He is @Hoghgyni but I don't think that's what swayed him. It would be his insurance offer as all the others are AAA and their website says typical offers are AAB.

It's not Loughborough itself, I know it's a great Uni, it's the total left-fieldness of it all Grin.

MillicentMartha · 09/01/2020 10:30

wineoclockthanks that sounds like a typical teenager off the wall thing to do! 'Decisions, decisions, York or Nottingham? York? Nottingham? I can't decide...I know, Loughborough!' Grin

I wish DS would make any sort of decision between his top 4! At least he's ruled out one, but that one was supposed to be his insurance fallback.

In the midst of mocks here. Second maths paper (stats & mechs) was harder than the pure paper, apparently. Makes a change from 'It went well!' Applied is not his strong point, he much prefers pure. Computing paper, guess what? 'Went well!'

Better than here ‘I think I got about 50%’ But your predicted an A star? ‘Well we have done any exam technique yet’ Hmm should I be worried?!?

Oratory1 · 09/01/2020 10:46

DS logic is that on average students go up one grade between mocks and gcse and he went up two or three. Average students go up half a grade between mocks and A level so he can go up at least one. We will see.

mimbleandlittlemy · 09/01/2020 11:58

Oratory, I hope your ds's logic is correct. Mock results coming in here and we're a grade off predicted in each case so far. The BBB offer if Firm from Newcastle looking increasingly attractive!

MillicentMartha · 09/01/2020 12:11

At the school I work in, rather than DS's school, mock grades seem to match final grades, but most of the students do lots of revision, (grammar school.) If they know they could have done a lot more revision, they'll hopefully be able to go up a grade, or even two if they really did very little work.

DS did more work for these mocks than any before so they should be quite a good indicator. Slightly dreading results now...

The full revision juggernaut hits the ground running at ds's school from now onward, with Saturday sessions, Feb half term sessions, Easter holiday sessions, after school sessions... More results in today and not so gloomy, so he might get up to the predicteds once his own particular form of revision juggernaut also hits the ground (trotting).

Oratory1 · 09/01/2020 13:00

DS other logic from last night - I have a really poor memory (v dyslexic) so anything I learnt now I wouldn’t retain so I have to work intensively before the real thing ?!?!?

Oratory1 · 09/01/2020 13:03

He is planning full focus from feb half term onwards and thinks that will be enough. I’m not so sure but I guess if he s wring it’s not the end of the world - it just means the gap year and search for plan B will come in to play.

MillicentMartha · 09/01/2020 13:28

Working from Feb half term on sounds fine! I don't think DS is planning on anything until Easter!

Dd came home from her mocks yesterday stating that Physics her weaker subject had gone better than Biology her strongest subject... Which I think is good because she has a tendency to concentrate on favourite subject... Lots of sort of cheating going on yesterday where some of the girls worked out it would be last years Biology A level paper and looked up answers on the TSR where DC do a post exam answers review... Thankfully Dd used common sense and didn't take part because she knew it would achieve nothing...

specialted · 09/01/2020 14:11

I honestly have no idea how much revision DS has done for these exams. I guess we'll find out when he gets his results in a couple of weeks. Hopefully he'll get a small scare enough to motivate him to start revising from feb half term. He's a real last minute crammer which has worked for him so far but you just can't get away with that for A levels. He has politics mock tomorrow and is just looking at what the exam format is and texting his friends to ask what the source question actually is. I give up! Trying to step away and leave him to it.

MillicentMartha · 09/01/2020 14:32

oneteen we've had similar 'cheating' on some mock papers by students at my school. Totally pointless. Predicted grades are already in to UCAS. Mocks are supposed to help you and your teachers know what areas/styles of questions you need to work on. You and I know that, most sensible students know that. These DC are supposed to be clever...

DS has got an offer through from his first choice. He seems relieved to have it, though it is a high offer, as predicted. He is quiet and a bit stressed since Christmas. All seeming a bit real now I think.

thesunwillout · 09/01/2020 16:25

DD got a new lowered offer via letter today from Cardiff, instead of ABB, it's now BBB.

Is this normal procedure, it's a very nice letter !

AceOfShades · 09/01/2020 16:36

Oh Christ!
Sorry to barge In to your thread! DS has now decided he does want to apply for uni this year after all!
Is it too late?
He has a partially completed ucas statement afaik and he knows the course he want to apply for (In home town, so no accommodation needed)
I've told him to speak to college today and see what they say.
He meets the application criteria as he's already achieved distinction in his level 3 course and I believe they interview ( interior architecture)

Any advice welcome. Is the deadline next week?

specialted · 09/01/2020 17:30

@AceOfShades no it's not too late to apply, DS has until 15 January to get his application in. I guess if he knows exactly where he wants to go and the course etc, it's just a matter of him completing the ps etc and the school doing his references. I'm sure they'll do their best to get everything in by the deadline for him. Plus you can actually apply later, it's just that if you want equal consideration you have to apply by the 15th. Good luck!

errorofjudgement · 09/01/2020 17:43

Hi, yes the deadline is 6pm on 15th January
However, once you hit “submit” the application still needs to have the college reference added so you need to allow extra days for that.

Hoping your DS gets good advice and support today at college.

Hoghgyni · 09/01/2020 18:54

thesun your DD is making them sweat & they really want her! They'll send chocolates & flowers next week!

AceOfShades · 09/01/2020 19:59

Thanks @specialted & @error. I think his tutor is doing his reference tomorrow

mimbleandlittlemy · 09/01/2020 20:07

thesun - ds got the same thing from Cardiff the Friday before Christmas. Flattering letter with offer reduced to BBB if he Firmed them.

Ace - last year two people at ds’s school left it to 5pm on the last day for UCAS, and school got it in for them. I think they had anticipated they might do that and had written the references!

BackforGood · 09/01/2020 22:40

Sorry, not been on here for yonks and yonks, but got a quick question as I can't remember from when dc1 went
dd only finally put her application in at the end of Autumn Term.
She got one offer virtually straight away, but not heard anything from anywhere else (I realise they would have shut down over Christmas).

What I can't remember is, do they let you know if they aren't offering a place?
Or are they just all likely to be waiting until deadline day now to see what else comes in ?
Or ....??

MarchingFrogs · 09/01/2020 23:40

do they let you know if theyaren'toffering a place?

Yes, when the university makes its decision, Track will update to show what the decision is, either offer or rejection.

BackforGood · 09/01/2020 23:49

Thanks Marching
Just been a bit relaxed this time round and now feeling I should be more involved. We can't win as parents, can we ? Smile

thesunwillout · 10/01/2020 07:57

@mimbleandlittlewhy

Interesting to hear, yes dd's letter was flattering. I wonder if they all get them, or is it a little focused?
What subject is your DD looking at, DD is English literature and journalism
