Languages at St Andrews

Does anyone have any experience of a languages degree (likely French and Spanish post A level) at St Andrews?

We had a look online and the information offered on the course looks far more sparse than on other Uni sites. Unless I’m just not looking properly.

Does everyone at Oxford do the aptitude test @NiamCinnOir or only those invited to interview?

Oh I hadn’t realised you needed 2 MFL for Southampton. Interesting. There can’t be many people that do 2!

Everyone does the admissions test for MFL at Oxford, @Tenpastseven and they select for interview after that and the samples of written work have been submitted. There’s also a language aptitude test at the same time for anyone wanting to study a language from scratch.

Ah okay! Oh it’s all go now isn’t it. On another thread I read that Bristol seem to be giving out some early offers and both our DC have got Bristol on their lists! Let’s see if they are so lucky...

Yes, it’s looking like a few Bristol offers have been sent out already. It would be a boost to our dc to get an offer early in in the process. It seems like a long haul at the moment!

My dd has a Bristol offer (contextual ABB ) I reported on the other thread. She's so pleased. 🤞for those still waiting.

Congrats @fabtasticmrpox. Great news!

Can I be so bold as to ask if you would mind explaining the whole contextual business to me? How does that work? Is it primarily based on that POLAR/ postcode stuff or is it assessed more 'individually' than that?

It's postcode I think, or schools I'm really not sure. Her predicted grades are A * AA

Ah ok. I ask as DS has extenuating circumstances for his GCSE results but I think that’s different to contextual offers.

I’ve slightly nervously started a new thread given we were going off thread topic here. Please join me so I’m not a Billy no mates 😬

Hi there,
Dd is looking at MFL at St Andrews for next year. Any tips? What sort of predicted grades did those of your dc who got offers have?
If they are there now are they happy and enjoying it?
