Anyone heard back from St Andrews?

VorpalSword · 12/02/2022 19:02

DD has 4 offers in but hasn’t heard back from St Andrews yet apart from the ‘we have received your application’ way back.

Any other English applicants (I know it might be different for Scottish students) got an offer or rejection yet?

Yes a number of Scottish unis are starting a 10 day strike.

Puffalicious · 14/02/2022 12:54

DS had 3X Unconditionals way before Xmas for Edinburgh, Glasgow and Strathclyde. Maths. Perhaps Maths are quicker off the mark? Still waiting on St As, though. He's not so keen on St As at the moment, so I'm not concerned. It's awful for those DC who are desperate to hear, esp if accomodation issues. They really need to work towards a universal offer day!

Puffalicious · 14/02/2022 12:57

And 6XAs reject for psychology at Strathclyde? Really?! Wowsers. That's the course I did many years ago: great course, great department but 6 As? That's ridiculous.

Alittlewornout · 14/02/2022 13:17

Hoping your dc all hear soon. Pre pandemic my dd and ds heard around mid to late Feb, one for History and one for maths.
St A really do pay attenrion to the PS in some detail. Dd was told they are scored when she had a talk to a maths lecturer pre admission. Not sure if thats the case for all subjects.
My Ds did not have perfect grades and secured a place, I am sure based on his PS as his love of history was evident. Excellent grades are not all they look for it would seem.

Wbeezer · 14/02/2022 13:17

From what I remember they don't allocate accomodation until all the offers are out and acceptances in. But it was four years a ago so a bit hazy.

Chewbecca · 14/02/2022 15:02

DS has an offer for Strathclyde, but we are in England.

I’m kind of happy to hear that St A’s are looking closely at the PS, at least it will feel like he has been accepted or rejected based on him - I thought my DS’s PS really did sound like him so if that’s a good match - better to know now.

Smallkeys · 14/02/2022 16:57

Yes DD knows a math person got their offers for maths before Xmas and civil engineering. DD is wanting to do finance

Linnet · 14/02/2022 17:07

My dd is waiting to hear back from St Andrews, it’s the only one she’s waiting to hear from. All the others have got back to her with unconditionals but she doesn’t want to make a decision until she’s heard back from everyone. Oh and we’re in Scotland.

Smallkeys · 14/02/2022 17:08

What was she applying for ? I think the business school seems to last maybe it’s a very popular course .

Wordlewobble · 14/02/2022 17:51

@Wbeezer some other Uni’s in England like York have opened accommodation portals now before students have received all offers. They may not allocate yet but they are offering accommodation on a first come first served basis so adding to the pressure for students who still haven’t received all of their offers yet. So still unsure of their firm or insurance choices.

Puffalicious · 14/02/2022 18:59

Wordlewobble see that just doesn't seem fair.

Smallkeys · 14/02/2022 19:41

Well bizarrely DD got an unconditional today from Strathclyde nothing from ST A yet !

CherryMaple · 14/02/2022 19:45

We are in England. Still waiting for St Andrews for Economics.

Smallkeys · 14/02/2022 20:18

Actually my friends daughter last year got St. Andrews wanted to hear from Glasgow just as a kind of pride thing but couldn’t wait as hall applications had opened .

Linnet · 14/02/2022 20:33

She’s applied for History
Wbeezer · 14/02/2022 23:29

@Wordlewobble i was only talking about St Andrews, i hadnt really though about the knock on effect of late offers on accommodation elsewhere. It really is a bit different in Scotland because most offers are unconditional, never had to go into the firm/second choice business. DS only wanted to go to St Andrews, for various reasons, so we didn't really bother finding out about accommodation elsewhere anyway.

Wbeezer · 14/02/2022 23:34

I checked on incoming offers on The Student Room, quite useful but can make you more nervous if you're not careful.

Dobbyismyabsolutefav · 18/02/2022 16:21

St Andrews wasn't one of my DD's choices but last year students were still waiting to hear from them in April/May.

I think the universities who open their accommodation earlier put pressure on students to firm way too early. The university my DD firmed with their accommodation preferences didn't need to be in until July and was then allocated after results day. This seemed much fairer and allowed my DD to really reflect on her five offers.

Reusername · 27/02/2022 21:40

My DS has heard on Friday- conditional offer. Anyone going up to the offer holders day? We just booked our flights! Not sure DS is super keen, seems to think the university will be full of Americans base don the online chat this Friday.

Igneococcus · 28/02/2022 09:12

My dd is in the exact same position @Linnet, same subject also a Scottish applicant. I wish they would just get on with it.

Chewbecca · 28/02/2022 15:57

Congrats to your DS reusername.
Can I ask what subject and are you in England?

Reusername · 28/02/2022 16:10

chewbacca it's History

Reusername · 28/02/2022 16:11

Oh and yes we are in England.

Wordlewobble · 01/03/2022 11:02

How is everyone holding up?

DS current year 13 living in England has 3 offers in, one of whom opened their accommodation portals a few weeks ago on a first come first served basis?!?

Still waiting to hear from St Andrews!?! In a chat on their website apparently Admissions are working hard and they are hoping to make the majority of their offers in March/April time. So 🤞 this will be the case and the waiting either way will be over soon or soonish.

Chewbecca · 01/03/2022 12:17

Thanks reusername. Different subject area!

DS has 4 offers, one will definitely be his insurance.

We are attending offer holder days to decide which is the first choice of the other 3 but if St A offers - will become irrelevant as it is his favourite regardless of OHD experiences so their late response is annoying! Still, having some nice family weekends away.
