Ha that sounds about right @icanbewhatiwant (the message about running out of undies!). Sounds like a great trip.

I'm sure I read that finals results for UEA were due by the 3rd July, so likely this week I'd have thought?

@Allfurcoatandnoknickers glad you're on the mend. And good for your DS going to help your DD bring all her kit home. DS still has another six weeks before his contract is up. Can't see much evidence that he's brought much home so far (except a few random items of clothing). Certainly none of the bulky stuff that is going to be more difficult to get home easily.

icanbewhatiwant · 01/07/2022 13:30

Anyone any news on results? So many universities seem to have given them out already.

LouisCatorze · 01/07/2022 13:40

@icanbewhatiwant well DS hasn't been in touch but he usually keeps 'twilight' hours so could well still be asleep! I thought they were due out by the 3rd July but I've not seen any posts about any UEA finals results for this year. Although there is a UEA SU SOS post on Twitter for those unhappy with their results (posted on the 29th), if that suggests results are out this week?

icanbewhatiwant · 01/07/2022 13:59

@LouisCatorze thanks. I found a question online about results. But it was from 2017. Someone asked when final result come out and the reply was they are always released by 7th July. So many that still stands.

NotSorry · 01/07/2022 14:13

My DS has all his results from each exam, so has his gf

icanbewhatiwant · 01/07/2022 15:18

@NotSorry I think Ds has his results from all his coursework and dissertation. But not the final exams.

NotSorry · 01/07/2022 15:22

I guess different departments work at different paces?

icanbewhatiwant · 01/07/2022 18:35

Ds now has his results from 2 exams, his 2 essays and dissertation. But not the final results. He's been told 13th. I thought adding them all up together and making into a percent would give the final grade, until Ds told me they aren't evenly weighted.

boys3 · 01/07/2022 20:48

DS2 has all his individual component results, and believes he has correctly calculated the overall "score" - which assumes he knows all the correct weightings for each element. Waiting for formal confirmation - I've heard mention somewhere of the 3rd July - seems the sensible approach though; especially as that is needed to confirm acceptance to do a Masters so don't sign a tenancy agreement for another year just yet. Picking him up from Norwich tomorrow, so he's back home for a couple of months, starting his holiday job on Monday morning, and hopefully then back at UEA again in September, and of course back in a few weeks for graduation day.

Hard to believe that we've managed to have an entire pandemic whilst all our DCs have been there, or indeed thinking when they all started back in September 2019 that such a thing could have happened.

icanbewhatiwant · 01/07/2022 22:41

Ds messaged from USA earlier to say the friend he's travelling with has his result just in today.

I have to go to Norwich Sunday to empty rubbish and stuff Ds and his housemates have left. I'm meeting the landlord at 10am. It's been difficult sorting it all as Ds and the chap he's travelling with left first, followed by another that weekend. 1 of them hasn't really stayed all year, but his room is full. Another went home a month ago but left all his stuff. The person who took on main responsibility for the bills etc left today. He didn't want to wait until the contract runs out next week. Apparently the final 2 are returning over the weekend to collect stuff. It would have been so much easier if they'd all agreed to leave the same day and clean up together. There is a lot of recycle type rubbish left to get rid of. Ds left a whole bag of clothes there too.
Hopefully I can clear it all so we get our deposit back. It'll be weird going for the last time, minus Ds.

boys3 · 02/07/2022 19:50

@icanbewhatiwant just read your last post. 😧Best of luck for tomorrow, and with deposit return

LouisCatorze · 03/07/2022 07:38

@icanbewhatiwant I admire you for going to do the 'final push' with getting the student house back to shipshape and taking away all the recycling etc. Good luck!

DS is planning on leaving his student share just after graduation, leaving (it sounds like) the least reliable housemate in situ until the bitter end. Not convinced that's going to result in 100% deposit returns but we'll see.

The problem is that however much you try to 'divy up' the final clean-up/clear out before vacating a property, there's really a limit as to what can be done unless all sharers leave at the same time. Or the last one standing is super-organised, super conscientious and has access to a car for last-minute trips to the tip.

Haven't heard a thing from DS about his result or even his final module marks. I think he was rather burying his head in the sand so it wouldn't surprise me if he's not actually read the relevant emails.

Yes, I too saw 3rd July as the finals results out by date. A bit strange for them to be sent out by email over the weekend though, isn't it? Although I guess in this era, emails can be scheduled in?

Good luck to everyone.

icanbewhatiwant · 03/07/2022 08:13

Ds left before all the others because he was off to USA. He took a photo of his room. He also gave the kitchen a good tidy. One of the housemates has hardly been there all year but apparently came back the weekend after Ds had left and had a party, so the kitchen was a mess again. All their party rubbish was put outside in bags, which the foxes then shredded up overnight. The landlord sent me photos of rubbish all over the drive. So he has charged £50 to clear it up. The cleaner has been in and done a thorough clean. But there is stuff left that he's not allowed, by law, to throw out. I can see one of the bags of clothes is ds's. So I'll see what else there is. One of the lads had ruined his mattress. The landlord said that will come out of the deposit from all of them. But the others managed to get the lad to pay the landlord directly for a new mattress. He seems quite a good landlord really. He's not charging for the main houseclean. I'll see what it's like when I get there. I did feel for the lad who took on the main contact part for the bills, him and his mum were there Friday morn. cleaning up. I couldn't get there Friday morn otherwise I would have helped.

boys3 · 03/07/2022 13:03

@LouisCatorze DS2 now saying 5th July which does make a lot more sense than 3rd, with as you point out that being a Sunday. As well as being today🙂

we at least haven’t got any worries over house clearing, fingers crossed. DS2 was last to leave his second year house, he was sharing with three girls, one of whom never made it back with remote leaning being an EU student. Apart from his stuff it needed not much more than a Hoover round and final quick clean of already cleaned areas like the kitchen. And yet the letting agent still held back just over £50 of the deposit as some parts were dusty. Seriously??? Although as it was spread across the four of them from memory getting back just £14 less than the overall £400 deposit was not worth disputing. Which I imagine is what the letting agent was banking on.

icanbewhatiwant · 03/07/2022 16:31

I visited the house, the landlord had had most of it cleaned. He was moaning because one lad who hasn't really been there all year came back and had a party once the others had left and made a mess, before returning home again, but hadn't cleaned his room out, so a few days later the landlord had the kitchen all cleaned, then the lad returned, so landlord was annoyed that he was making a mess in the kitchen again. But to be fair, the contract doesn't run out until Tuesday. So the lad has every right to return.

There was a table full of stuff. Mostly clothes, empty boxes etc. so I text Ds asking if any belonged to the lad who hasn't collected everything. It wasn't his. So I have brought it all home. The landlord was going on about a cupboard of stuff and the room still full, all belonging to this one lad. But I'm sure he will turn up to collect.

2 bedroom carpets might need a professional clean. Neither are ds's room. So that's annoying as we all have to pay. But the landlord says he will waive the rest of it. There is a cable on the drive that is coming out the ground. He thinks the lads should sort that out. But I'd say it's not their problem. It's the internet cable which was already there when they moved in. Anyway...what will be will be. I'm not going back again.

LouisCatorze · 03/07/2022 20:31

Hmm unless they've spilled red wine on the carpets, I'd have thought that professional carpet cleaning should be done regularly anyway and not be the students' responsibility. And expecting the young people to pay for loose cabling in the drive seems really OTT too, unless they tried to dig it up in a drunken frenzy (which doesn't seem likely)?

icanbewhatiwant · 03/07/2022 21:40

@LouisCatorze a bit of cable was showing through the gravel, then within a few days lots was showing, so someone had pulled it. Virgin fitted it, landlord asked the lad in charge of bills to phone virgin and ask them to come out. But he'd already cancelled the contract. So didn't phone. The landlord says they won't come out now that there's no contract. One of the carpets is in the spare bedroom which shouldn't have been used. But one of them kept letting his mate stay. There are white, hard, shiny dots all over the whole carpet. I'm assuming he kept spitting, the only other thing it looks like, couldn't possibly be all over the whole carpeted area 😳
The landlord said he's not having students in again. But I can see the property online and it doesn't say no students.

LouisCatorze · 04/07/2022 08:55

Oh dear regarding the cable on the driveway. It could have been an animal that pulled on it though? I would say that is a risk you take as a landlord renting out properties and having people swapping and changing utilities suppliers.

And as to the carpet, disgusting if that is what the 'extra tenant' was doing? Some people?! How on earth have they been brought up to behave like that as young adults?

icanbewhatiwant · 04/07/2022 17:38

@LouisCatorze Ds didn't like this lad that stayed. He rented a room in the big student accommodation in Norwich centre. But spent a lot of time in their house. He heard that Ds and the other lad were going to America so he phoned his mum, asked her to transfer money for his flight so he could join them. He then booked a flight. Ds told me he wasn't going to USA if this other lad went. I told Ds he had to either put up with him or tell him not to go. So he did tell him he didn't want him to join them and that he hadn't actually asked them. Anyway apparently the lad said "ok mate" and Ds didn't see him again. But to be fair Ds does often take disliking to someone. So I didn't think much of it. But the carpet in the room made me think he wasn't nice.

LouisCatorze · 04/07/2022 17:46

Sounds like one of life's chancers @icanbewhatiwant . Maybe your DS is quite astute?

GoldenRuby · 06/07/2022 22:15

Has anyone's DS/DD been given their official notification that they have passed/ their degree classification? Getting nervous here as the graduation FAQs say they can only graduate if results are confirmed by the 7 th July. DS has all of his mark modules so he should be fine, and apparently nobody else on his course has heard either, but after some trials and tribulations along the way he is really nervous.

boys3 · 06/07/2022 22:23

@GoldenRuby no news here, or at least DS2 has not said he's heard anything formally yet.

GoldenRuby · 06/07/2022 22:25

@boys3 that's good to know that DS isn't alone. Hopefully they will all hear tomorrow.

juicy0 · 07/07/2022 06:04

No news here either. I hadn't realised the graduation deadline for results was the 7th, DD mentioned yesterday that she'd heard it might be as late as the 14th

icanbewhatiwant · 07/07/2022 07:02

Ds sent me a text from USA yesterday evening. It said "I got my graduation results this morn" So I waited about 20 mins, nothing. So I sent a 🤷‍♀️ text, now to me that is a throw my arms up emoji because I was annoyed that he'd sent that message. But to Ds it meant a shrug and I didn't care. I sent a reply explaining, I then said I wanted to go to bed as it was 10.30pm here and that he will probably make me wait now. He said that's not a bad idea actually. That was it. I checked my phone every couple of hours all night. Nothing. He is asleep now. As they are 5 hours behind he won't be up until this afternoon here.

Ds knows he won't get a first. If he's got lower than he wants I think he'd have been upset and told me. So I'm assuming he's has the 2;1 he wants. His diss. exam results and essays, plus previous modules the grade falls in a 2:1 so it must be that.
