Anybody off to Bristol? DD set her heart on Bristol after the open day. Thankfully got her place on Economics today. Seems v real now! Accommodation allocation happening next week apparently.

Yes DD also off to Bristol. She’s quite pragmatic regarding accommodation as reckons your shortlist means nothing and you get allocated anywhere. We shall see!

imip · 14/08/2026 09:10

Dd also off to Bristol to read econ! It was her insurance as she dropped one grade, but she knows others going and she seems happy now.

Same. DD knows it’s all just a lottery really and will just get on with whatever she gets.

DS is also planning to go to Bristol to read Maths. He seems to think the accommodation choices will come through on Monday.

MarieCurry · 15/08/2026 10:09

Hello and congrats to all our kids. DD is going to read maths as well and Bristol was her firm and backup at the same time, don’t ask!

TallagallaPenguin · 15/08/2026 11:36

Mine also off to Bristol, engineering. It’s a little disconcerting that there seems to be nothing to do / organise right now - his friends (couple also Bristol) and he also think accom comes through on Monday.

Anyone with prior Bristol experience know how this works? Will they just get told “this is your room”, or will there be any element of “time to get in the queue to choose your room from the options listed in a time limited slot”?

Looking forward to knowing if he’ll be in self catered as per plan, or catered, so he can figure out what pans he needs!

DD going to Bristol to study Geography, she's super excited. She'd already had to nominate her optional module and do form filling for fieldwork. The accommodation email is due on Monday, it is a "here's your room, take it or leave it", eek. You accept/reject it on the Bristol StarRez Accommodation Portal so worth making sure DC can still log in as the last time they would have accessed this would have been to specify their preferences a while ago.

Thanks, really helpful. It’s good to know it’s “take it or leave it” and not some complex queuing system, as he’ll be out and about on Monday and can likely deal with that then. Will get him to check the link too.

Hope your DD has a brilliant time with geog and fieldwork! Best bit of a course - best way to get to know your course mates!

SuburbanCrofter · 15/08/2026 15:09

Placemarking! DC super excited, it was their first choice. Fingers crossed everyone gets the accommodation they need.

Hillbilly · 15/08/2026 16:24

DS going to Bristol for Business Management. Slightly worried about the accommodation allocation as we’re on a tight budget. We put in a max amount on the application and his 3 preferred places were under this figure so let’s see. Apart from that, very excited!

Uniquery1 · 15/08/2026 16:29

Hello, DD is off to Bristol too - Politics and International Relations. It was her insurance, so can't apply for accommodation until the 20th - keeping everything crossed!

Hello checking in !
I know very little about Bristol DD is studying biology there .
It's one of the unis I didn't go and see so I am totally in the dark about accomodation etc.

Are there any facebook groups we should be joining ?

I have a feeling the catereed accmd.where the ones with less loos per group ?
DD needs a decent loo /per group. However she also can't cook and never shows any interest in it so I'm thinking catered better. I have no idea what she's gone for .

There is a ‘University of Bristol parents/carers’ group. Quite helpful! Most seem to be waiting to see with fingers crossed what accommodation they are allocated tomorrow, and hoping it’s not an uber expensive one!

Thank you ! I dont even know if my DD has done this properly and what she has requested 😅

Motleyii · Yesterday 11:33

There is a University of Bristol - Parents/Carers/Guardians
facebook group which has some useful info on.

FalteringFledgling · Yesterday 16:49

Omg those FB groups ,the accomodation stuff looks absoltuy dreadful ,someone said they are 45 mins away ??

I didn't realise it would be so awful tbh I knew places like warwick had a lot of issues ....

Forty five minutes away (if walking) includes the Stoke bishop halls, maybe that’s where they are?

Yes the catererd halls are in Stoke Bishop, it’s good, a great community and easy to meet people at mealtimes. There use to be a free bus service to the library area but the bus provider has started charging (this is not to do with the uni). The uni buildings are spread over the city, yes it’s 45 min walk to the central area but some dept / halls are then a distance from there. My dc was in Churchill in Stoke bishop but joined a gym in a complety different part of the city. My other dc was at Warwick which was completely different, everything on campus but 2/3rd year accommodation a 20/ 30 min bus ride away in Leam. The main difference though is cost, Bristol is very expensive for accommodation. My dc has had the time of their life and will be living near the central area when they go back but they think their faculty has moved to another part of the city from Sept.

My YP has had their accomodation offer. No e-mail as yet - we only saw it through entering the portal.
