Hope you all find this - didn't realise I took 999! Whoops.

Hi @drinkofwater DD heard from Cardiff within a couple of days of firming. They sent over accommodation details and login to book.

booface · 03/05/2018 10:35

Lots of activity from Edinburgh. Accommodation firmed. My DS went for catered in the end, which I think was probably the right decision for him for the first year. They have sent lots of forms through...disclosure for fitness to practice, evidence of the work experience required, more confirmation of predicted grades, original passport and GSCE certificates. But it't good to get it out of the way before we really get near to A levels I suppose!

specialted · 06/05/2018 21:34

How awful!!!

SomersetS · 06/05/2018 23:05

Truly awful.

It’s on BBC breakfast now. It’s an absolute disgrace- especially to tell them on Friday at 5pm!

hellsbells99 · 07/05/2018 13:00

I understand that this is the ST3 year so most will probably be at least 30 I think. Which means a lot will be in relationships with families, so it also massively impacts on them too. It is a disgrace.

2B1Gmum · 09/05/2018 10:23

Really feel for those affected by the 'human error'... does that mean someone overseeing their applications pressed the wrong button on a calculator - who knows, very upsetting for all those now in turmoil.

On a different point I notice that Anglia Ruskin are advertising that there are places on their medicine course for September entry - there is a link to apply direct.

DD starts study leave end of next week, revision lessons now at school, mostly helpful. The geography department apparently have trip money left over so are taking the students out for pizza! DD cannot believe it, she says it is most unlike the school to be that generous - doesn't quite make up for the fact that the Iceland trip was not offered to her cohort - but hey she left for school with a smile on her face Smile. One chemistry teacher still not teaching, even in revision lessons where the students pick topics to go over, she just prints out questions and puts points on the board copied from the internet, when DD asked for clarification on a 'buffers'? question, she looked at her blankly and said 'oh, didn't you understand that point' - luckily another student explained it to DD!

Trying to be calm, buying healthy snacks and treats and showing her some yoga poses - which she finds amusing or annoying, depending on the time of day...

Good luck to all with revision and stress levels etc. I hope the sun has put smiles on faces...

booface · 09/05/2018 18:29

Good luck to all with DCs doing the IB. Hope it's going ok. They must be about half way through? I imagine it's almost better once they've started?

specialted · 10/05/2018 18:02

DD said a boy in her class got an offer from Sheffield today, he was on the waiting list after interview. He is over the moon as it was his first offer. I guess places are becoming available as people have firmed etc.

SomersetS · 10/05/2018 18:26

Wow specialted that is fantastic news for the lad. Fingers crossed for others waiting.

Well accommodation applied for, and student finance all submitted.

I feel so much better Wink

SomersetS · 11/05/2018 06:19

Student finance! Keep forgetting to remember.

Just waved younger DS off to take part in the Ten Tors Challenge on Dartmoor this weekend. Seems DC2 also has determination & resilience (but so far no hankering to do Medicine thankfully!)

We have made Julian from Sheffield a legend!! He has posted about us on TSR! So glad he is aware how much we appreciate his presence on TSR and the transparency of the application process. Big thumbs up to him!

nocoolnamesleft · 11/05/2018 21:36

Ah, was wondering where on here his "groupies" were. He's going to be insufferable now...

Movingmountains · 11/05/2018 22:48

He is an absolute legend as our DC would say! His was the best talk we went to and throughout the whole process there has been complete transparency. I am so pleased DS chose Sheffield as I feel he is in safe hands 😊
Just so hope he gets the grades 🙏

Minikew · 12/05/2018 10:08

Ha ha - his post on TSR is funny. Looks like other Uni Admissions staff have read our posts. I hope some will now review their systems and communications! They only get away with it as it's currently a "sellers market". Things might change in a few years with the new Medical Schools opening Wink

mumsneedwine · 12/05/2018 15:08

Wouldn't it be lovely if other Unis learned from the lovely Julian. Knowing cut offs, exact dates and being so open and honest with students was so refreshing. It is a tough enough process without all the uncertainty and the kids jump through so many hoops to get those offers. He chatted to my DD at her interview and she said he was very kind.

booface · 18/05/2018 08:35

Really hoping not to jinx anything, but the flights for start of term for Edinburgh were getting expensive, so have just booked for the 3 of us to go up and only 2 to come back! Seems very real now... Good luck to all for the revision and enjoy the weekend.

specialted · 19/05/2018 10:22

Boo face, was talking to DD about your DS getting a flight up to Edinburgh. She had big concerns about how he's going to fit all his "stuff" into a suitcase. She's planning on taking her cactus collection amongst other essential items. Presume you will buy duvet etc up there?? Otherwise hope you have enormous suitcases!

SomersetS · 19/05/2018 16:03

I still remember stuffing my Dads car to the roof at the start & finish of every term.
But I suppose "stuff" is smaller - no need for book & CD/Tape collections 😱, a TV, Boombox or Stereo System. Kindle, laptop, iPad, sorted.
Bet you've booked a case though!

OP posts:
Movingmountains · 19/05/2018 19:34

When we took DS1 the car was so jam packed he had a box on his lap for the whole 5 hour journey!

booface · 20/05/2018 09:49

Hmm I know about the amount of "stuff" they need to take...I think we will all 3 of us take suitcases and then fill them with his things for him!. And then run around Edinburgh buying the duvet, the kettle, the mug tree (do they even have them any more? that was de rigour in the eighties!) There is also a company called student moving or something that you can deliver stuff, so might investigate that!

Good luck to everyone for A levels. Let's just get it over with!!!

adrinkofwater · 20/05/2018 12:55

Well done booface for booking flights!

Am I the only one worrying about whether or not offer grades will be achieved?
