To ask about Law at the university of York

DD got 7 9s and 3 8s at GCSE and got an Oxford offer for Law. She was predicted 4 A. She's won loads of national essay competitions and has generally built her identity around being a high flyer. Come results day - two As and two Bs and Oxford have rejected her. She's set to go to the University of York as her insurance choice but she's feeling really down about everything and is pessimistic about her future. In History she is two marks off the A and in Politics she's just one mark off an A so waiting for a review of marking but not expecting anything to change.

Please tell me positives about York. I'm stressing and so is she. She's feeling like her future is gone. I'm so upset for her. She's honestly such a clever and articulate young woman. She's saying her A Levels aren't good enough for Vac schemes and training contracts and she's not at all excited for uni.

Oxford will be there if she wants to do a postgraduate degree most students in Oxford are post grad

College have asked her to submit evidence of the new grade - keeping everything crossed now.

Great news about the grade but I think it’s shockingly bad how wrong marks can be. 10 marks is huge. The poor kid.

Nothing yet. DD sent the revised grade over at 5pm yesterday. She's not hopeful as she's still not met the German element of the offer but she has met the Law minimum offer and the college did say to send the grade over for review. I'm sure they will get back to her either way. I suspect she needs to protect herself from further disappointment.

No news. This has been really nerve racking. She has shown she's met the academic standard for Oxford Law so I'm crossing everything now.

but i wanted to jump on and say that this was me 30 years ago… I had an offer for Cambridge and spent the previous 8 months telling everyone I was going there and it fit well with my high flyer persona.
on results day I was crushed that I missed my offer by one grade, and was completely devastated. York was my insurance offer and I decided to go, despite never even visiting (we lived a long way away and money for visits was tight).

I had the very best time! I was 100% happier there than I would have been at Cambridge I feel - no imposter syndrome, the teaching was great, the small city and campus/college set up suited me very well, coming from a small private boarding school. I made lovely friends, did loads of music and met my now husband. They weren’t teaching Law when I was there, so I can’t comment on that - but they’re a decent Russell Group uni and I’m sure she’ll do very well there if she decides to go. Good luck to your DD!

Not me but she should realise that most who become lawyers assuming that is her path don’t go to Oxbridge so talk like her “future is gone” is completely silly.

Sorry to hear that Fatsnowflake. I haven’t commented previously on this thread, but have been rooting for your DD. Is it worth contacting them politely just in case this has been overlooked. I only suggest this as it’s been such a long time you’ve been waiting now.

Admissions did email on Friday saying it was with the tutors and saying they would be in touch with a decision as soon as possible and thank you for your patience. So I wonder if it just requires Law faculty sign off and maybe they are revising the original offer to remove the language element. I don't think they will have forgotten about her but I'll tell DD to email tomorrow if she still hasn't heard.

Yes I think her emailing tomorrow is very reasonable. You must be on pins waiting.
