Thanks for the helpful advice @Sybill and it’s encouraging your DD had offers in both. If my DD gets an offer I might ask to get in touch to find out what Leicester’s like. Thanks

First interview on Wednesday - waved DS off this morning and he’s staying with my brother overnight then driving the rest of the way to Norwich on Wednesday. I’m nervous, he seems totally chilled.

Please dont worry. My daugther had an interview at UEA and she said everyone was nice and she did not feel intimidatori. Good luck!

Miloarmadillo2 · 10/12/2024 12:23

@Lurea thank you!

Good Luck.

Let us know how it goes.

DD just got an interview invitation from Nottingham, her 2nd one.
She is so excited and so am I, TBH.
Now the interview nerves are setting in. She has one this week.

Africa2go · 10/12/2024 15:59

@Nousernamefree the interview to offer stats are usually within the FOI responses from unis on the What Do They Know website. Its quite time consuming and some are not quite as upto date as others but its really interesting - some (one or two) are very high 80%+, most in the 40-60% range, some as low as 20%+.

KielderWater · 10/12/2024 16:02

some as low as 20%+.

Give how much resources must be committed to interview five times as many candidates as you are going to give offers to, I would have thought they would look for a way to change this.

Optimum19 · 10/12/2024 18:53

Maybe they feel it's fair to give as many students as possible a chance to impress.
Hard to know what's the best way to get the best students.
Just wish some of them would hurry up...

maybemedmum · 11/12/2024 11:05

Hope the interviews this week go well. And hope the unis that haven't sent them out yet do so soon!

DD loved Newcastle and seems undaunted by the journey (took 11 hours to get home in Storm Darragh). She couldn't manage anything more positive than 'not disastrous' about the interview itself, so we will wait and see.

Optimum19 · 11/12/2024 12:24

Best of luck to those with interviews this week, especially anyone going to QUB. My DD's friend had one for dentistry there yesterday. She said she was so nervous until she went in and the other students were so supportive & they calmed her down & she feels she gave it her best shot.
Just hope the medicine candidates come out saying the same thing.

Bless!!! That’s was quite the journey for her.
Wishing her all the best.

Hi all. Lurking here for a while. Just wanted to join the chat if I may . DD had her online interview for Nottingham and Lincoln today.
I was more nervous than her if truth be told.
She said she was quite pleased about how it went. 🤞

ipredictariot5 · 11/12/2024 21:26

My DD has had Sheffield and Manchester interviews. Positive about both though Manchester way more friendly
has anyone DC heard from Bristol? She is on hold with UCAT 2970 which I think might be borderline given their high cut off l

ipredictariot5 · 11/12/2024 21:29

Best of luck to everyone else’s DCs. It’s a lot to go through. My DS who is also in year 13 has put in a v cheeky application to Oxford for computing without having the right A levels and he’s got three interviews next week - the content of which makes medicine seem v relaxed. But I have no clue about the subject so can’t stress on his behalf as I have no energy left

Optimum19 · 11/12/2024 21:35

That's great the interviews went well. Hopefully the trend will continue. Best wishes to all.

Miloarmadillo2 · 12/12/2024 07:14

DSS was happy with how UEA interview went and has taught his cousin to play poker so that’s a result 🙄I’m sure my brother will be thrilled. They said they will not issue offers until March so will just have to try and forget about it for a few months.

This made me LOL 😂!! He killed 2 birds with one stone. That was his unwinding session after his interview ( I’m assuming the poker lesson was after his interview 😳).
Wishing him the very best DD’s friend also had UEA interview yesterday, she said they were very nice and it seems to have gone well

Wow, he must’ve impressed them. All the best to me, it shows resilience and may be an interesting topic for the interviews.
Best wishes for his interviews

Justlikingit · 12/12/2024 07:34

Wishing everyone who has had their interviews and those still waiting all the best. It’s daunting as we’ve all been saying. Waiting for interview invitations, slowly veering into waiting for interviews’ outcomes. Then ot will be the exam results, It goes on…
Good they’ve got mocks coming, to keep them busy for now.

Honeylemonandginger · 12/12/2024 08:39

Good luck to all those with interviews coming up!

maybemedmum · 12/12/2024 10:25

Wow @ipredictariot5 - don't envy you the Oxbridge and medicine double header. (It struck a chord particularly as I have twins who will be applying at the same time in a couple of years - neither likely to choose medicine, thank goodness!)

Glad the interviews seem to be going well so far. DD has Oxford next week and then a break for Christmas. Her sister has covid at the moment, so trying to keep them apart so she stays well for the interview.

DD is at UEA. Loves it. Its a little gem of a place. The MedSoc is fabulous, tgeres always something going on.

They said March last year for offers but it was more like mid Feb when the offers came out.

Good Luck

Optimum19 · 12/12/2024 11:22

My dad taught us all to play poker at an early age. He said he learned to play before he went to school and that's how he learned his basic maths skills. He ended up a maths teacher. So you never know, your brother might thank you one day...lol
