Oh @bendmeoverbackwards that's such great news, well done to her

raspberryrippleicecream · 01/12/2020 17:02

Still waiting here!

bendmeoverbackwards · 01/12/2020 17:06

@Baaaahhhhh

bendmeoverbackwards That's such good news. You obviously hadn't properly explained that you needed to update your MN friends!

bendmeoverbackwards · 01/12/2020 17:06

Good luck to @Revengeofthepangolins and @raspberryrippleicecream

OnTheBenchOfDoom · 01/12/2020 17:10

@bendmeoverbackwards lovely though that she wanted to see your faces when she told you and congratulations.

@derekthe1adyhamster on Girton's website it says that CompSci interviews are using Whereby rather than Zoom and there is a link to go on once you are in receipt of an interview. It is for 4th December at 8am and is the last one. Has your son checked his email thoroughly to make sure he hasn't received anything yet? Sadly there is nothing on Girton's website to say when they are interviewing. Ds's college has specified all dates for all subjects so everyone knew when their subject was interviewing in December.

OnTheBenchOfDoom · 01/12/2020 17:11

Yes and good luck to @Revengeofthepangolins and @raspberryrippleicecream. Bloody awful waiting.

AFingerofFudge · 01/12/2020 17:30

DS has just had the email - rejection. I feel gutted for him as he really wanted it and sorry that he wasn't at a school that could have helped him a bit more.
I know I sound like a desperate parent but I take it there's no appeal or any other way of getting in??

chopc · 01/12/2020 17:35

Very happy for everyone with interviews and commiserations for those redirected. I think you can ask for feedback but it will be too late for this year. I personally know two stellar candidates with perfect GCSE marks, AL predictions, prizes who were not called for interviews. Only thing I can think is the pre test. But still - can't imagine them doing badly in the protest ...........

RunnersTipple · 01/12/2020 17:51

Sorry for your news, @AFingerofFudge. As far as I know there is no appeal, but your DS could apply again next year with grades already known. Congratulations to the DCs who have got interviews, and fingers crossed for those still waiting.

FlyingSquid · 01/12/2020 17:53

Sorry to hear that, AFingerofFudge. This all strikes me as quite a brutal process, especially for those essentially doing it alone. By the time the interview or rejection comes in, they're so invested in it all. Does he have other offers in hand?

derekthe1adyhamster · 01/12/2020 17:55

@OnTheBenchOfDoom i can't find this anywhere, can you post a link? we can't find an email anywhere, his form tutor says he should hear by the end of the week

OnTheBenchOfDoom · 01/12/2020 18:02

@derekthe1adyhamster

www.girton.cam.ac.uk/2020Applicants

derekthe1adyhamster · 01/12/2020 18:06

@OnTheBenchOfDoom It's fine, those dates are for checking your equipment works ok. But we have checked back through the emails, and it does say that unsuccessful applicants will be contacted by the end of November and interviews are from next Monday.

So an email has been sent to the admissions department asking to confirm
how he has got on :)

OnTheBenchOfDoom · 01/12/2020 18:08

I found that just by googling the college and "current applicants". Each college has their own version of that, some have a pdf with info on what will happen and when some have full lists of information.

I know the waiting must be awful but no news is good news so far, hold onto that hope. For interviews for Ds's college, all subjects, they were told to keep 30th Nov to 17th Dec free. So some of them are much later than others.

kitnkaboodle · 01/12/2020 18:09

sorry to hear that @AFingerofFudge No - I think the only thing is to concentrate on getting the best A levels possible and, if that works out, considering reapplying next year. For our DC I think that a year seems like an eternity, but of course we know it's not (apart from this bloody one ...)

bendmeoverbackwards · 01/12/2020 18:10

So sorry @AFingerofFudge it’s so tough for them. Has your ds got other offers yet? I hope it works out for him.

Revengeofthepangolins · 01/12/2020 18:12

Oh lovely news @bendmeoverbackwards

Crikeyblimey · 01/12/2020 18:18

Well done to all with interviews and fingers crossed for offers.

Commiserations to those who have been redirected. Hopefully (and probably) wherever they go will be perfect.

Keep the faith those still waiting.

It’s a bloody rollercoaster isn’t it?!

Revengeofthepangolins · 01/12/2020 18:18

And sorry to hear your news, @AFingerofFudge. I hope he gets some great other offers.
And as others have said, the key is to shake it off and focus on getting the best grades possible so as to help a second run next year if that is what he decides to do.

LaundryFairy · 01/12/2020 18:27

That's great news for your DD bendmeoverbackwards - now the excruciatingly long wait until January.

quest1on · 01/12/2020 18:51

So sorry to hear that FingerofFudge. As pps have said through, some courses are much more competitive than others and it’s not an equal playing field at all when it comes to getting an interview. What are his other options?

In other news, DS GF got an Oxford interview for medicine. This is after being rejected from Exeter.

Jano69 · 01/12/2020 18:57

Fab news Bend and Milly.

So sorry Finger.... it's horrible isn't it.

Revenge - are you still waiting?

AFingerofFudge · 01/12/2020 19:15

Thanks for all the replies. He has got an offer from Sheffield for Maths with French (4 years, one in France doing Maths) which he is very interested in so hopefully that will work out.

Good luck to all of you x

Revengeofthepangolins · 01/12/2020 19:18

My mind is boggling at the thought of doing maths with french. Indeed, maths IN french ! @AFingerofFudge !!!! Hats off indeed.

And yes, still waiting.

NiamCinnOir · 01/12/2020 19:58

Congratulations @bendmeoverbackwards!
