University Offers for 2022 Start

I've heard universities are being more cautious this year, with some stating that they are not going to make most offers until the January deadline, when they can see a clearer picture - because of the over-subscription that happened for last year's students.

I thought it might be interesting to see which universities are making offers for which subjects.

We've only heard from York so far, for Computer Science. York University do seem to be making early offers.

Anyone else heard from any universities? Think it would be good to know what is happening out there :)

I know a few young people who have had offers from Nottingham. Ds’ application was submitted by the school yesterday so I will update if he hears anything next week!

Best of luck!

I have heard of offers from York, Birmingham, Bristol, Nottingham and Warwick.

Calmed · 13/11/2021 08:00

Do you know which subjects? I think it was Warwick that said for English, they were waiting until January. It seems to also depend on the subject - not just the university.

If I could give anyone advice (from a recent grad) avoid University altogether, if you have to study at a home university or on open uni whilst working in a relevant role. Try and get and apprenticeship or training role but do not go to university, it is a waste of time and money and unnecessarily traumatic. Wages don't differ much from experience as long as you have a level 4 and above, and affordability for housing and living costs are much cheaper up north.

I can't recall for Warwick I saw it on another thread tbh! Might have been MORSE.

Birmingham and York are several subjects. I was most surprised by Bristol as they kept people hanging on for ages last year.

DD has offer from Lancaster for Politics/international relations.

Geamhradh · 13/11/2021 08:14

Apparently some universities wait until after deadlines, others start filtering as applications come through. DD has Bath, St.Andrews, Exeter and Cambridge. Has submitted written work to Cambridge and will know end of Nov is through to interview.
I imagine next one to come up with a decision will be Exeter as Bath offer late and St. Andrews is about as likely as Cambridge!

Volterra · 13/11/2021 08:34

I have heard of maths offers from Leeds, Imperial, Warwick and Birmingham,.

SJ1975 · 13/11/2021 09:57

My son has offers from York, Newcastle, Sheffield and Lincoln for Computer Science. Applied 13 October and received offers within a fortnight. These are all contextual due to our postcode so don't know if that has influenced the speed of the decisions. We are waiting on Durham but I know they are notoriously late to offer.

estherfrewen · 13/11/2021 10:50

Warwick offer for ancient history, Cardiff and Birmingham for history

Fruitygal · 13/11/2021 12:36

DDs friends have had offers from York, Nottingham, Warwick, Lancaster, Sheffield, Glasgow and Reading. None are contextual. DDs form only went to ucas this week so we will wait. These offers are to those who submitted early. 2 Cambridge interviews and a Kings one for medicine - also from her friends.

Twizique · 13/11/2021 14:07

York and Manchester so far.

You have used the exact same wording on your same post on WWIKAU so if you don't wish to be identified on here you may wish to consider changing your user name.

DD has offers from Nottingham, UEA and Kent so far. Birmingham have requested an essay prior to offering. Waiting to hear from Exeter. Liberal Arts.

Smoothbananagram · 13/11/2021 16:13

Stockpot · 13/11/2021 16:17

Funny my advice would be completely different! Don't do an apprenticeship unless you are absolutely certain it's in the career you definitely want, and that's a tough decision for 18 year olds to make. Doing the wrong one makes it much more difficult to switch careers later on.

And don't go to your local uni unless it is the best one for you and your subject and your grades.

They're young and free - they should aim as high as they can.

123rd · 13/11/2021 18:12

Do certain courses tend to get offers out before others? So Nottingham English offers would be sent out before Nottingham History for example?

ShaunaTheSheep · 14/11/2021 08:16

Psychology offers from York, Birmingham, Southampton and Swansea.

Bristol is variable- last year DS2 had a very early offer (which he firmed), but the year before DS1 was kept hanging until the bitter end (and had lost interest by the time it came through).

Lampzade · 14/11/2021 08:21

DD has offers for economics for York and Bristol

KingscoteStaff · 14/11/2021 08:28

DD has Nottingham offer for Medicinal and Biological Chemistry. Friends have Languages offers from Bristol + Edinburgh and Humanities from York.

Shimy · 14/11/2021 08:36

Totally agree with what @Titchy said. @halloweenie13 the advice you gave was quite poor and over generalised and it's a bit odd coming on to post such negative advice on a thread where people are discussing university offers.

You sound like you have had a difficult time, am sorry to hear that 💐 There’s a lot of people from a wide variety of fields on here , if you start a thread of your own people may be able to give you some advice with things you might not have thought of as a way forward.

My friend’s DD is on well over 40k plus just over a year after graduating, I don’t think she would have done this without a degree. There are also a fair few jobs you can’t do without a degree and often higher these days, it’s not just about the money and jobs though, it is a really positive experience for many. A chance to get out of comfort zone and meet many people from different walks of life and realise all the possibilities out there. I think sadly it is traumatic for a small number but all the recent graduates I know are pleased they went and wouldn’t share your opinion.

NCTDN · 14/11/2021 08:59

Offers within a fortnight is amazing! DD has only just submitted her form which I know is still very early. Looking at this I wonder if Warwick will be the first she hears from.
@Seeline which other unis has she applied to? I remember you saying about liberal arts. Dd is Durham, Bristol, Warwick, Loughborough and Manchester.
