Monkey2001 · 22/11/2022 15:36

@medParent congratulations on interview. Do you know which dates she was offered? We are hoping not to get invited until January is offered.

@Monkey2001 She is offered 15th 16th Dec and 5th Jan

Monkey2001 · 22/11/2022 17:10

@UnclearNuclear there are ways round it, but it is a complication we don't want! DS won't fly unless he absolutely has to on environmental grounds. He is paying for true-rate carbon offset for his holiday in the summer, don't think he would fly within the UK. I an sure there are alternatives, just far from ideal!

Lottsbiffandsmudge · 22/11/2022 17:14

I am so glad Exeter is online for this very reason. I can drive DS to Sheffield (and Cambs/ Birmingham if gets any joy there) but Exeter is a nightmare.
It's so tough with threatened rail strikes.

Pip4764 · 22/11/2022 18:15

After someone’s recollection of their 9 hour drive to Sheffield in a blizzard and the current train strikes, we are driving to our interviews, but have fingers and toes crossed 😂!!

Cratos · 22/11/2022 18:32

My DS received an interview offer for Leicester as well today 🙏🏼

Lottsbiffandsmudge · 22/11/2022 18:35

I went to uni in Sheffield so any excuse to go back for me!!!
Congrats on the Leicester interviews.

Lottsbiffandsmudge · 22/11/2022 18:37

In fact my keeness to visit a lot if he ends up in Sheffield as a major con for my DS!!!!

UnclearNuclear · 22/11/2022 19:02

@Monkey2001 I agree with your son, no flying in mainland Uk for us either. Well turns out I can't take dd to Newcastle, and dh is out of the country that week so she's getting the train with a back up of driving herself if there are strikes, which would not be ideal so fingers crossed! The others she's applied to are all online if she's lucky enough.

Cathpot · 22/11/2022 19:15

Congratulations on the Leicester interviews coming through.

DD came to something of a halt today faced with lots of coursework deadlines and a big chemistry test, plus 2 weeks to prep for Sheffield. We made a list, and I’m not sure it helped that much as it was worryingly long! She needs to drop some hours at work I think,

It looks like I’m going to have to drive her to Sheffield after work the night before as can’t guarantee where DH will be as he’s on standby. It’s 6 hours drive from here but would be a ridiculous quest level of challenge to get the train even without strikes- so that’s out. I need to get back for work the day after so we won’t have much time to look around - but hope we can at least go for a late lunch. Need to book a premier inn or similar - any recommends or possibly ones to avoid??

Monkey2001 · 22/11/2022 20:14

@Cathpot is that 6 hours total or each way?! Do you know that unions have to give 2 weeks notice of strikes, so it will soon be clear if there is any chance of strikes w/c 5/12, so it may not be risky to get the train, if you preferred it. Hotels were discussed a couple of pages back, might be nice to stay near city centre so that you can get a feel for Sheffield. The area round the Northern hospital is not very lovely!

I think we are going to be OK that week - there is a strike this Saturday and 13/14 and 16/17 Dec, which is OK for us as by a miracle of luck DS seems to have picked his way through the strikes.

Cathpot · 22/11/2022 21:59

Thanks @Monkey2001 - I’ll look back for the hotel recommends.
Trains are about 7 hours and can’t get the night before starting after work -I only have the interview day off!
Good news about your DS dodging the strikes

Monkey2001 · 24/11/2022 13:49

All very quiet on here! Best of luck to those expecting BMAT results tomorrow.

Lottsbiffandsmudge · 24/11/2022 15:46

Does anyone know when in the dat BMAT comes through?.

GoldieRetrieversRule1 · 24/11/2022 15:49

@Lottsbiffandsmudge 9am tomorrow

Lottsbiffandsmudge · 24/11/2022 16:03

Thanks.

GoldieRetrieversRule1 · 24/11/2022 16:07

Manchester started sending invites. Dd got an interview.

kk10 · 24/11/2022 16:09

Leicster interview offer came today.... phew! All slots booked till January.

Peachy2005 · 24/11/2022 16:39

@GoldieRetrieversRule1 Huge congrats to your DD on getting the interview!

Does anyone know if Manchester usually sends them in batches or all at once?

GoldieRetrieversRule1 · 24/11/2022 16:54

thank you, @Peachy2005 ! Not sure about batches. Just can say there is choice of dates from 8/12 till 8/03. Best of luck to your DC!

NoNotHimTheOtherOne · 24/11/2022 16:57

Just alerting those of you advising prospective medics in year 11 or below that BMAT is being withdrawn after the 2023 tests: www.admissionstesting.org/news/view/reforms-to-cambridge-assessment-admissions-testing-from-2024/

I'm completely in the dark about what BMAT schools will do for the 2025 entry cycle.

Peachy2005 · 24/11/2022 17:07

@GoldieRetrieversRule1 DD (3030 B1) just got hers, it came in at 4.50!! Now she’s second-guessing herself over whether she should have chosen to do it online instead. Do people think it’s better to attend in person, if possible ? Booking seems to be flexible and changes are possible, which is a nice thing.

GoldieRetrieversRule1 · 24/11/2022 17:15

@Peachy2005 Congratulations! ))))

Shabpat · 24/11/2022 17:26

Congratulations to all and DD got her Manchester interview as well. In a dilemma whether to book online or go in person. The dates are so far ranging… sometimes getting too many choices, confuses you more !

Africa2go · 24/11/2022 17:30

Does anyone know how many people take BMAT? It seems the UCAT numbers are quite well publicised but I can't find any data for BMAT. Well done to everyone who has interviews through!

Monkey2001 · 24/11/2022 17:43

Congratulations to the Manchester people.

@kk10 glad to hear Leicester invitation came through, DS's did too, has booked 13th Jan. So that is all 4 booked, 2 in December and 2 in January, and none clashing with train strikes! DS happy.
