@AFingerofFudge, I’m sorry to hear about your ds, but so impressed at the thought of him doing maths in French. That would certainly make him stand out to employers in future years. As others have said, if he is still set on Oxbridge after the initial disappointment has worn off a little, he could throw all his efforts into achieving the best possible grades and reapply next year.

DahliaMacNamara · 01/12/2020 20:15

Still a bunch of not yets on the invitation list I'm checking. In single figures now, at least, so I can see it's being updated, but come the frick ON.

bendmeoverbackwards · 01/12/2020 20:16

Oh @Revengeofthepangolins what a horrible long wait. Keeping everything crossed for you

Pumpkintopf · 01/12/2020 20:19

@AFingerofFudge really sorry to hear this. It is a rather brutal process isn't it, and hard to understand sometimes how decisions are reached. Your DS sounds amazing and I'm sure will thrive wherever- or, as pp have said, could re-apply grades in hand perhaps having spent a year in France. Odds are a lot of us will be in the same boat and it's so tough, you just want everything to go smoothly for our wonderful dc.

olliepolly · 01/12/2020 20:44

It’s a no for my DS too.
Onwards.
He needs a little while to process things.
We had a really nice chat over dinner about his other choices before we even knew.
Shame though as I really thought if he could sit in front of them at interview they would see how extraordinary he is ( I know I am biased but I do have 2 older daughters for comparison !)
The waiting is agony so do feel the relief of knowing . Good luck to all of you who still have skin in the game.

DeRigueurMortis · 01/12/2020 20:49

Sorry to hear that Fudge and Ollie.

I hope they are not too disappointed and are able to re-focus on alternative opportunities. Flowers

olliepolly · 01/12/2020 20:54

Thanks
We have to be proud he even tried and know from the Physics entry reports the odds of an interview were only ever 1 in 3.

ShredMeJillianIWantToBeNatalie · 01/12/2020 20:59

Evening! Late to this. Ds1 has just told us he has an interview on Friday for natural Sciences at Cambridge. Think he’s known since Friday night but obviously not a word to us!

No clue what his chances are. He said the exam was really tough but he’d expected that. He’s got other offers so fingers crossed even if he’s disappointed here.

Good luck everyone! I feel quite detached from the process as I know literally not a thing about science, Cambridge or (it seems) 18 year old boys Confused

Tenpastseven · 01/12/2020 21:01

Oh I’m sorry too @AFingerofFudge and @olliepolly. It’s so brutal isn’t it? But yes, I agree we should all be proud of all these DC for backing themselves and giving it a shot.

Tenpastseven · 01/12/2020 21:04

These kids are so brutal too! Imagine not telling you for all this time @ShredMeJillianIWantToBeNatalie and I think it was @bendmeoverbackwards too! Oh to be a teenager again. If they ever become parents we should remind them of this agony.

Revengeofthepangolins · 01/12/2020 21:12

Finally - and DS has an interview. Phew

DeRigueurMortis · 01/12/2020 21:14

@Revengeofthepangolins congratulations 🥳

My goodness you've had a hell of a wait for that news.

Really pleased for you and ROTP jr 👏

ChimneyPot · 01/12/2020 21:14

Great news @Revengeofthepangolins

They really kept him waiting.

Jano69 · 01/12/2020 21:16

Gutted for your DS @olliepolly - you and I were one of the first on the original Oxbridge Aspirants thread last Christmas. Wishing him success....

Jano69 · 01/12/2020 21:17

@Revengeofthepangolins that was worth the long wait....

ShredMeJillianIWantToBeNatalie · 01/12/2020 21:19

Tenpastseven he didn’t tell us about the other offers either. Been sat there feeling a bit sad he’d heard nothing Confused. He’s a very very introverted boy. In a normal interview (like for a job) he really wouldn’t come across as interested in anything. Which worries me. But he seems very happy with his other offers so I guess what will be will be. Good luck all.

amadeus1 · 01/12/2020 21:27

"you and I were one of the first on the original Oxbridge Aspirants thread last Christmas."
Ha- ha last Xmas dd had no idea what she wanted to do where. Thought of Oxford only 2 weeks before the deadline in October...

Anyway, as a "redirected" parent I should leave this thread Grin and maybe look for London

Knotanothername · 01/12/2020 21:29

Congratulations to all the latest interviewees. It’s taken 24hours for Dd to get over the rejection but if it’s any consolation to any others her school have told them oxbridge is interviewing less applicants this year, assume they know as her board of governors are Oxbridge governors. Her school normally send a large cohort to Oxbridge but they are receiving far less interviews this year.

It’s been a slog to get this far but wishing everyone good luck with interviews and hoping you do get to enjoy Christmas!! Will check back to hopefully see some happy news for the new year!
Dd is excited for LSE so it’s not all bad!
I’ve also repeated the mantra to Dd she has 5 paths to the same destination, just because one closes it doesn’t prevent you reaching the same end point, you just take a different route!
Good luck everyone, and to those that are still waiting Gin solves most things Grin

Knotanothername · 01/12/2020 21:30

@amadeus1 great idea,we are waiting on LSE and UCL hbu?

MidLifeCrisis007 · 01/12/2020 21:31

@Revengeofthepangolins

Finally - and DS has an interview. Phew
Woop. Glad the wait was worth it!

We know you do bright in your family.... kids, 6000 fairy lights etc......Smile

Pumpkintopf · 01/12/2020 21:32

@Revengeofthepangolins brilliant, great news.

Pumpkintopf · 01/12/2020 21:34

@olliepolly really sorry to hear this.

@Knotanothername - I love this -

Words to live by. Gin

goodbyestranger · 01/12/2020 21:37

Glad to hear about the invites and really sorry to hear of disappointed DC.

quest1on · 01/12/2020 21:37

‘Gin solves most things...’

I might be joining you presently!

Good luck to all the redirected DCs. This is just a point in time and once they’re settled wherever they’re meant to be this will be irrelevant.

Congratulations Revenge!! What a palaver.

Congrats to everyone!

Is that it for interview responses now?

olliepolly · 01/12/2020 21:40

Thanks Jano69 ( i really should learn how to tag people properly )
