Isn't it typical our dc all want what they don't have? Dd has attainment offer from Birmingham but really wants Lancaster unconditional which he doesn't have whereas some of his class mates have Lancaster unconditionals but have no intention of going there because they are waiting on other unis etc etc. Shame they can't have some sort of swap shop!

specialted · 11/01/2020 08:40

Oops meant ds not dd!

goodbyestranger · 11/01/2020 09:04

He seems to have a golden touch HuaShan, no doubt about that - I just wondered if MAT had been released early for some reason.

MT2017 · 11/01/2020 21:18

DS only put his applications in this week, just had an unconditional offer from Winchester to study Law. How quick is that Confused it's his second choice so waiting on the others before making a firm decision.

As a parent, it has definitely taken the stress away (not least because it's within reasonable driving distance...). But we'll see. Fully aware he might change his mind!

StegosaurusRex · 11/01/2020 22:25

Wow! That's impressive, @MT2017. I wish Bristol would hurry up and get back to me. The wait is agonising, especially as o have no insurance option

MT2017 · 11/01/2020 22:29

Yes but @StegosaurusRex, am concerned that it was out of desperation Confused ie numbers are way down.

All the others have said it'll be two or three weeks for their decisions so Winchester was just really quick. How long ago did the application to Bristol go in?

StegosaurusRex · 11/01/2020 23:26

A few of my classmates have had very reduced offers back, but on a couple of forums, people seem to be getting standard or slightly reduced offers.
My UCAS wasn't sent off until the beginning of December, and I know they're just waiting for deadline day, but I want to know now! I'm not good at waiting

Badgerstmary · 11/01/2020 23:28

My dd received an offer from Southampton AAB today to study accounting & finance. She’s also got AAB from Exeter if she firms, & BBB as her backup from Portsmouth if it all goes a bit wrong. Still waiting on Bath & Durham. Has anyone received an offer from Bath lately?

Snozzlemaid · 11/01/2020 23:38

My DD's offer from Bath was the last to come through from her 5 options. She got hers mid-December.

MarchingFrogs · 12/01/2020 01:44

Yes but@StegosaurusRex, am concerned that it was out of desperationie numbers are way down.

But the university and course are still the same as they were when your DS looked at them and decided that he liked both enough to apply? Is he applying with way below the usual offer as his predicted grades? I suppose a quick offer, in those circumstances (especially if at the level predicted), might lead one to wonder whether there was something desperately the matter with the place. But if his predicted grades at at / above / only slightly off the usual offer, then I don't see the issue with having had an offer so quickly after applying. He can always decide not to use Winchester as either his firm or his insurance, if he is uncomfortable with the offer, or changes his mind about the course / university once he's been and had another lookSmile.

There's no rush, anyway, since he's got until early May at the earliest to decide.

MT2017 · 12/01/2020 08:37

Predicted grades for Winchester are in the asking point region, it was just such a fast turnaround (literally three days).

He's had another offer from Sunderland, conditional this time, at his predicted grades.

Three more to go - his first choice was Lincoln and I was reading an article yesterday saying they are nearly top of the list for unconditionals Confused

Good luck to everyone waiting 🎓

Hoghgyni · 12/01/2020 08:43

Badger the course at Southampton has an excellent reputation and is far stronger than Portsmouth. The Big 4 accountancy firms and their nearest local rivals will bite your DD's hand off with that one and she would be in a strong position to land a place on their summer schemes as well. Bath would open up opportunities in Bristol, whilst Durham would have links with firms in Newcastle.

Badgerstmary · 12/01/2020 09:00

Hoghgyni Southampton is my dd’s favourite atm, possibly because most others required AAA & Southampton required AAB. She had originally favoured Bath & Exeter before S’s open day but fell in love with it. She applied to Portsmouth as a fairly local safe uni but I don’t know that she will list it as one of her top 2. She is very studious, unlike ds who is currently in his 2nd year at Plymouth, they are soooo different! Good luck to them all.

Ginfordinner · 12/01/2020 09:47

Re unconditional offers
this makes interesting reading.

And this list is different again.

Which one is correct? It is so confusing.

tudorbuff · 12/01/2020 10:11

All the league tables show something different. This is the type of statistic I like!

Half of students get degree place with lower grades www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-50576198

oneteen · 12/01/2020 10:23

@ginfordinner....those links are out of date...quite a few of the Unis took the decision not to give UC offers this year.

Ginfordinner · 12/01/2020 10:30

I did wonder oneteen

MillicentMartha · 12/01/2020 12:24

They are both using 2018 intake stats. They’re different because they are comparing different stats.

The first uses the percentage of unconditional offers of those making the uni their firm choice, and the other raw numbers of unconditional offers given with no regard to whether they were accepted. Bigger universities with bigger intakes giving unconditionals will feature higher on the second list.

It would be interesting to compare stats for 2019 entries.

Badger, I have PMed you.

JufusMum · 14/01/2020 09:09

DD takes her driving test today. I’m more nervous than she is!

MillicentMartha · 14/01/2020 09:16

Good luck to her, Jufus. DS has registered for his theory test in Feb half term. He seems to have been taking lessons forever!

He's doing his last mock exam today and results are out on 24th Jan, then a grade card on 31st Jan.

JufusMum · 14/01/2020 10:12

thanks Millicent. Miss Negative has assured me she will fail!
Good luckl to your DS with the mock results, we have one and still waiting on the others (taken before Christmas).

oneteen · 14/01/2020 10:16

Good luck Jufus Dd.... Its a very weird feeling when you are no longer the taxi..

Dd also last mock today and results on Friday... She seems to be happy with all except her strongest subject....

FabTab · 14/01/2020 15:23

Good luck Jufus Dd - still remember my own test which was on Friday 13th!
I thought DS had finally got an offer when he got an email from UCAS headed ‘your offers’ but it was just explaining different types of offers. Will go back to biting my nails.

MillicentMartha · 14/01/2020 16:53

How did it go, Jufus? I hope it wasn’t as stormy as it it is here!
