We have had another unconditional offer from DS's first choice so we are all sorted Grin, couldn't ask for better than unconditionals from both first and second choices.

Feels weird to know already when so many people don't even have offers yet Confused

His tutor is not delighted as he feels it may not encourage DS to work hard as there's no incentive...

Badgerstmary · 14/01/2020 17:21

Dd just received a revised offer from Portsmouth, an unconditional if she firms. She will not be swayed. Wish Southampton had given it to her!!

Ironoaks · 14/01/2020 17:24

DS now has four offers, which is great. One of them is a slightly lower offer than the other three, which is very welcome.

He is expecting to hear from the other place tomorrow...

MillicentMartha · 14/01/2020 17:25

An unconditional can be a double edged sword. I’m kind of glad DS doesn’t have that luxury! Wink At least he has to work hard at his A levels. Though I’m sure many students would anyway, you only have to be a little bit lazy to get tempted to doss, maybe?

I keep dipping in to the other thread, Ironoaks. Not long to wait now...

I know two with unconditionals and for both it's the very best thing that could have happened as they're both children with some 'additional needs' who have done incredibly well at school but can do without the exam pressure.
For mine, it would be the worst thing! He needs a rocket Grin

MT2017 · 14/01/2020 19:47

He's taking Law so would be utterly mad not to study. Mocks next week, can't believe how soon they will be leaving school for good Confused

Hoghgyni · 14/01/2020 19:59

Jufus we had a tree down on the road outside here earlier. I hope the weather hasn't thrown your DD.

Badgerstmary · 14/01/2020 20:32

I’ve just realised my last post could be read either way. My dd received a revised offer from Portsmouth, an unconditional offer if she firms. She has no intention of firming it. It is currently her 4th choice. She is an extremely hard worker & the toss up is Southampton & Exeter from which she has offers, or Bath, but she hasn’t heard back from them yet.

JufusMum · 15/01/2020 05:43

Millicent she failed with two majors, and held herself quite a pity party last night Hmm

JufusMum · 15/01/2020 05:45

Today DD is going on the train to Carlisle (we live in Northamptonshire) for a university interview. Her first train journey alone.
She doesn’t even want to go to Carlisle.
Figure that one folks???
#teenagers Confused

thesunwillout · 15/01/2020 07:54

JufusMum that is a funny one😁
Good that she's taking the plunge to get on that train tho.
My dd and I are doing Liverpool mid February.
I really want her to firm Cardiff but she needs to visit Liverpool before making decision.
I'm thinking Liverpool might win over facilities, it's so far away tho and DD mental health precarious.
I feel selfish but in reality it would be better for ease and ££ travel wise to be 3 and not 8 hours away.
But I'm trying not to get involved.
Arghhhh!!!

thesunwillout · 15/01/2020 08:02

@Hoghgyni sorry I didn't see your post on the 9th about flowers and chocs.
Do you not think these Universities should be sending then out to us😁?!

SoundofSilence · 15/01/2020 10:39

DS1 has received his first two offers for Maths with Stats, from Royal Holloway and Leeds. Both a grade lower than their published requirements, which gives him a bit of breathing space. I'm biting my nails waiting to hear from the other three. He's busy with his mocks and if he is worried, I won't find out until afterwards. He doesn't talk about things which are bothering him until he's out the other side.

MillicentMartha · 15/01/2020 14:32

They sound like nice offers to have in the bag, Sound.

OP posts:
FabTab · 15/01/2020 14:39

Great news @SoundofSilence we’re ‘straight’ maths - no offers yet. Which others are you waiting to hear from?

SoundofSilence · 15/01/2020 14:58

Fabtab he's waiting on Warwick, Southampton and Loughborough. What ones are you waiting for?

mimbleandlittlemy · 15/01/2020 15:06

Soundof - my ds still waiting on Warwick who have now been sitting on his UCAS since the last week of October.

SoundofSilence · 15/01/2020 15:37

Well if Warwick are still sitting on the early entrants, I'm definitely not holding my breath Smile. I think he secretly wouldn't mind if Warwick didn't offer so he wouldn't have to do STEP. It would just be nice to have them all in so that he can make the really hard decision. Which wouldn't be hard at all if Southampton offered and Warwick didn't.

FabTab · 15/01/2020 16:05

@Sound DS has applied to Bath, Birmingham, Nottingham, UEA and York. He has an interview with York and it has said they will make him an offer one grade lower if he performs well. He’s applying post A level (but is doing FM in a year as he didn’t do it in sixth form). UEA has asked for proof of his A levels which sounds promising.

Newgirls · 15/01/2020 18:40

Have your teens heard from Edinburgh and St. Andrews yet? My dd is applying from England if that’s a factor.

MillicentMartha · 15/01/2020 19:50

FabTab and Sound we’re straight maths BSc too! DS1 went to Warwick, so DS3 doesn’t want to follow him. Warwick standard offer is A A A or A A A with grade 1 STEP, and while he’s doing STEP for fun, he’s glad he doesn’t have to get a grade 1. It would be a stretch and A x3 would too!

He’s applied to Birmingham, Manchester, Nottingham, Southampton and Cardiff. Top 4 all with pretty much the same offer, AAA or variants. Birmingham offer holder day on Saturday.

OP posts:
Hoghgyni · 15/01/2020 20:45

We're waiting for Edinburgh. Dad has to get AAA for her firm choice. Her second choice also wants AAA if it's her insurance. She also has an offer of ABB, but she isn't very excited by it as it is very different to her top 2. She's hoping that Edinburgh will play ball and send her a similar offer eventually.

Hoghgyni · 15/01/2020 20:45

Dd not Dad!

Hoghgyni · 15/01/2020 20:49

thesun I'm hoping they've arrived in the post by now, along with some for you too!
