...if you can use the mocks, then use the mocks but not if they're higher than the CAGs.

And hopefully on to university!

Great thread title as always.
I'm so looking forward to Thursday said no parent with a child receiving GCSE grades.

Adding insult to injury - student loan interest rate increase announced this week

Great title!

DuckyMcDuck · 16/08/2020 10:46

Is just 4 days a record for filling up a thread?

I hoping DS gets details of his accommodation soon so we know what he needs to take.

TheDrsDocMartens · 16/08/2020 11:00

Just adding this again

University 2020 :8: Use the CAGs, don’t use the CAGs...
Divoc2020 · 16/08/2020 11:02

Does anyone know if there was any discussion about the Ofqual debacle on any of the Sunday morning news programmes? I couldn’t see anything. Is Marr off air at the moment?
Also I was wondering what happened to the student whose father began the fundraising for legal action (was he called Michael Bell?) His daughter was predicted all A*As in a school which had never achieved those grades before.

LimitIsUp · 16/08/2020 11:02

Following on from last thread, dd has also been told that only one person can help her move in to Uni accommodation. There is no specific ban on overnight guests though ......

Railingsohno · 16/08/2020 11:22

@Railingsohno was half thinking about dentist but I'm not even sure if our has reopened here. Certainly haven't had a new date for missed check-ups. Are you thinking of DC having a check-up before they go away or do you mean finding one in university town?

Gymntonic · 16/08/2020 11:30

This is on here somewhere

University 2020 :8: Use the CAGs, don’t use the CAGs...
Railingsohno · 16/08/2020 11:30

@Gymntonic I’ve managed to book one here for the end of the month. Hygiene appointment and checkup.

Gymntonic · 16/08/2020 11:43

Thanks @Railingsohno. Optician and dentist ontomorrow morning's list

Ironoaks · 16/08/2020 11:45

Thank you for the new thread MillicentMartha

DS's university have said that they'll be sending some information out this week, including a form to submit preferences for accommodation.

Broadcasting House on R4 had a discussion which is worth listening to if only for the list of departments that refused to put up a spokesperson, ie anyone at all from Government, anyone from Ofqual and anyone from UCAS.
Lndnmummy · 16/08/2020 12:09

I wish I’d had parents like you helping to organise packing and dentist appointments! I came over here at 19, organised my own course, paperwork, accommodation, flights and bank accounts. In a foreign language. Not to mention all the little things like dentist and Tupperware boxes. I applaud you all. Your children must feel so loved and supported. Flowers

FabTab · 16/08/2020 12:13

Just wondering how all those ‘retaking’ A levels and GCSEs next year will affect things for current year 10s and 12s. The ‘retakers’ will probably be doing fewer exams and will have had the benefit of almost 2 years teaching unlike the current year 10s and 12s. That doesn’t seem fair to year 10s and 12s but you can hardly blame those who’ve lost out this year for retaking.

ShaunaTheSheep · 16/08/2020 12:15

Credit to @seedybird for the thread title inspiration!

I really hope Boris and Gavalar sort this mess before Thursday’s GCSE results. It’s ominously quiet which I’m taking as a sign that there is a lot going on behind the scenes. They need to get the crack covid team of Chris Whitby and Patrick Valance on this to talk sense to the little boys in power.

JufusMum · 16/08/2020 12:16

Thank you for the new thread Millicent. Place marking as we are away in Blackpool trying to forget about results, CAGS, Mocks and Gav.

Railingsohno · 16/08/2020 12:20

@Lndnmummy that’s amazing!!!! Yes I am probably overdoing it but it’s the last thing I can do for him before he goes off on his own. Bit sad really - he was going to be here for another 4 months but gap year has been cancelled. Mixed emotions but happy he’s happy.

ShaunaTheSheep · 16/08/2020 12:23

@FabTab, as a parent of one in each of Y11, Y12, Y13, it’s the Y12 is is most aggrieved at the moment. Has been studying at home since March, exams in September, EPQ to finish drafting, UCAS personal statement to draft, no uni open days happening, no concessions on next summer’s exams, more competition for 2021 uni places...and the only sibling to sit both GCSES and A levels. Sad Luckily he has his dream vacation job, so not all bad.

Gymntonic · 16/08/2020 12:23

@Lndnmummy I'll probably get told to stop fussing when I suggest booking appointments. The adrenaline hasn't quite worn off from Thursday yetConfused

KingscoteStaff · 16/08/2020 12:44

The dad mounting a legal action was on LBC this morning.

DS needs to get Meningitis jab and possibly MMR booster - I somewhat lost track of all his jabs once they stopped being recorded in that red book!

My current plan is to send him up with a basic set of kit, as DH will be driving up at half term (26th Oct?) and can take anything extra that has emerged as necessary.

Focus now is on DD for Thursday, who is bitterly muttering that DS has used up our family store of good fortune and left none for her...
