Plus to get extra time for the UCAT you already had to supply evidence to UCAT admin team anyway.

Exactly! I may ask this question too when I contact them. if i find out anything of use, I shall share here.

We visited Plymouth yesterday. Mixed bag view from DD who liked the med school but was less keen on the city and the size of the campus (she said it felt very small).

SlenderRations · 30/09/2024 23:06

Do any old hands have a sense of when the final UCAT results are likely to drop?

mumsneedwine · 01/10/2024 06:01

Today at some point

CopingHagen · 01/10/2024 16:38

UCAT final scores are up

Band 2

Band 3

Quite a drop on band 1 SJ from last year.

Optimum19 · 01/10/2024 16:51

Significant some unis exclude over 50% of prospective applicants on SJT bands alone

Do many/any only take Band 1?

ItsYourMoneyRalf · 01/10/2024 17:04

I'm not aware of any that cut-off below band 1. Some require band 1-3 or give extra points for band 1.

islaoo · 01/10/2024 17:20

there are also a LOT more potential applicants this year for only a small number of additional med school places. Quite stressful!

On the SJT basis, which is DD’s one ucat strength, is Lancaster a possible safer bet than Plymouth with SJT band 1 and 2670 cognitive. Plymouth don’t look at SJT at all so you could have B4 but high cognitive - whereas Lancaster says they expect to select from B1-3.

Plymouth - it’s that year (2023) with 2680 that concerns me. Last year the stats look odd. Although I found anecdotal evidence on tsr of a non contextual applicant with 2500 ish getting an invite for interview.

Tbh nothing is looking like a safe bet for interview this year with ucat thresholds this high so I guess it’s just a praying for the best scenario whilst being realistic about resitting ucat next year. Ugh ..

KielderWater · 01/10/2024 17:29

I thought that then considered again and realised not necessarily as many more as at first glance. Nearly everyone achieving under 2140 (3,790) are unlikely to apply, and many in the next decile too will think again. Some will swithering about medicine anyway and decide against. And a good chunk will be dentistry applicants.

Optimum19 · 01/10/2024 17:34

No - but bands 3 and 4 add up to more than 50% and some reject these

mumsneedwine · 01/10/2024 18:25

UCAT also sat by dentists. Lots more applying for that these days.

KielderWater · 01/10/2024 22:29

For the last few years:

year UCAT Medicine applicants
2024 37,913
2023 35,625 => 24,150
2022 36,374 => 26,820
2021 37,230 => 29,710
2020 34,153 => 28,690

ipredictariot5 · 01/10/2024 22:40

Does anyone know if Bristol make their normal 3 A offer to applicants who are resitting A levels?
My DD has increased her UCAT from 2760 last year to 2970 this year so can apply this time
I think Sheffield keep it as a standard AAA offer but everywhere else seems to want one or two A stars

Optimum19 · 01/10/2024 22:48

So possibly about 30k will apply this year. And for how many places?

cosygingerkitten · 01/10/2024 23:29

Hi my interpretation from this government link is that there are 7500 medical school places in England

www.gov.uk/government/news/350-extra-medical-school-places-allocated-in-nhs-training-boost

For Scotland there ought to be 1417 for this year 2024

www.sfc.ac.uk/publications/university-intake-targets-for-medicine-in-ay-2024-25/

Sorry I don't have links for Wales and NI

KielderWater · 01/10/2024 23:31

Glad you say ‘my interpretation’ because I read that and couldn’t quite be sure how many there were. All I could be relatively sure of was there will be 350 more, though more than when is also unclear.

Unexpecteddrivinginstructor · 02/10/2024 06:29

From memory 7500 was the number being offered for 2023 starts, so 2024 would be 7705, 2025 with an extra 350 will be 8053, some of those places will be graduate only though such as Surrey. Definitely on track for 15000 in 2030.

Australia, New Zealand and Canada will be pleased with all their new doctors.

Hi my daughter is considering Leeds but we cannot find any information on how they are scoring GCSEs and lowest UCAT invited for interviews last year. I would appreciate any information thanks

I am not sure anyone knows, sadly

Lurea · 02/10/2024 15:10

I am sorry for another question. Any idea why the lowest total application score and UCAt are much lower in 2024 compare to 22&23?
