ooh first reply!

DS booked his vaccine for Sunday (had been Friday but he is playing football on Saturday so didn't want to risk side effects). Second dose Mid-August which is quite soon.

Will be good if they can all/most get double jabs before next year starts - lets hope the Unis' do their bit with more f2f teaching too. Bath so far seems fairly optimistic on that, with f2f tutorials but lectures may be 'mixed' format

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 18/06/2021 11:34

@MrKlaw, good for your DS. Remains to be seen whether our DS heeds our advice and heads on down to the appointment-free vaccine centre today. Really hope he does!

I was only talking with an academic I know yesterday. I think the online lectures are definitely going to continue to be a thing going forward, not least because the students like being able to access them in their own time. Not sure if this is an 'across the board' view by universities though!

Hope your DS in enjoying the end of year activities? DS was off to do an escape room experience with his friends. Think he's done more in the past couple of weeks than he had previously done in 15 months!

He's a slow one - only had a couple of outings with friends so far. Off up to london to play football (group of 6 - he's sensible) but he does need to be a bit more outgoing. He did find some good roommates but that may be comfortable rather than challenging? You tend to find similar types of people grouping together.

Lockdown hasn't helped with that and next year will likely be all hands to the pumps for the final year so even if it opens up he might not take full advantage.

He's so thoughtful (DW's doing) but can tend to put others thoughts too much ahead of his own which can make him hesitant to just do stuff.

blametheparents · 18/06/2021 12:07

@MrKlaw - He sounds like a fab young man. World is made up of all sorts of people, but if he's happy and kind then they're the type of people we need more of :-)

DS has booked his vaccine too, for next weekend. The follow up one is in September, I guess it remains to be seen whether that will eventually be brought forward like a lot of the over 40s were able to do.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 18/06/2021 12:13

@MrKlaw having a thoughtful son is very positive. Good for him and to you and your DW for bringing him up so well!

DS isn't terribly outgoing or rather he is quite happy in his own company. So he has been doing more with friends recently but certainly isn't a party animal! They are all so different, aren't they? As long as they find their 'tribe', all is good.

DS has booked his, but not till 9th so I’m hoping there’s an over 18s walk in somewhere near that he can go to sooner.

He’s not going back until the day before he moves and then just to move as my mum passed last week and the funeral is a couple of days later - he is worried he might get ill and have to miss it or pass it on Sad

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 18/06/2021 16:41

Sorry to hear your sad news @bigTillyMint.

Ds just text to say final exam finished and it's the end of his second university year. Let's hope the third is better.

His vaccine is booked for next Thursday. I'm in the 45-49 group and having my second next weds. It'll be 11 weeks after the first. I thought it might have been sooner, we have to wait to be called by our local surgery.

Shimy · 18/06/2021 17:22

icanbe Why can’t you book through the NHS central booking system? I booked both of mine this way.

Shimy · 18/06/2021 17:23

@bigTillyMint Condolences Flowers.

icanbewhatiwant · 18/06/2021 17:52

@Shimy we had ours done through our gp surgery. It's 5 mins drive away. They called both of us before our actual time we would have booked online. Plus booking on line people in our area have had to travel miles away to cities an hour or so away. The only downside is we had to wait for the call for the second. My husband had his second almost 12 weeks to the day and mine is 11 weeks. Ds1 has just booked his via the university and could only book one too.

icanbewhatiwant · 18/06/2021 17:54

@Shimy should have said our gp surgery isn't on the central booking system as they are only vaccinating their own patients.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 18/06/2021 20:21

I was on the very first thread, joined from another country / system. DD is in her fourth semester - 3 of them completely online (lectures, work groups, discussion groups, assignments, exams etc.). Today she was zooming from 12 to 18 h.
One of her profs got stuck in Italy last year and one in China.
Luckily there are no fees to speak of.

@bigTillyMint Flowers

@NewModelArmyMayhem18 Thanks!

Dd had her jab last week and has gone back up for a couple of events and to pack up her house. She's on her own in the house, so chance of having to isolate is lower. Before she went she ordered a packet of lateral flow to her house so she has those.
Dh is going up the end of next week for moving. She had 5 days between house contracts. Bit irritating as the landlord has spent a lot of the last few months with the house empty refurbishing etc. So they've got a nice little house just outside Durham to stay in. Just hope she doesn't test positive in this time.

Shimy · 18/06/2021 21:42

ICan That’s perfectly understandable in your circumstances and I didn’t know some surgeries weren’t even on the central booking system. Talking about distance, I was allocated somewhere 11miles away from home. The odd thing is there was a vaccine centre right on my street, I guess it must’ve been fully booked.

icanbewhatiwant · 18/06/2021 22:08

@Shimy yes I think if surgeries do their own patients it is different.

The surgery in our nearest town (not our surgery) wasn't doing the vaccine at first. It caused such a stir as elderly couldn't get to the vaccine centres. They were an hour and half round trip in a car away. Some travelled even further. So I'm glad our surgery offered them. Our surgery are not vaccinating the under 40's though. So it's a vaccine hub for them.

BrumCahoots · 18/06/2021 22:46

Benjispruce3 · 19/06/2021 18:49

So sorry to hear that @bigTillyMint. FlowersBrewGin

RampantIvy · 20/06/2021 06:39

Sorry for your loss @bigTillyMint Flowers

How is everyone's DC getting jabs? Have they been contacted by their GP? DD hasn't been invited for a vaccine yet.

Notagardener · 20/06/2021 07:12

Go on the NHS vaccination website to book, or like DC she booked via local hospital website, or look for popup clinics.

Benjispruce3 · 20/06/2021 07:19

www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirus-vaccination/book-coronavirus-vaccination/
DD booked it here, as did I.
