@Meery

I heard anecdotally that Mary’s has small ie 2’6 wide single beds!
Oh gosh that's a tiny bed @Meery!
bendmeoverbackwards · 24/08/2021 12:08

Dd's moving in day is 18th September but apparently the time slots have gone! Dd phoned them yesterday and is waiting to hear back. Depending on the time she gets we may stay over either on Friday or Saturday night.

Meanwhile dd1's flat has fallen through so she won't be moving out just yet. Her friend was messing her around with how much rent she could afford, it kept getting lower and lower. Best to pull out now before dd1 is landed with more than her fair share of rent/bills. She's now going to look to see if she can join an existing group.

BigWoollyJumpers · 24/08/2021 12:15
@Eastisup those storage bags look great too, thanks for the tip.

Dd has a single bed in halls, makes changing the sheets easier I suppose. Think we'll get everything from Ikea including bedding.

I hope those who unfortunately have covid are making a good recovery and hoping the isolation period is passing by quickly.
You probably know, but watch out for IKEA bedding as it is not standard. Got caught out by that a while ago, as the bedding sets only fit their own duvets so I had to send a lovely set back as it was too big for DD's standard single duvet.

Eastisup · 24/08/2021 12:20

Thanks @BigWoollyJumpers we live down the road from an Ikea and have made this mistake more times than I care to admit Blush
By some fortuitous piece of luck, dd has a small double at home and has informed me that her room in halls also has a small double!! Means she can take some existing favourite sets of bedding and I might get her a nice new set to take too Smile

Jng1 · 24/08/2021 12:22

DS had his second jab on Saturday and felt a bit iffy for a couple of days afterwards - not helped I don't think by the guy giving him the jab who told him since Ds had had covid a monthly previously it was "bound to hit him hard like a train" Hmm. Unhelpful!

DS also not embracing the uni prep as much as I'd like! Like others I wasn't keen to repeat the IKEA experience I had with DS1 so we've been sourcing everything from Wilko/ Argos/Sainsbury's. Having bought new duvet covers, DS has decided he'd prefer to take his familiar ones from home (which I guess is fair enough).

bendmeoverbackwards · 24/08/2021 12:24

@BigWoollyJumpers I did not know that, thank you! I was actually planning to buy a duvet from Ikea too so that should be ok. Or on second thoughts maybe I should buy it all from somewhere else that does standard sizes!

Peaseblossum22 · 24/08/2021 12:26

Jng that’s interesting , ds has Covid now , we have booked second jab for 4 weeks after positive test which is 10 days before he goes , I hope he will be ok

I wouldn't change it - he may be fine. DS1 also had his second jab 4 weeks after covid and had virtually no side effects. I think DS2 was just expecting to feel bad after his conversation at the vaccination centre!
bendmeoverbackwards · 24/08/2021 13:58

Has anyone tried Primark for bedding?

Notagardener · 24/08/2021 14:12

Wasn't planning to buy any more bedding, didn't do that for dc1. As they will hardly be at home, as they are pigs anyway, not going to need more than 2 sets at uni, and 1 set at home (where they can use the old spiderman/princess covers)

BigWoollyJumpers · 24/08/2021 14:40

@bendmeoverbackwards

Has anyone tried Primark for bedding?
DD bought some, I took it all back! Not very nice.
BigWoollyJumpers · 24/08/2021 14:42

In the end got one from JL (not cheap), one from Next (medium), and fitted sheets from M&S surprisingly cheap. JL fitted sheets went back because they were the wrong colour grey and then they had no white left!!

BigWoollyJumpers · 24/08/2021 14:44

More bad news. DD's friend from her course, who she has been communicating with for several weeks now, and they have got quite close. Her allocation came through today, and she is off campus, in a single bed with 6 to a bathroom. She is thinking of deferring now.

bendmeoverbackwards · 24/08/2021 16:02

Oh no @BigWoollyJumpers that's really rubbish for her Sad I wonder if there will be any last minute movement? Is it worth her calling the accommodation office?

Dobbyismyabsolutefav · 24/08/2021 16:09

That's a shame @BigWoollyJumpers. My DD's accommodation block are very chatty on social media so she feels reassured that they are a friendly bunch.

Everyone seems very organised I haven't bought a thing yet! On the plus side DD had her second vaccination last week and past her driving test yesterday! So is very happy.

bendmeoverbackwards · 24/08/2021 16:11

Great news on both counts @Dobbyismyabsolutefav Smile

Don't worry about buying stuff, it's really just one shopping trip, plenty of time. And I've said to dd she can always buy things at a later date.

Dobbyismyabsolutefav · 24/08/2021 16:32

Thanks @bendmeoverbackwards

We don't have an IKEA near us so JL and Dunelm will have to do.

Revengeofthepangolins · 24/08/2021 16:43

I have made a start on shopping (again, DS only very marginally interested apart from asking for a Nutribullet which I suspect won't get washed enough and so no used). Another with 4 foot/small double bed, so I went luxury and bought these - £30 down from £52 600TC Eygptian cotton. Of course, they may well only get one year's use, but hey ho.

Revengeofthepangolins · 24/08/2021 16:45

We were in Ikea earlier this week and there were lots of mothers and daughters happily browsing colour-coordinated storage boxes and desk tidies. I was rather jealous but distracted by the constant vigilance to make sure that no new soft toys come home. And I don't have any tinies any more - the pester power is from my 15 year old and husband, curiously.

The Uni-going boys were presumably all snoring in bed still!

bendmeoverbackwards · 24/08/2021 17:18

Dd got some lovely news yesterday - she got a Distinction for her Grade 8 LAMDA acting exam. She's very pleased.

I'm hoping I have now been forgiven for her Grade 7 debacle - she 'only' got a Merit after I got her to the exam late (got caught up in town) Grin

chopc · 24/08/2021 17:31

Oh wow! Congratulations bend and daughter!

AvocadoPlant · 24/08/2021 18:47

Congratulations @bendmeoverbackwards DD - fantastic achievement 🎭

OnTheBenchOfDoom · 24/08/2021 19:46

That is great news @bendmeoverbackwards.

@Dobbyismyabsolutefav we went shopping because Dh was off. He enjoys shopping as does Ds1. Ds2 was in summer school for grade 9ers, he doesn't like shopping at all for anything.

@Revengeofthepangolins we were in Ikea as it opened at 9.30am! Ds was loving it, choosing all his stuff. He doesn't do lie ins, afternoon naps maybe but neither of my children sleep in past 8am even in the holidays. We are all morning people. I would rather be up, get stuff done and then return to bed for an afternoon nap.

Ds has chosen his duvet cover from Next. His one at home matches his room colour scheme and he wants to keep that one for here. He cooked dinner tonight and used a jar of bolognaise sauce (we make ours from scratch) he was not very impressed and working out how he can zhuzh it up.
