Anyone heard back from St Andrews?

DD has 4 offers in but hasn’t heard back from St Andrews yet apart from the ‘we have received your application’ way back.

Any other English applicants (I know it might be different for Scottish students) got an offer or rejection yet?

My dc hasn’t heard yet either.

Wordlewobble · 12/02/2022 19:24

Year 13 in England over here also still waiting.

Its so maddening that they all offer on different dates. Also accommodation bookings are open now at some Uni’s on a first cone first served basis adding to the pressure before some of us have received all our offers back. If your an early entry applicant your almost penalised by having to have your application in first in then penalised again as you have to wait until last for some of the top Uni’s such as St Andrews. This may mean you miss out on accommodation at somewhere whose accommodation booking system opens early.

Cismyfatarse · 12/02/2022 19:27

DD is at St Andrews and they push it quite late for most subjects. She had no trouble with accommodation but Scottish so offer was unconditional so she knew she was in. It is based on the previous year's results for Scots on the whole.

Wbeezer · 12/02/2022 19:30

DS2 didn't hear from St Andrews until the end of March, he was applying for History.

VorpalSword · 12/02/2022 19:47

Good to know some sort of timeline, now I know end of March it will be easier discussing it.

She is lucky and no accommodation worries, St. Andrews will be second choice probably but it does seem a long wait from October submission,

@VorpalSword - where are your other DD’s choices?

Think DS is thinking Durham firm and then either York or St Andrews second (if they offer, but the latter could be risky).

Letsgoforaskip · 12/02/2022 21:06

My DS has had an offer for Philosophy.

Chewbecca · 12/02/2022 21:12

Still waiting here for Economics. It’s his favourite too.

Apparently some decisions went as late as May last year!

Smallkeys · 12/02/2022 21:12

Scottish not heard for St. Andrews , Strathclyde or Glasgow I’m finding it excruciating DD taking it in stride

Wordlewobble · 12/02/2022 21:55

I heard May too @Chewbecca which is a ridiculous amount of time to leave everything up in the air.

Smallkeys · 12/02/2022 22:15

That’s the issue with late replies is the halls/accommodation especially if you get rejected and take up your second choice .

SayYouDontMind · 12/02/2022 22:37

Scottish and haven't heard from any Scottish Unis including St Andrews, Edinburgh and Glasgow. Hope we hear from St Andrews by end of March. Straight A student in Nat 5s and Highers and predicted 3 As at Advanced Higher but am not banking on an unconditional offer this year.

Smallkeys · 12/02/2022 22:44

@SayYouDontMind we are the same for DD and I’m not holding lots of hope heard a student with 6 x A got a flat rejection for psychology from Strathclyde ...

I feel places like St. Andrews and Glasgow are seeing what fee paying students are applying I guess I could be completely wrong .

margotsdevil · 12/02/2022 22:50

Some Scottish students have definitely received offers over the last couple of weeks (sciences).

Smallkeys · 12/02/2022 22:52

Yes you are right for some faculties DD friends got unconditional before Xmas for Strathclyde and DD got one from Edinburgh ask I before Xmas but waiting on the others

Smallkeys · 12/02/2022 22:52

*also before xmas

SayYouDontMind · 13/02/2022 01:14

Yes, I believe the science department has been a lot more quick off the mark. My DS isn’t applying for any science subjects.

Darbs76 · 13/02/2022 08:33

No DS hasn’t heard yet. I believe it could be April / May time even. DS is waiting to hear from Imperial and Edinburgh too (place at Warwick offered).

VorpalSword · 13/02/2022 10:14

Very similar. Cambridge as first choice then either York or St Andrews. Both great options and given high grades boundariesFor Cambridge the 2nd choice is important.

waiting for a medicine decision here...

EwwSprouts · 13/02/2022 17:36

English yr13 student just waiting for St Andrews which would probably be his firm. Biology.

Wbeezer · 14/02/2022 11:48

@Smallkeys as the places for Scottish students are capped your DS wil be competing against all the other clever Scottish kids for a place not the fee paying ones.
My DS is a current student and I think the whole uni admin is just struggling a bit to recover from the pandemic, the system is under strain, higher demands from students who are struggling a bit with the disruption not to mention a big covid outbreak at the moment and imminent strike action. Don't get me wrong, DS has no complaints and no regrets (but then he is a Scottish student not an International who seem to have rather high expectations of the "service" the uni should provide judging by my snooping on the parents Facebook page).

Smallkeys · 14/02/2022 12:20

I saw that there is now strike action so assuming further delays. Not surprised they are struggling, the wait is just excruciating :-)

Stockpot · 14/02/2022 12:30

Strike action?

Wbeezer · 14/02/2022 12:39

I well remember the excruciating wait! Not fun. I was girding myself for another this year as DS3 applied for a course with a 5% acceptance rate (not St As) but he's decided to do a gap year so I have a year off, well apart from DS2s Masters application and DS1s conditional uni place.
