Is anyone’s DC doing Eng Lit WJEC EDUQAS? And if so, how are they enjoying it?
DD (yr 11)’s school has just swapped from PreU to this and she was planning to take Eng mainly because of the PreU curriculum.

zzzzzzzx · 09/12/2019 21:45

DD has now had her first offer for Psychology from Exeter. AAA or AAB if firmed.

Lightuptheroom · 09/12/2019 21:47

Offers from Kent ABB or reduced to BBB if he firms for History or Military History and an offer from Aberystwyth of 112 UCAS points or he can take the 'Aberystwyth test and if he passes it goes to unconditional, waiting for York before making decisions

MillicentMartha · 09/12/2019 22:05

DS’s Manchester offer has come through as promised. Another AAA as expected. He’s got all his offers now and just has to make some decisions. He’s booked some offer holder days to help him decide. No hurry to firm or insure yet.

DD has not started her personal statement, as far as I know she doesn't know her predicted grades (she is doing her A levels online) she hasn't researched Unis or courses, and the only open days she has been to are ones I've arranged.

According to DD she has it all under control and other students are in the same situation, and spending her day watching TV is an acceptable way of spending her time......

Apparently I have no confidence in her for even questioning her Hmm. Any further attempts at discussing with her is met by her being stroppy

So, does anyone have a DC in the same situation?!

Lightuptheroom · 10/12/2019 07:46

Yes, until last week when he suddenly announced he'd put in the application! Worth checking the deadline which is in January as has she got to get a reference as well?

MillicentMartha · 10/12/2019 07:49

Who will she get her academic reference from? DS2 was at a pretty rubbish college and they took 2 months to do his reference!

OP posts:
sandwiches77 · 10/12/2019 11:35

Lightsuptheroom and MillicentMartha yes she has to get an academic reference too. Apparently the College where she attend in Y12 is going to supply one for her Hmm tbh, I'm sick of keeping asking her about it all and being accused that I'm either adding to her pressure or I don't believe in her. She is so stroppy about it all, and I've had enough

Lightuptheroom · 10/12/2019 11:39

Sandwiches, there's not a great deal you can do when they are like that, I was very lucky that one of my ds tutors gave him a good talking to and a bit of a kick up the backside, as he was getting very stroppy with me, in your shoes I'd just quietly arm myself with dates and facts (maybe check they are doing the reference) then you've done all you can

sandwiches77 · 10/12/2019 11:43

Lightsuptheroom I have reminded of the dates, not recently as I'm fed up with getting my head bitten off

Lightuptheroom · 10/12/2019 11:50

Feel for you, it's really hard when they decide your enemy number 1

mimbleandlittlemy · 10/12/2019 17:06

Sandwiches, might just be worth reminding her not of the dates, but of the time, as it were. 8 school days to end of term and, unlikely college or school will do anything in the way of a reference over Christmas, then assuming they go back on 6th Jan, 8 school days to deadline on 15th.

That might concentrate the mind a bit more than thinking of it as another month?

MillicentMartha · 10/12/2019 17:25

My DS seems to want to do the opposite of anything I advise. I’m tempted to use reverse psychology but I think he’d see through it. My sympathies, sandwiches.

Hi what happens if a uni doesn’t offer? Does that pop up on ucas track as a no? Dd just sent hers so not sure how long it will take? It’s quite a niche course

LIZS · 10/12/2019 17:57

You get notified of a decision either way on track.

Newgirls · 10/12/2019 17:59

Thanks Lizs. Are the nos quicker?

Sorry to sound negative 😬

sandwiches77 · 10/12/2019 18:01

mumble good idea, I'll try that, but not tonight as I've just been told so "shut up" as I'm fed of being the punch bag

Martha tempted with reverse psychology too but I think DD would see straight through it

LIZS · 10/12/2019 22:09

Not necessarily. Might be worth checking spam occasionally as some ucas emails end up there for some reason.

MillicentMartha · 10/12/2019 23:00

DS’s invitation to Nottingham’s offer holder day ended up in his spam as well.

Well DS now has offers on UCAS Track from 4 of his 5 and a letter from the VC at UEA saying he is so pleased DS has chosen then as one of his 5 with invite to Applicant day but no update from them in UCAS? One person in their UCAS office and 20 people in marketing we are guessing.
College was slow getting the form in but I decided the only way was to be that parent who keeps phoning them ( well twice actually but I felt a bit pushy). No one else has submitted a form from his group yet but I was getting impatient and DS needs encouragement! I ve been following the thread but only just got something to update with. Good luck to all still waiting on offers
Sandwiches don't panic if your form isn't in. DS1 decided on the 31st Aug not to have a year out so went straight to clearing and is now in yr 2 doing Science at a RG uni so places will be there later if they are needed.

WhoEatsPopTarts · 11/12/2019 07:01

Can I join? DD got her application in 10 days ago and got an unconditional offer from Newcastle on Monday. We’re waiting to hear from Bristol, York, Birmingham & Glasgow. It’s so unsettling this system, on top of mocks as well.

oneteen · 11/12/2019 07:49

Good to see so many new faces on the board...well done to the DC with offers...

DD still waiting to hear from Warwick (suspect it will be after Jan 15th) given she has applied for the Masters...last House Glee/Christmas dinner today ...term ends on Friday and then back with a bang on the 7th January with DD's first mock.

KingscoteStaff · 11/12/2019 08:20

Great news PB and PopTarts!

My poor DS still desperate to hear from Durham - his mates seem to all have heard on a Friday so fingers crossed for this one...

Lightuptheroom · 11/12/2019 10:14

Whoeatspoptarts - we're waiting on York, application went in last week

mimbleandlittlemy · 11/12/2019 11:47

oneteen - Warwick is the only one ds hasn't had anything from at all - offers from three, interview at Manchester in January but not a dicky bird from Warwick apart from initial acknowledgement. Not sure whether the endless "Why you should choose Warwick" emails ds keeps getting are irritating or not; I find them very irritating but he is a great deal more phlegmatic than I am.

Mind you, friend's dd didn't hear until May last year from them so they have form.
