Oh no @icanbewhatiwant what a disaster :-(. What are the rules now for travel to the US? When's the flight (sorry I've forgotten - some time next week?). What an absolute PITA. Is it possible he's had it for a few days or did he do a test as soon as he became symptomatic?

icanbewhatiwant · 16/06/2022 17:05

He's having a covid test done in London Sunday afternoon. For Monday flight. It was a very faint line....so it's either the end of covid or just starting.
He's gone back to tell his housemates the bad news...his mate going with him may well have it too. He woke up with a sore throat so I'd say it's the start.

I had covid a few weeks ago (not been near Ds) I was still positive day 12. I didn't test any more.

LouisCatorze · 16/06/2022 17:12

Oh I really hope it's the end of it and not the beginning. Just typical, and that the friend he's going with may well have it too. Really hoping it doesn't mean they can't go on their long awaited trip.

Sorry to hear that you had it too. Are you feeling full recovered now?

Have to say I've got really lax with precautions and handwashing in recent weeks.

hockeygrass · 16/06/2022 17:14

I think the US dropped the covid test requirements for entry earlier this week.

icanbewhatiwant · 16/06/2022 17:20

@hockeygrass thanks. I just googled it and found something that says from 12th June covid tests no longer needed for USA. But they were given a list of places from the American airline to go for a test. I have no idea how we find out for sure.

hockeygrass · 16/06/2022 17:25

The US govt made the announcement out of the blue last Friday 10th June.

icanbewhatiwant · 16/06/2022 18:30

@hockeygrass looking online he will need proof of vaccine. But it's not working for him on his app. Mine shows my vaccines. His says he needs to verify his identity which will take up to 7 days.

hockeygrass · 16/06/2022 19:13

@icanbewhatiwant , he needs to scan his passport to the app asap and it should be ok within 24 hrs. If any of his vaccines are missing on the app someone should take his handwritten card to his vaccination centre and ask them to update the NHS app as they have the original record.

LouisCatorze · 17/06/2022 08:20

Hope your DS manages to get everything sorted out for his trip @icanbewhatiwant and that he can fly.

Have any of the final degree results started coming out yet? Seen some related posts on WIWIKAU (with results) but no mention of which universities.

icanbewhatiwant · 17/06/2022 10:06

@LouisCatorze thanks. Ds not done a test yet this morn. He still has a sore throat. He has updated his nhs app to show vaccines though. Will have to think what to do next if it's positive. He seems in no hurry to do anything about it.

Ds said all of his friends have had dissertation results. But his advisor hasn't done anyones yet. I said upthread that his advisor hasn't been very helpful. He met a girl the day they gave their diss. talks, she has the same advisor, apparently he never replied to any of her emails so she did all her dissertation herself. So he was even less helpful for her. They've both decided to put in a complaint together if they don't get the grades they were expecting. There's probably no point in complaining.

icanbewhatiwant · 17/06/2022 14:39

Having written that about dissertation grades. Ds just had his emailed. 66% which is good considering all the problems he had. So a 2:1 let's hope he's done well in the exams. He's not expecting a first anyway.

Ds did tested negative for covid this morn. Though not sure I trust the Tesco tests. I've got some flowflex tests here. So he can do one of those when he gets home today. He's phoned the airline and they've said no covid test needed now. So hopefully by Monday he will be negative anyway. I wouldn't let him fly if he was full of covid symptoms. Ds is trying to pack to come home for good. But the housemates are staying a bit longer and won't help. The place is a mess. So I've suggested doing his room and the kitchen, then taking photos to send the landlord. Then he can explain the situation.

LouisCatorze · 17/06/2022 15:57

That's really good on all fronts @icanbewhatiwant .

icanbewhatiwant · 18/06/2022 19:19

Ds1 arrived home today. Seems weird it's the end of his university life. The flowflex covid test I made him take as soon as he arrived was positive. So the Tesco ones can't be so accurate. So he's banished to his room as I don't want dh to catch it. It took them 3 days to clean the house up. But 3 are staying until 4th. So no doubt it'll be messy again.

Allfurcoatandnoknickers · 22/06/2022 13:36

Ugh. Daughter moves out of halls at weekend and me and OH have come down with Covid. No idea what to do now!
I’ve contacted the Accom office to see if she can have an extra day or two but I suspect that’ll be a ‘no’ 😱

Sluj · 22/06/2022 15:01

Oh dear, hope you are not feeling too bad. You are not obliged to isolate anymore so could you and your DH take the car over, get DD to load it up then you drive the stuff home? DD could either take her chances in the car with you or get on the train. Assuming you are not feeling too ill to drive, of course.

Allfurcoatandnoknickers · 22/06/2022 15:06

Yep I think that’s the plan at the moment- I can’t stay awake so probably won’t be me driving 😂 she’s passed her test but not really sure if she can cope with a four hour drive with her Dad asleep beside her 😂

LouisCatorze · 22/06/2022 15:09

Oh no @Allfurcoatandnoknickers hope you and your DH feel better soon. I would have thought that the Accommodation Office would be amenable to your DD staying in halls for another day or two. Presumably they'd welcome the extra revenue?

Allfurcoatandnoknickers · 22/06/2022 15:13

Yes I’m going to try that Avenue once she’s given them permission to speak to me.
i’m hoping they’ll let her stay a little bit longer

icanbewhatiwant · 22/06/2022 15:23

Oh no @Allfurcoatandnoknickers I hope you both feel ok. I had covid a few weeks ago but wasn't too ill thankfully, though I wouldn't have wanted to do a long drive the first few days. I'm sure she can stay a bit longer.

Allfurcoatandnoknickers · 22/06/2022 15:29

They’ve agreed to extend it so that’s good news 👍

LouisCatorze · 23/06/2022 08:46

@Allfurcoatandnoknickers great result, and hope you and your DH feel better very soon.

Allfurcoatandnoknickers · 23/06/2022 09:08

Thanks- the fatigue seems to be lingering! I’ve persuaded our son to pick her up on Monday so can relax a bit now!

LouisCatorze · 28/06/2022 13:19

@Allfurcoatandnoknickers how are you feeling now?

@icanbewhatiwant have you heard from your DS1 since he went over to America? Hope he's having a wonderful time?

Anyone know when the degree results come out (or have they already done so)?

Allfurcoatandnoknickers · 28/06/2022 13:29

Feeling marginally better thanks - son been despatched to pick DD up from Uni today!! A lot of her flat mates tested positive last week- she’s the last woman standing!!!

icanbewhatiwant · 28/06/2022 16:12

@LouisCatorze yes thanks for asking. He messages most days. He's in New York at the moment. Boston before that, Philadelphia and Miami still to visit. He messaged me today to say he's run out of socks and pants. Not sure what he thinks I'm going to do.

No idea about their results. I'm waiting to hear on here so I can tell Ds too look.
