Apologies if I've done this wrong! I seemed to have filled up the last thread, hopefully the abbreviated title is ok!

Sorry to be a dimmy - which website @BigWoollyJumpers ?

jano69 · 15/06/2021 11:46

www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirus-vaccination/book-coronavirus-vaccination/

Currently open to 23 and 24 year olds

chopc · 15/06/2021 12:03

Ah right @jano69 . Yep aware of that one of course but was wondering if there is another

ChimneyPot · 15/06/2021 13:01

@jano69 I hope your DS feels ok and doesn’t get a bad dose.

In Ireland was are still at the 40+ for vaccines. DH and I have both had one dose and due the second in 2 weeks time. We have 28day spacing.
DD got her first dose at the weekend. She fits the early vaccination criteria because she has been on oral steroids for asthma this year.

No idea when my 17 year olds will be offered a vaccine, probably the autumn. If J&J was suitable for that age group I would have already brought them to the US for vaccines but the 3 week wait between doses makes it more difficult.

BigWoollyJumpers · 15/06/2021 14:54

So, DD now has the list of the pieces of work which will be submitted for her final grade. All signed off by teachers, heads of dept and heads of sixth form, so well moderated. However, none of the raw marks have been shared, and only one piece of homework is included, all the rest is assessments and course work. They didn't share the coursework marks either, which I think ordinarily they would have been given prior to ALevels? Can't remember.

She has also had to sign off the list to agree to that submission, so no appeals against the school for process.

Crumpetstoday · 15/06/2021 16:05

@Revengeofthepangolins we heard from a friend with a teenage neighbour working there. I’ve “heard” that Brentford fountain will be doing over 18’s on Friday, not sure how you verify if that’s so. Might be worth a wander up if you’re close.

Justanotherday3 · 15/06/2021 19:20

@BigWoollyJumpers

Course work marks are normally shared with students after moderation, so I see no reason why students wouldn’t be sharing them with students. DS’s school is using them towards grades as per boards normal percentage, so I think for English & History that is 20%.

Justanotherday3 · 15/06/2021 19:21

I meant schools sharing them with students!

Justanotherday3 · 15/06/2021 19:24

I think the differing levels of transparency between schools is very unfair & creates such stress for students. DS knows his coursework raw mark & grade and has been told his raw mark for his final assessment, which the school said is being given ‘strong’ consideration for his final grade - so he can look at the grade boundaries for 2019/18 and pretty much work out his final grades.

Revengeofthepangolins · 15/06/2021 19:49

@Crumpetstoday Aha. Many thanks. I see they are running there on Friday and Sat although nothing on website as yet about walk ins etc. - thanks for the previews.

Am finding DS rather irritating on the vaccine topic at the moment. I can see that 18 year olds might make the decision that the risk reward balance is wrong for them, in which case decide now not to have it. But if you are going to have it, then crack and and find a way to have it now, because that could the chance to be double vaccinated in time to slip away for a boys trip to France before university starts. Alternatively, be a floppy teen, fall between the stools passively and just not bother to get ahead and then miss a possible chance to get away. grr

DS1 Leavers Ball was cancelled 😞. Desperately sad ......My DS2's school moved their last day event online and cited the school has been going since 1432 and "this too shall pass". However, school leavers won't leave school again ....... so the boat has sailed for them.

I know in the grand scheme of things these may be insignificant events but for me as a parent my heart breaks when I think of what the kids - especially DS1 has / is and will be missing out on.

Longtimenewsee · 16/06/2021 07:59

DD’s leavers ball also cancelled.

BigWoollyJumpers · 16/06/2021 10:03

DD's has been cancelled but they have managed to re-book for early Sept, it was in a local hotel, so they have accommodated them on a quiet day! Hopefully no uni's will be doing moving in that early, so seems a good compromise. They tried to do it slightly earlier, just after results day, but of course things are fully booked up then.

Waiting for news on our prize giving, assume parents won't now be invited, and for DD's boyfriends leavers, which also includes parents and plus ones, but assume that also off. I still think these events could go ahead with a bit of will. They are closed bubbles and outside. In my mind, no different from a large wedding. In fact, better, as they are all testing regularly..... but hey ho..... c'est la vie.

Notagardener · 16/06/2021 12:17

chopc and longtimenewsee, that is disappointing to having to cancel it. Dc2 was never going to have one, they are having a BBQ instead. At least no wasted prom dress...

chopc · 16/06/2021 13:15

Thanks for the empathy @Notagardener

jano69 · 16/06/2021 13:49

another leaver ball cancellation here too 🥲

Revengeofthepangolins · 16/06/2021 14:09

I don't understand why all these balls can't go ahead but without parents, assuming they are happening at school

chopc · 16/06/2021 14:25

Apparently as it's would still be a social gathering of 200 people with no proper social distancing the company running the event wouldn't be licensed to do so as it's breaking govn restrictions.

I suppose they are right as they couldn't even do a year photo /whole house photo due to the bubbles

I don't know how they managed to have a chapel service for the upper sixth and parents though 🤔. Put parents were strictly socially distanced in their seating

chopc · 16/06/2021 14:26

If I am honest I think I am more upset than DS. He is more into playing a round of golf or a game of cricket with his friends than going to a ball

BigWoollyJumpers · 16/06/2021 14:51

I suppose they are right as they couldn't even do a year photo /whole house photo due to the bubbles

Gosh that's extreme. DD's boyfriends school had the full year photo's, house photo's, team photo's etc etc.

BigWoollyJumpers · 16/06/2021 14:53

Apparently as it's would still be a social gathering of 200 people with no proper social distancing the company running the event wouldn't be licensed to do so as it's breaking govn restrictions

They could call it "educational". "How to behave nicely in a social environment and be a grown up!" I am only half joking!!

derekthe1adyhamster · 16/06/2021 15:00

No house photo at our school either, the new starters event is now pupils only instead of including parents, and it's all a bit sad.

The leavers in the school I work in, were all meant to be back for the last night together, I'm not even sure that will happen. Several yr 13's have tested positive, and the teachers do not want to spend the first 10 days of the summer holidays isolating if the girls have not been sensible over the last few weeks. Plus the fact we have internationals trying to get home on the last day many of whom haven't seen their family all year.

It's bad, but I think last year was worse, we didn't even get to say goodbye last year.

Over 21s are now able to book their vaccine, bit of a pain for DS as he doesn't have a car and it's quite a way from where he lives (over an hour on the bus), but he's booked for Friday and hoping that his housemate will drive him!

Longtimenewsee · 16/06/2021 15:47

Dds school photographed them in bubbles on stands and then did a hatchet job to put them all together.
It didn’t work well and there are legs that don’t belong to anyone under one of the stands Grin Made us giggle though!

MarchingFrogs · 16/06/2021 16:32

Have just prompted DS2 to let me have the link for their photo, as they actually did have one along with the bouncy castles and ice cream etc. No doubt it will turn out either that he's lost it, or that we are into the 'Please pay extra because you're late' period. Or both, of course...

chopc · 16/06/2021 20:21

@BigWoollyJumpers as always rules are open to interpretation. But DS school won't take a chance at tarnishing their rep
