University offers coming in?

Just for nosiness and due to excitement about DS’s application going in, wondered if we could have a thread with people sharing offers as they are received, during this early phase.

Has anyone had an offer yet? Who will be first?

And totally realise that most won’t have applied yet and won’t do so for months and that’s absolutely fine and more normal.

Tbf @WombatChocolate , when people say things like "Durham tend to process contextuals and overseas applications first" this means getting offers early as in before Christmas, instead of mid spring.

Headingto18 · 18/10/2023 10:29

DC got an email from Durham yesterday re scholarships - the closing date is end January so i guess they may well have apply before knowing if they have an offer

mondaytosunday · 18/10/2023 10:37

Wouldn't we all like to know @WombatChocolate! My daughter, with three A stars plus A star EPQ in hand, has applied to Cambridge, Bath and Durham so far, and will add at least one more. She'll get an interview at Cambridge but not hear of an offer til January, Durham we all know likes to keep people hanging, Bath I believe starts offering late November. She's still nervous of not getting any offers though, even if her Bath course 'only' requires ABB.
I know I said this upthread - Exeter says 'if you have the grades you're in', and knowing their process and getting early offers is gratifying, even if it feels like you are a number and not an individual they value for something more than just a few grades (they also said they don't generally look at your PS).
The advantage my daughter has is offers will be unconditional and therefore no stressing for months about whether she'll get the required grades - so much disappointment last cycle. So why oh why is the system of predicted grades continued? Instead of 'I got accepted/rejected', the 'I got an offer but...' must be agonising. This is no small reason why my daughter is choosing Sociology and keen to look at how to improve the educational system to make it fairer and more accessible, particularly to those at the margins of society.

DC received a Manchester offer in yesterday 🥳🥰

Not all Durham offers are late. Just to give a different perspective my dd (home applicant and non contextual) applied some time in November (so after early entry) and was offered in January. So it doesn’t necessarily mean hanging on until the bitter end.

mondaytosunday · 18/10/2023 18:11

@KittyMcKitty and @Revengeofthepangolins that would be nice! DD is hoping Christmas will be chilled with at least one offer obtained - two would be a good Christmas indeed! Thinking of adding Glasgow (for a mad minute thought of flying up there for open day this Saturday until I saw the price of air fares and remembered I had four pets) and Surrey.

mondaytosunday · 18/10/2023 18:13

That is if PQAs is lumped in with contextuals and internationals...

KittyMcKitty · 18/10/2023 18:19

@mondaytosunday for sociology I would really recommend York it’s a great Dept. (Dd applied to York, Sheffield, Birmingham, Lancaster and Durham - York offered in 24 hrs and Durham was the last in Jan - all others pre xmas).

Wolvesart · 18/10/2023 18:35

Early applicant DC has had contact from Durham but not offer yet

mondaytosunday · 18/10/2023 19:22

Yea acknowledgements only from Durham and Bath.

WombatChocolate · 18/10/2023 21:43

DS got an offer from Nottingham tonight. He was really pleased. That’s his second offer - great to get them before half term. Might now be a long wait for others, but so nice to have something in the bag.

Wombatchocolate that's great news.
We got an offer from Sheffield yesterday, everyone in the house was delighted to get the first offer, such a relief 😊

EleanorSidgwick · 19/10/2023 07:40

And first offer here too, from Nottingham

PandaPacer · 19/10/2023 07:44

DS sat TMUA yesterday too. He said paper 1 was OK, but he made quite a few educated guesses on paper 2.

Well done to everyone getting offers in. It's such a mental boost to the whole household in the middle of the teenage uni angst!

TheOnlyMrsW · 19/10/2023 08:51

Great news for everyone getting offers in already, DD is very frustrated as her application is ready but still waiting for school to finish her reference. She's hearing about friends who were early application getting offers already and is worried that she's getting left behind..........
@PandaPacer some of DD's friends sat TMUA yesterday and apparently paper 2 was horrendous - had them in tears! Also B-MAT was very hard - so glad the DD opted not to do anything so stressful

Makingplansfor2029 · 19/10/2023 11:19

School have submitted the form so now waiting on offers. Anyone had anything for psychology yet? A Star A star A predictions and applying to Bristol A * AA
2 x AAA and 2 x AAB not eligible for anything contextual so hoping for offers soonish

BiancaBlank · 19/10/2023 15:11

Another one with a York offer here (history), about a week after submission. DD3 mega pleased and excited even though York was probably her fifth choice. Getting an offer suddenly makes it all seem so much more real!

Livinghappy · 19/10/2023 15:55

@yogiannie Lovely feeling to have an offer! I haven't heard of others for Manchester yet, what subject?

Bristol, York, Royal Holloway, Nottingham seem to be leading the pack on offers

yogiannie · 19/10/2023 15:58

Manchester offer for Maths and computer science - so great to have one!

lifeturnsonadime · 19/10/2023 16:05

My nephew has an offer from Manchester too (ppe).

Birmingham have also made offers.

RockaLock · 19/10/2023 16:08

DS1 has applied for Cambridge (not optimistic after yesterday's NSAA Sad) Bath, Durham, Imperial and Sheffield.

Has got an offer from Sheffield already (MPhys) but by the sounds of things it'll be a wait for Bath & Durham. And Imperial.

Jaxx · 19/10/2023 17:07

My son got his first offer today from Leeds - 2 weeks after submission. It is very much his 5th choice, but it is still great to have one.

Revengeofthepangolins · 19/10/2023 17:13

So cool to hear of these coming in. I had no idea it happened quite so early.

ShanghaiDiva · 19/10/2023 20:01

Great to see offers coming in. Nothing for dd yet, but offers from Bristol, York and Plymouth for her friends.

UniDaysAcoming · 19/10/2023 20:15

DS tells me ALL his friends have got offers now! I'll take that with a pince of salt...
He's got a Hold from Bristol. Any idea what that means?
