Xenia getting them to work backward from the exam date , subtracting hols , friends visits etc to have a realistic timetable is such a challenge!
I don’t usually try to manage them at all but that is one thing both my twins struggle with

Xenia · 31/03/2019 17:27

I had a useful chat with one today. He probably will come home on Friday but needs to agree the date with his twin. So they will have a week at home, then a second week at home with their friend here and then their week skiiing in France with the university ski trip, then one goes back to university and the other flies for a week's field trip to Spain from home but returning on a flight to university.

The one I spoke to thinks he can do one of the 3 essays after skiing but the other 2 need to be done before then.

DS2 is trying to plan out his holiday. He has an essay to complete and submit and he had his first official communication late last night from Adelaide University with a check list of what he needs to get in place ready for the start of his time there.
I'm escaping to our caravan tomorow but he's decided he'll stay home and crack on with admin. We do have an internet connection on site but it is patchy.
He's getting the train down on Thursday so that he can take part in a pub quiz we regularly go to with one of my old college friends who is also his Godmother.
DH will join us for the weekend.
It's nice that he's reached a stage where he is not dependent on me being around. He knows I will help him if needed, but there are now things he just has to do himself.
Hope everyone had a lovely day yesterday.

DD went back on Saturday after a few pleasant days home having a break from revising. The weather was good so lots of walking.

FaithFrank · 01/04/2019 11:00

DD has 5 deadlines this week, then she will come back on Saturday. She says this term is the hardest she has ever worked. I expect she will be exhausted by the time she gets here.

latedecember1963 · 01/04/2019 11:44

FaithFrank, it sounds like a cosy bed and some good home cooking will be the order of the day.

FaithFrank · 01/04/2019 13:21

Yes I'm looking forward to cooking and eating with dd. Also looking forward to coming home in the afternoon and finding her still in her pyjamas.

Xenia · 01/04/2019 14:11

Well done to all those working hard. It will not be long until this year's exams are over. One of mine needed his payment for monthly bills (electricity etc) so I will do that now.

May I add toothpaste to this list?

I always seem to be squeezing out the last of the tube, and recently realised I have four almost finished tubes all waiting to be squeezed out.

Its that student who comes home and swaps her old tube for a brand new one in the cabinet. -

This time she was more honest. Her own toothpaste (or rather my new tube that she had nicked) disappeared from her flat, she thinks an overnight guest, and previous tubes were emptying fast. So she went for a special offer on Corsidol toothpaste, which she assumed no one would like. Immediate complaints from flatmates and it is lasting a long time, but unfortunately she does not like it either. She came home for mothers day and immediately regretted she had forgotten the toothpaste she meant to leave with me. I was sufficiently pleased with the visit and the prosecco and the visit that I took her to Boots for a BOGOF toothpaste purchase.

latedecember is your doing a year abroad? DTSis going to melbourne, that is if he gets his paperwork in order

latedecember1963 · 02/04/2019 15:25

Carriemac, yes he's got an offer from Adelaide. He only started getting official details from them yesterday, having had the original offer on the 7th February. He's got to choose which modules he'd like to study as well as working through a list of practicalities such as a visa and accomodation.
He seems happy to sort out things by himself at the moment and I'm leaving him to it because he's going to need to be self reliant when he's 10,000 miles away. We know he will ask for help if needed, whereas his older brother finds that difficult.
Our son is studying International Law and Globalisation. What is your son studying?

Horsemad · 02/04/2019 17:59

My DS is back, eating me out of house and home, brought loads of washing with him and is playing 80s music all the time!! ConfusedGrin Actually I don't mind the music!

Carriemac · 03/04/2019 09:53

economics . am gently prompting him about the paperwork, as I d like to get the flights booked asap to keep the costs down. What is your son doing about accomodation? DS wants to privately let not use the uni international accomocdation as apparenly is out of the way and 'no craic'

PostNotInHaste · 03/04/2019 16:35

Lurking with interest about the year abroad. Was with you all on GCSE thread. DD currently in first year of degree but will be hopefully switching to second year of language degree with mandatory year 3 abroad. Due to visa issues I think it has to be at a University so in the autumn will have to start looking at arranging that.

latedecember1963 · 03/04/2019 17:12

I just assumed he'd go with uni hall of residence to make life easy if that's an option. We're also conscious of the rising cost of flights!
PostNotinHaste, my son has arranged things through the Study Abroad dept at his uni. If I remember correctly he could apply to a max of 7 unis. He had to write a personal statement for each university. I think his deadline was Nov 2018 so he spent time after his 1st year exams and the Summer holiday researching places and courses.

PostNotInHaste · 03/04/2019 17:29

That is hugely helpful, thanks. She’ll have to crack on with it this summer then !

Haffdonga · 03/04/2019 22:05

@Carriemac my ds1 did last year in Melbourne. Great uni, great city Smile

Carriemac · 04/04/2019 06:50

Ooh haffdonga will need to pick your brains! Ask your DS for any tips about what to bring, phone contracts , accommodation , best flights etc please!

ErrolTheDragon · 04/04/2019 09:33

DD just called to say she's got an internship local to Cambridge.Smile and probably not for quite so long as last years so she gets some holiday.

Xenia · 04/04/2019 10:04

Excellent news for the Errol daughter. i sitll don't know what day my twins are coming home but as my central heating repair man just arrived for a big job it may be just as well they aren't home.

bigTillyMint · 04/04/2019 16:25

Congrats to your DD Errol!

Haffdonga · 05/04/2019 00:01

Brilliant Errol dd.

Carriemac, I've pmd you.

Xenia · 05/04/2019 11:07

Still not sure if mine are coming home today or at the weekend so am chasing them with a reminder about bringing their passports home too At least my heating is now fully fixed. Powderflush (not powerflush) solved the intractable problem.

latedecember1963 · 05/04/2019 13:02

Well done to your DD, Errol 🙂
