Hope you all find this - didn't realise I took 999! Whoops.

Absolutely not adrinkofwater! I go from relatively confident to absolute certainty it is all going to go wrong (as does DS). I even had a nightmare about it the other night. I’ll admit to being terrified of results day 😱

specialted · 20/05/2018 14:39

Am with you, confident one day then in a tailspin the next. Daren't buy anything for uni until results come out just in case. DD had an email from Nottingham asking if anyone wanted to take a gap year, I'm hoping it wasn't because they have over allocated places!! Apparently they do that every year but there is panic on chat rooms!!

Jon1970 · 20/05/2018 17:45

Has anybody had a date confirmed for the start of semester at Edinburgh? The UCAS system says 1st September but on the Edinburgh website it says 8th sep (with the exception of veterinary).

I need to find out as we have had a wedding invitation for the 1st September. Thank you.

booface · 20/05/2018 18:25

Hi Jon1970, I contacted the medical school admissions at Edinburgh and they need them there for Welcome Week which starts 8th September. We were confused about the start date too. I must admit I did feel a bit as if i was tempting fate booking flights, but they were cheap now, and I figured if it turns out to be not so good, the least I will be worrying about is some Easyjet flights!

My DS has chemistry practicals this week. Really keeping everything crossed here!

2B1Gmum · 20/05/2018 20:20

I am the same, been through it twice and I know I will struggle to sleep night before results. One minute relaxed and know she is able, next worrying about dreadful
Chemistry teacher and the lovely biology teacher vanishing ... Put on our brace faces, tell them we know they can do it and how much we need this next bunch of medics!👍

Jon1970 · 20/05/2018 20:22

Booface - thank you very much for the info that's really helpful. We are in Yorkshire so will be driving up (as long as she gets the grades of course!)...

2B1Gmum · 20/05/2018 20:31

Brave! They can do it!

SomersetS · 20/05/2018 22:08

Just as if relaxed post offers, now I'm getting more anxious about exams.
I believe DD will do the bed she is capable of & has worked hard enough for it. Guess that's all I can ask.
French oral done. Nothing else until after half term.
Good luck everyone.

Next exam Friday and DS went into school today - his choice - as felt would work more there. Going in again tomorrow.

Know he's nervous, and working as hard as he can. Think I'm feeling it as much x

SomersetS · 24/05/2018 17:52

Occupational Health form received from Leicester today.
Exam tension building & last ever day of school tomorrow. There will be tears. DD received a lovely note from her French teacher (in French 😳).

At my DDs school they are expected to keep going into lessons until the last exam is done, but as the teachers aren't doing revision lessons it seems a bit of a waste - I think DD would get more done at home and not have to keep moving rooms! I think that she has been quite disappointed in the lack of revision help and found that even her "really good" biology teacher doesn't seem to be able to help with exam technique which she seems to be struggling with.

Hope your DSs exam goes well tomorrow watfordmummy! DD hasn't had any yet, they start after half term. I do have DS in year 11 though and GCSEs are in full swing!

SomersetS · 24/05/2018 19:33

Ours start after half term & my DD should go in every day but similarly nowhere to sit quietly & study in free lessons do I have supported her in coming home when she has hours free. All the quiet places being used for GCSE exams. Unsurprisingly school haven't queried our behaviour.

My DS just going off to chemistry today. An important one! Not made any easier by the fact he was in accident and emergency last night for a minor surgery until midnight due to an infected boil that had to be dealt with by the consultant. He took it in his stride though. Good grief, I didn't see that one coming (note to self, keep an eye on DS underarms!!!!)

SomersetS · 25/05/2018 08:38

Yikes.
Good luck to all having Chemistry today.

adrinkofwater · 25/05/2018 08:44

Oh no! Your poor DS booface! I'm glad he's feeling ok now. I didn't realise any chemistry exams were before half term, different boards must be at different times.

I asked DD if she was looking forward to the exams getting started. She said yes - not because she feels "ready" but because they'll be over sooner one they start!

booface · 25/05/2018 10:59

Hi. Thanks, I'm not sure I would have been as stoic as he was! He had to drive himself down there and back as well and went on his own. He is doing chemistry Pre U, so that's why it's before the other boards I guess. That's a whole long story in itself ... a mistake that the school chose that exam. They are going back to A level next year. Hope everyone gets to relax a little bit over half term at least.

2B1Gmum · 25/05/2018 14:46

Booface, your poor DS and well done to him for coping with it, my DH suffered similar issues at that age, painful, annoying and bad timing for your DS.

As for PreU, don't get me started!!! DS2 got told he had to do Pre U History, having chosen A level with a view to possibly dropping it and carrying on with Philosophy. He got a brilliant AS Philosophy result (so more or less guaranteed A under old system as it was) but could not drop the Pre U. The school were initially predicting an M1 and told him that was an A equivalent. I did lots of research and even emailed some of his choices who said no a D3 (10 UCAS points higher than an A), is what they would be asking for. It took three emails and 6 weeks to persuade the school to predict a D3 - luckily he got it!

Madness and confusing for Universities/parents and later employers who haven't a clue. Luckily that won't be an issue with medicine - anyway all the best to your DS today! The one positive is that the school insisted that Pre U is better preparation for Uni... Smile.

specialted · 25/05/2018 16:13

Hope the chemistry exam went ok after that trauma booface! Certainly not what he needed but glad he's ok

biscuit2000 · 26/05/2018 08:33

Hope the exam went well for DS Booface. Pre U ???? Never heard of it! I don't understand why there are so many variants and exam boards!
DD exams start after half term but in mid flow with GCSEs for DS so tensions running high. Glad of the half term break and thankful both their schools have allowed study leave. Missing out the daily commute has saved so much time. It's a long slog - why make it harder for them? Good luck to all the DCs and mums over the coming weeks. @mumsneedwine - we definitely do 🍷!!!

booface · 26/05/2018 10:16

Thanks for the nice wishes. Chemistry was "hard" apparently, but then I guess that will be the same for everyone.. I know re this Pre U nonsense. Arm is still painful apparently but hopefully on mend with the antibiotics!

His school which is a state school, but likes to punch above its weight thought it would be a good challenge for them to do the Pre U... why don't they just stick to the knitting and do A levels that everyone has heard of, and knows how to TEACH!!! 2B1GMUM, sounds as if your school had the same idea..

Eventually we had to admit defeat and look for a tutor... that was nigh on impossibly to find as no-one knows anything about it.

But I'm rambling on.. good luck to everyone, especially those of you that have GSCE AND A-levels at the same time. That must be quite a challenge!

mumsneedwine · 26/05/2018 10:58

Wine has kept me going last few weeks. GCSE DD has done 6 and has 14 to go after half term. Started off so stressed about them I considered just saying forget it, but she's got calmer and now we can laugh about egg questions and banana radioactivity.
And A level DD is revising hard while planning the Zante trip post exams.

Good luck to everyone. They've made it this far so they deserve those As. 3 weeks 4 days to go til it's all over.

specialted · 26/05/2018 11:20

Mumsneedwine we are in exactly the same situation as you, DS GCSEs 6 down 14 to go and stress levels that started sky high and have come down slightly. DD working hard I think, they both have been on study leave since may 11th so have been off school for ages! Think DD just wants to get started now!!

Minikew · 26/05/2018 12:18

DD having a well earned break this weekend - Ed Sheehan tonight and an 18th party tomorrow. I am glad about this as they can't work all the time!

Movingmountains · 26/05/2018 19:02

Just want A levels to be over and done with now. Stress levels are a little better now and DS has st least slept this week and we seem to be over the stress-induced vomiting! DS much more relaxed as he now says he is as prepared as he can be and it is just down to exam paper luck now. Fingers crossed for all our DC 🤞

specialted · 26/05/2018 20:00

Yes best of luck and everything crossed for all our DC for the next few weeks. They all so deserve to do well. It's going to be a long and painful wait til August . Confused
