@Millicent he’s teaching himself with a little help from a friend who is doing Maths at Oxford. I’m not sure how much help he’s getting or how much time they are spending playing games.

MillicentMartha · 16/01/2020 11:54

Well done, him! If that doesn't show the unis perseverance, I'm not sure what will.

FabTab · 16/01/2020 16:22

Does anyone know if the other unis can see whether you’ve had an offer and, if so, at what level? Also, assuming they can, does it make any difference to how they behave?

aibutohavethisusername · 16/01/2020 16:32

No they can’t FabTab.

FabTab · 16/01/2020 17:28

Thanks @aibu

Newgirls · 16/01/2020 17:42

Thanks for the replies about Edinburgh and St. Andrews x

That is indeed funny HunkyDory69! We had a lovely day out and I commended ds afterwards for being excellent boyfriend material having been so interested in IKEA.

MillicentMartha · 16/01/2020 21:34

So I bought the pretty crockery. After DS1 I know that cheap and cheerful is the way to go as most of it will become ‘communal’ and disappear either in other people’s rooms or at the bottom of the leaning tower of dirty, greasy washing up festering in the sink. And the only plate left will be the one with the big chunk taken out of the side that happened during a game of beer pong gone wrong. Wink

I lived with someone who didn't realise that milk bottles should be put out for the milkman each day. He keep a whole term at a time. Rank.

MillicentMartha · 16/01/2020 21:51

Bet he didn’t wash them out, either, Hoghgyni!

I think we will visiting Ikea come September ... I used to be incredibly organized but now I thrive on last-minute chaos...not sure whether I am too chilled or i just like the challenge of last minute.

MillicentMartha · 17/01/2020 11:38

Just don't do it on results day!

Edinburgh and Manchester have replied. Waiting on Heriot-Watt and Manchester Met

Notsureabouthis · 17/01/2020 13:21

@TheDrsDocMartens - we are also waiting from Man Met. What did your son/daughter apply for?

FabTab · 17/01/2020 14:15

DS has just received an unconditional offer to go with his A* offer. I’m wondering if he should abandon going to uni and take up poker instead as his expression on sharing the offers was identical.

Ironoaks · 17/01/2020 14:36

MillicentMartha · 17/01/2020 14:55

Love it FabTab! And what great news! Is the unconditional from a uni he fancies?

@FabTab, that's hilarious, well done him

SisterAgathaVanHelsing · 17/01/2020 15:09

These offer holder days are new to me. What are they? DS doesn't want to go but surely it will be really useful? He already knows what will be his firm and back up choices.

Hoghgyni · 17/01/2020 15:10

Can we have an Edinburgh here as well please.

FabTab · 17/01/2020 15:13

@MillicentMartha it’s from UEA. We’ve heard great things about UEA but it’s ranking for Maths is much lower than its ranking generally which is a worry.

MillicentMartha · 17/01/2020 15:18

My DS is only going because he can't make up his mind. VanHelsing. My DS1 went to two a few years ago as he was trying to decide which to use as insurance. They are basically a subject specific open day. Not usually more informative than a regular open day, if you attended the subject talk. Sometimes they may 'interview' you. It's a marketing thing, basically, they are having another stab at selling the uni/course to you. Not compulsory, nor necessary unless you want another look.

Hoghgyni soon, I'm sure. Flowers

My BIL went to UEA for maths in the 1980s! He doesn't have to decide immediately, he may get some more offers in the next few days/weeks.
