New Thread !

OP posts:

@Knotanothername

But some scholarship students sat the entrance tests much earlier and have already had their interviews and places confirmed, so guess anything is possible!
Only just joining this thread, but I'm intrigued by this comment; what scholarships do you mean?

We are waiting to hear about interviews along with you all!

DeRigueurMortis · 19/11/2020 15:56

So today DS has received a notification from Cambridge for a pre-interview assessment that would mean he needs to apply for a leave of absence next Wednesday (the assessment needs to be done at home due to the technology requirements).

It says it is NOT confirmation of an interview, rather it's a "pencil in the date" notification.

Somewhat oddly however, the date they have given to confirm if he has an interview or not (and thus if he even needs to do the assessment) is 2 days after the date they have told him to book off....

HuaShan · 19/11/2020 15:57

@BilberryBaggins I wonder if Knotanothername is referring to applicants who are applying as Organ or Choral scholars - I believe their interviews are earlier

That's not the case for choral scholars; their auditions are earlier but they go through the same application process as everyone else. Not sure about organ scholars, they might be earlier?

chopc · 19/11/2020 16:05

Organ scholars have already had their offers- I can't recall if places are confirmed or subject to AL results

BilberryBaggins · 19/11/2020 16:29

I think they are subject to A Levels according to the website.

Interesting that organ and choral awards are treated very differently.

OnTheBenchOfDoom · 19/11/2020 17:33

NatSci hasn't yet been called for interview from the Cambridge college Ds has applied to but I'd rather not say which college it is.

Two thirds of subjects are listed as being called already but Ds is computer science and his results from his test are not out until 30th November (despite being online so no marking required) but there may be adjustments for those who had horrific technical difficulties or were unable to sit it. The interview slot for computer science is over a 5 day period in early December.

I take what I read in TSR with a pinch of salt, I looked at it all last year in preparation but it seemed to be quite a toxic atmosphere so I stopped.

Knotanothername · 19/11/2020 17:48

Yes referring to organ scholars

Knotanothername · 19/11/2020 17:49

Who already have confirmed places

Tenpastseven · 19/11/2020 17:50

@DeRigueurMortis I’m sure they’ll let him know sooner than that, but that will be the deadline for letting everyone know including the unsuccessful applicants. Bit of an odd situation though!

It seems to me that the whole process is taking longer than they’d imagined.

DeRigueurMortis · 19/11/2020 17:58

Indeed - it's all getting a bit "real" in that I imagine we will know by Monday latest if he's got an interview or even possibly by the end of this week.

Tenpastseven · 19/11/2020 18:08

Yes I would think you will. Eeeeeeek.

BilberryBaggins · 19/11/2020 18:25

@Knotanothername

Who already have confirmed places
Presumably still A Level dependent though.
fabtasticmrpox · 19/11/2020 19:57

Dd has just heard from Warwick and an offer of AAB . She doesn't think she'll hear from Oxford till the end of the month.

Knotanothername · 19/11/2020 20:03

Offers here for Bath and Southampton but these are insurance , waiting for LSE as the back up to Ox

Knotanothername · 19/11/2020 20:05

@BilberryBaggins yes A level dependent but A* AA which isn’t as tough as some!

BilberryBaggins · 19/11/2020 21:22
**@BilberryBaggins* yes A level dependent but A AA which isn’t as tough as some!
What course would that be for? I thought most Oxford offers were AAA? But could well be course dependent, I only know the ones we've looked it iyswim.

sandybayley · 19/11/2020 21:33

@BilberryBaggins - AAA is typical for humanities at Oxford. DS1 (STEM) had to get A star A star A.

BilberryBaggins · 19/11/2020 21:46

That makes sense, we've only looked at arts/humanities.

Good luck to everyone waiting for news of interviews.

OnTheBenchOfDoom · 19/11/2020 22:32

Yes, good luck to everyone.

Eastisup · 20/11/2020 09:06

@Baaaahhhhh

Have any DC received interview invites or rejections yet?

No, but DD did just receive the now infamous heart attack inducing email from her college, setting out the interview instructions. Big notice at the top of the email verbage, but NOT on the subject line. This is not an invitation to interview

My dd had this yesterday too and jumped a mile Grin she seems to think she'll hear by the 27th if she will be offered an interview...still waiting to hear from UCL . Does anyone here have a ds\dd applying to UCL?
Pumpkintopf · 20/11/2020 09:41

Hi Eastisup (love your name, dd is a big twenty one pilots fan) - DS is applying to UCL, we've heard nothing from them.

Majaso12 · 20/11/2020 09:43

My dd is still waiting to hear from UCL and applied on the 24th September.

Knotanothername · 20/11/2020 09:44

Yes Dd applying to UCL, is anxious to know if she will need to sit another TSA as it says “ may be required” so far hadn’t heard anything except to select her language choice. Is applying for ispe

LaundryFairy · 20/11/2020 09:49

Another one waiting on UCL here - DS applied end of Sept.

Just to give us all encouragement, I was looking at the Times university guide this morning and it reckons there will be better opportunities at UCL this year as they normally have loads of EU applicants (likely many will be put off by the hike in tuition).
