forst letter of surname is definitely one of those bits of info people could usefully put onto tsr…

Monkey2001 · 21/11/2022 10:03

@kk10 we are still waiting for Leicester with 63.5/64. They have not given many out yet, we will give them a couple of weeks before we worry. The order could be random or they might be starting at 59.5, or with Y13s, or surnames. I think Exeter and Sheffield may have got most of their interview invitations s out, but not any of the others.

Leicster is starting to worry us. Its interview offer system is confusing. Higher score children are still waiting. Not sure if its a good idea to call and check with university?

@kk10 we are waiting for Leicester as well. My daughter's score is 60.5
However surname is starting V. That might be the reason. What is your DC's score for Leceister if you don't mind sharing?
@Bimkom thanks for the information

@Monkey2001 Looks like this is the case of my DD and her friends. None of them have received the invite yet. All above 60 score.

Our surname starts with W and no interview from Leicester yet with 61.5.

Monkey2001 · 21/11/2022 13:47

I think cut offs always feel high at this stage in the process, but thinking logically, 36,374 people took UCAT this year, including dentists. If we assume 30,000 were medicine, there are places for a third of applicants. 30% got 2660+ and there should be space for most of those applicants who perform well at interview. Over 2850 a lot of universities are going to be interviewing the same 4,000 applicants. I think this might turn out to be a very good year for waiting list conversions to offers.

Unexpecteddrivinginstructor · 21/11/2022 14:15

Yes think that Sheffield might find that the inceased interest doesn't all convert to acceptaces. I think this could be less chartered territory for them.

kk10 · 21/11/2022 14:35

@medParent 61.5. DS also falls under Leicester guaranteed interview category

mumsneedwine · 21/11/2022 17:57

Sheffield is a very popular Uni. I'm sure it will fill it's places v easily. They'll interview the same number as usual and give the number of offers as usual. It's just that their applicants have higher UCATs this year. Might shoot down next year as it becomes more risky with a lower scores
Happened at Newcastle a few years ago - went from 2,900+ to 2620 !

Unexpecteddrivinginstructor · 21/11/2022 18:05

According to TSR there are 1789 additional applicants to Sheffield this year. Don't know where that info comes from.

Or did he mean 1,789 total applicants - makes more sense.

Unexpecteddrivinginstructor · 21/11/2022 20:38

Although the Sheffield medicine page said that last year they had more than 2200 applicants, so 1789 would be lower than last year. However to nearly double to 4000 seems unlikely too, with the cut off at 2850 it would mean that nearly all of the top 12% applied there. Maybe 178 more applied, that would sound more likely. It does seem like a really good course though and ticks lots of boxes so maybe just popular this year 🤷‍♀️.

I think they said 900 interviews, so if 900 with score >2850 applied, that is only 25% or so of the people in top 12%.

Unexpecteddrivinginstructor · 21/11/2022 22:37

Ah yes, although even that sounds high considering how many ucat schools are out there.

HAMROGUE · 22/11/2022 02:24

Morning

Any interview offers from Plymouth yet ?

Unexpecteddrivinginstructor · 22/11/2022 07:28

For anyone interested, from the student room discssion on Sheffield turns out it is 1789 home students, up 87 on last year. The post had some missing commas. Amazing how just an extra 87 can bump the ucat up so much. Seems it is just the place to be at the moment.

medParent · 22/11/2022 14:19

Leicester interview invite has come for my DD. Just got a message from DD.

Monkey2001 · 22/11/2022 15:33

Anyone else worried about train strikes? DS planning to go alone to most interviews by train, I don't fancy driving Bristol to Newcastle for an interview. He is planning visits to friends at Sheffield and GF at Nottingham around the interviews and if none get hit by strikes we will be very lucky!

Monkey2001 · 22/11/2022 15:36

@medParent congratulations on interview. Do you know which dates she was offered? We are hoping not to get invited until January is offered.

UnclearNuclear · 22/11/2022 15:41

Good point @Monkey2001 - I think we'll be driving to Newcastle, about 2.5 hours and a bugger by train anyway (we live in a train black hole). When I was a student at Bristol there were good coach connections too, via Birmingham, to Glasgow/Edinburgh. Is that worth looking at? And flying is a possibility, if unecological.
