thanks @Thefatbutteredpig she received 2580 in ucat.

Any hints of where to look welcome. WE are just reviewing every school 1 by 1

Africa2go · 07/09/2024 11:26

@Midnight001 my daughter had an offer for QUB. We loved it - the uni is great, the city is beautiful, everyone was so friendly, The Elms accommodation was fab, very cheap compared to mainland unis. Bumped into someone this week who has just finished her 1st year (not medicine though) and she absolutely loves it (we're 10 mins from the airport here so travel is v easy).

@Ib1234567 the info for interview to offer ratios for Notts is a bit unreliable - the FOI information I've seen (albeit for 2023) says they interviewed 3000+ and made 600 or so offers - that interview number was actually more than the number of applications they'd received. When I queried this, they insisted it was correct (very much doubt it). On those stats, the ratio was less than 20%.

What sjt did she get?

Lincoln might play ball if good gcses and sjt1. Their scoring system is on their www.

Any contextual indicators?

attainment 8 grade for her school? Check on gov.uk

My dd got similar scores last year. She interviewed for the 6y at Bristol, uea, plymouth and Keele.

Have a look and see if you qualify. You could always check out hyms, leics, Southampton y6 courses and see if you would qualify.

Else, maybe Plymouth, UEA ( their Freedom of Info requests for ucat scores are on their website). Have you looked at KMMS who publicise their ucat cut off , Keele and Sunderland who dont use the Ucat?

Bangor was in clearing this year.

Else maybe some of the ex BMAT unis may be worth a punt

JuMcGoo · 07/09/2024 11:46

@Africa2go please could you tell me what your daughter’s UCAT and SJT was if you don’t mind?

@Ib1234567 Nottingham interview 900 and make 300 offers.

mumsneedwine · 07/09/2024 13:59

I was a bit out for last year. 1248 interviews and 542 offers. 44% chance. As nis on line they can interview more.

mumsneedwine · 07/09/2024 14:02

300 places. It's a big medical school.

Does anyone know if Notts uses ucat for offer selection after selection for interview? Eg if get elite athlete fast track to interview, would a lower ucat still work against her (though she did get sjt 1 and scores 130 on the Notts / Lincoln system) .. we applied today but it’s a bit of a long shot. Trying to convince her about Bangor!! Looks lovely to me..

islaoo · 07/09/2024 18:32

Applied for elite athlete programme that is

london26 · 07/09/2024 19:45

Does anyone have any idea of Newcastles UCAT threshold since Ive heard they are changing the scoring system.
Thank you

The scoring system is detailed on their website. I believe its 50% ucat, 50% interview performance. As this is the first year using this scoring system, no one can predict what the ucat threshold will be at this stage

Historical thresholds are on their website. I want to say around 2820 but do check.

Its known as one of the higher Ucat universities. It was Newcastle uni that coined the Ucat test.

I think its just on interview performance.

Hello everyone, I hope it’s ok to join this thread. Was on the medicine 2024 one last year and found it so helpful.

Our situation is that my DD had 3 offers in last year’s round but missed her grades. I’m hugely proud of her determination and resilience and she re-sat all 3 in June and now has 3 As is maths, biology and chemistry.

She did her UCAT this morning and got 3060 and Band 1 for SJT, which she’s really pleased with.

Her GCSEs were good - 2 x 8 & 8 x 9 and she’s spending this year working on a local mental health trust as part of the admin team liaising with families and carers.

But we need some help about where to apply to! I’m worried that she’ll stand no chance because of needing to re-sit. Her heart is still with BSMS and she’s wondering whether to call admissions for advice.

Other places she’s keen on are Southampton and Bristol. I think Bangor might be a good option and that she’d be better suited to a campus. (Offers last year from BSMS, Exeter and UEA).

Apologies for such a long post! All help/advice very welcome! And look forward to supporting each other through this tricky journey. Many thanks!

My DD in this situation - three offers for 2024 missed grades now resitting and reapplying
there will be lots of options but my advice ( as we have just done ) is trawl through each of the med school entrance requirements to see if they take resits and if so what they want. My DD has been told she would need at least one A star as a resit. Off the top of my head I think HYMS and Sheffield would love that UCAT and accept 3 A at resit. Newcastle too. But email the admissions departments and get exact answer before she applies. Good luck xx

ipredictariot5 · 08/09/2024 21:42

@justjuggling definitely call BSMS too. I found all the admissions officers sent back helpful answers and a definite yes/no

justjuggling · 08/09/2024 22:02

Thank you @ipredictariot5, that’s helpful. A job for my DD this week I think! Wishing your DD lots of luck too.

Justlikingit · 09/09/2024 15:15

Does anyone know how SGUL and KMMS score post interviews?

mumsneedwine · 09/09/2024 17:58

@Justlikingit they score each section and highest get an offer. Only a few yes UCAT as well.

Justlikingit · 09/09/2024 18:42

@mumsneedwine thank you.

Hello,
Thank you for all the contributions; please advise on the following:

My daughter has been predicted A*AA (Bio, Chem, Maths) with a UCAT of 2710, Band 2. She attends Grammar School (GCSEs 9998888888) and postcode is IMD decile 2, which qualifies for contextual applications at some Unis, not others.
Which Unis would she have a better chance at applying to? I've read through the threads but am quite confused; would appreciate some advice.
Thank you!

Go for GCSE heavy med schools, when I applied 9 and 8 were pretty much equal I don't know about anymore but you can check online yourself. The UCAT is okay but slightly low for a lot of unis unfortunately. With the contextual you may get a lower cutoff, if just postcode then won't he contextual I dont think, all they do is give a 1 grade reduction in my experience. But if you are contextual at some schools see what benefits it will give and if they are good apply to them.

maybemedmum · 10/09/2024 11:45

Hi @runningonchocolate, I think Leicester, Birmingham, QUB, Leeds and Kings are some of the ones who value good GCSEs. Also Newcastle this year is 50% academic and 50% UCAT so probably worth a look. There are probably others too - she should have quite a few options with those stats I think.

Here, DD has pretty much decided on Leeds, Oxford, Manchester and Newcastle and is finalising her PS (I think she's applying to some of the very few who might actually use it!). I'm really glad she's dropped the idea of applying to Cardiff, which felt unnecessarily risky to me - especially with Oxford as a bit of an unknown quantity with UCAT. And time to get back to focusing on Y13 and getting the grades!
