?

A few people talking about dcs going without them for first time- that will be us in 4 or 5 years!

nowahousewife · 28/04/2014 10:43

fox is there anything they particularly would recommend? We always plan our own journey's and have booked 4 nights in Tokyo, 3 in Hekone, 4in Kyoto then three nights at a beach (can't remember the name) then back to Tokyo for a night. We've researched all the must see and do activities but first hand experience is always useful!

AngelsWithSilverWings · 28/04/2014 11:00

We toured Japan before the kids came along. Kyoto is beautiful but Hiroshima was the most memorable trip we did while there. I'd love to go back again one day.

foxdongle · 28/04/2014 11:04

hi nowahousewife I will ask and get back to you. they talked about it for weeks and weeks after - definitely made massive impact on them.
I remember they went on a bullet train and I know they couldn't see mount Fuji because it was too misty! other stuff I can only remember bits of so don't want to tell you wrong.

nowahousewife · 28/04/2014 11:10

angel I think we're planning a day trip to Hiroshima from Kyoto. DS is v keen to do that. Will definitely be getting bullet train, we did use one in China a couple of years ago and it's fascinating to watch the speed you are going (they had a speedometer thingy in the carriage) as it feels so smooth.

fox glad you dsis's family raved about it.

Lizzylou · 28/04/2014 11:13

Ooh, Deepinthewoods, we are going to Gozo May half term week, you have got me all excited now Grin
We are also going to mainland Greece in August to do watersports etc on a Neillson holiday.

lucyintheskywithdinos · 28/04/2014 11:19

Centreparcs in June, a festival in July, another festival in August, and a week at a home ed camp in August.

deepinthewoods · 28/04/2014 11:20

lizzylou I am jealous!! Gozo is one of the most amazing places I have ever visited. Are you hiring a car? So much to see on the island and driving around is easy and fun.

curiousgeorgie · 28/04/2014 11:25

2 weeks in Florida with our DD's (will turn 4 while there & 16 months) my brother, my parents and our friends Grin

I can't wait!

curiousgeorgie · 28/04/2014 11:27

Also some kind of remote UK cottage with some couple friends for a week & an Alton towers weekend... But Florida is the shining star on our horizon Grin

Lizzylou · 28/04/2014 11:31

I am not sure, Deep, we were told that buses were good, so were going to do that. Would a car be better? It is a "bonus" holiday and one that comes at the end of a very stressful period of work for DH. So must be cheapish and relaxing, but we do always like to explore.

WheresRyder · 28/04/2014 11:37

a week in Cornwall, Perranporth in may half term, then 10 days eurocamp in Picardy, France at the beginning of the summer holiday and 2.5 weeks in Orlando at the end of the summer holidays. A week in York for October half term, back to Yorkshire again for 4 days over Christmas.
That's a lot of holidays for us. Off to Dorset as well this bank holiday weekend. We've been very fortunate to do lots of city breaks/getaways already this year. Think I've just been organised rather than leave it all to the last minute to find everything booked and only ££££ stuff available.

I've already booked 2 short breaks for 2015, well I've paid the deposits.

WheresRyder · 28/04/2014 11:39

Lizzylou- my dad grew up in malta and we go frequently, Gozo is beautiful. Take a day trip/boat trip to comino if you can the waters are so clear, makes for a fab day snorkelling and sunbathing.

juneau · 28/04/2014 11:48

Five days in Paris during May half-term.
Two weeks in Italy at the end of August.

We have two boys, three and six, and they love holidays as much as their mama Grin

SteadyEddie · 28/04/2014 11:55

Rhodes for a week in August. Only 101 days left!

paulapantsdown · 28/04/2014 12:01

Back to beautiful Pefkos on Rhodes for 15 days - cannot wait!

Our friend, who is a single dad, is booked into the same resort for 9 days overlap with us and his 2 boys are the same age as ours. Its going to be fantastic.

Going to try to book a trip to Barcelona in the Oct half term too.
