Thank you @mumsneedwine .Where could she apply with SJT 2, 2770 Ucat, and eight 9s and three 8s at GCSE? She’s doing the IB and has been predicted the entry required grades for most unis.

Are you sure she scores 23 ? They are good stats.

Options include Sheffield, Southampton, UEA, Kings, Leicester, Liverpool, Birmingham? Newcastle, St George's.

Interim deciles will be out soon so will have a better idea if UCAT scores have shifted this year.

I applied and got offers last year from 4 unis including Sheffield and Birmingham I'd be cautious of the lower UCAT score but I think it will maybe be enough. Just not risk free@JuMcGoo

Hello everyone, I hope it’s ok to join this thread. Was on the medicine 2024 one last year and found it so helpful.

Our situation is that my DD had 3 offers in last year’s round but missed her grades. I’m hugely proud of her determination and resilience and she re-sat all 3 in June and now has 3 As is maths, biology and chemistry.

She did her UCAT this morning and got 3060 and Band 1 for SJT, which she’s really pleased with.

Her GCSEs were good - 2 x 8 & 8 x 9 and she’s spending this year working on a local mental health trust as part of the admin team liaising with families and carers.

But we need some help about where to apply to! I’m worried that she’ll stand no chance because of needing to re-sit. Her heart is still with BSMS and she’s wondering whether to call admissions for advice.

Other places she’s keen on are Southampton and Bristol. I think Bangor might be a good option and that she’d be better suited to a campus. (Offers last year from BSMS, Exeter and UEA).

Apologies for such a long post! All help/advice very welcome! And look forward to supporting each other through this tricky journey. Many thanks!

Apologies, that timeline is wrong!! She had 3 offers for 2023 start but didn’t get the grades so went back to college in sep 23 and re-sat a levels in June 24. Now has grades in hand + good UCAT score and is applying for 25 entry. Thought it looked wrong as I wrote it. 🤦‍♀️ No idea where that time has gone!!

W0tnow · 06/09/2024 06:37

@Fingersalwayscrossed UCAT, GCSE and predicted A level’s exactly the same as my daughter. We had 4 x offers at St George’s, QMUL, UEA and Exeter.

She’d have absolutely applied to BSMS but last year it was still running the BMAT.

@justjuggling I'm still lurking on the Medicine threads (I was also on the 2023 thread and remember you). Just wanted to say I had a bit of a tear in my eye reading your update - so thrilled for your DD smashing her resits and UCAT (wow!) - absolutely amazing. Can see why you're very proud (I would be too). Wishing her all the best for this cycle.

Hello @Africa2go , I remember you too! Thank you for your kind post. Still a way to go for my DD so fingers crossed! Hope your DC is getting on well?

Hi All, When do we expect the UCAT cut offs and calculators for entry to be updated for 2025 applicants (this years Year 13)

KielderWater · 06/09/2024 16:35

I expect this year’s UCAT cut-offs will be decided by the universities only once they have all the applications in.

SoTiredNeedHoliday · 06/09/2024 17:08

HI All, what does the comment "There is no fixed threshold score to be selected for interview." Mean on the Notts entry requirements?

www.nottingham.ac.uk/medicine/study-with-us/undergraduate/undergraduate-medicine/undergraduate-selection-process.aspx#Scoring

mumsneedwine · 06/09/2024 17:53

Means they don't have a fixed UCAT as they score.
No one will know the cuts off for 2025 entry until after the application process is finished (offers given out and accepted). Unis can only decide their cut off when they know who applies - eg. top 900 get an interview.

SoTiredNeedHoliday · 06/09/2024 18:07

Thanks @mumsneedwine that is helpful. My DD wants to apply there as everything other than her UCAT is great but I wonder if it is a wasted application as her UCAT is lower than ideal

mumsneedwine · 06/09/2024 18:09

@SoTiredNeedHoliday score her GCSEs and UCAT. Normally needs SJT 1. Anything around 32 points worth a try.

SoTiredNeedHoliday · 06/09/2024 18:09

is there a calculator for Hull York? I can see that points are allocated but I can't see how the points are given out.....Maybe I need new glasses?🙄

I think it's out of 152 for Notts isn't it @mumsneedwine? I think the cut off was high 120s last year?

mumsneedwine · 06/09/2024 21:47

@Africa2go was 130 last year as far as I can tell. Normally around that range.

Midnight001 · 07/09/2024 08:04

Hi, does anyone know anything about Queens Uni Belfast?. There’s an Open Day there today but unfortunately I found out a bit too late.

@mumsneedwine my DD is at 119 so probably not worth putting it down ?

mumsneedwine · 07/09/2024 08:33

@SoTiredNeedHoliday if she absolutely loves it then it could be worth a punt. No one knows what cut offs will be this year. But it's risky.

mumsneedwine · 07/09/2024 08:36

@Midnight001 fantastic course, lovely city. They score GCSEs so need to be pretty perfect.

Ib1234567 · 07/09/2024 08:53

For Nottingham , anyone knows the interview to offer ratio?

Midnight001 · 07/09/2024 10:22

@mumsneedwine - thanks - really appreciate your help

SoTiredNeedHoliday · 07/09/2024 10:55

I was just looking at Manchester and my DD won't make the UCAT threshold based on previous years but for the 6 year course she will. Her GCAE's and A level predictions are all suitable for the 5 Year course, its just the UCAT that let her down - is the 6 year course meant for students struggling in the A levels or should she look at this as a possible entry path?

There are very little places for the six year course.

What ucat did she get and we can perhaps advise you where to apply strategically?

Just checked. There are only 20 places
