well done watfordmummy, moving mountains and mums need wine on the offers!! Brilliant news! Very happy for you all, hope you will be celebrating tonight!

No news as yet for DD on sheffield, although her classmate got a rejection today. Fingers crossed we'll hear something tomorrow.

muddlethro · 06/03/2018 19:24

Mumsneedwine and Movingmountains....Fantastic news, congratulations 🎉🎉🎉.
I’m afraid I’ve lost track a bit between those with an offer in the bag and those waiting!
Is this a first offer (and first choice?) for your DC? 🤔

SomersetS · 06/03/2018 19:29

Mumsneedwine & Movingmountains I am so pleased for you & your DCs. That is fantastic! Brilliant news.

No Sheffield news here this afternoon but Julian says it could take all week.

mumsneedwine · 06/03/2018 19:44

First offer here so been v welcome. Still waiting for news from Nottingham and Liverpool and a rescheduled interview at Southampton. Feel this whole process could be so much less painful if everyone behaved like Sheffield and the beloved Julian. V open procedure with exact dates given when things will happen.

For those still waiting I am with you in spirit. It's a horrible process and think the kids are all amazing to have gone through it.

2B1Gmum · 06/03/2018 19:51

Really good news Mumsneed, Moving and Watford and big well done to your DCs and a well timed boost as Easter approaches.

We are off to Hull offers holders on Saturday to see the accommodation and the brand new medical building etc. - we visited York for the open day. DD has found the penthouse suite!... seriously there is one... but she was joking about putting it as her choice. Besides as she has a planned gap year I sort of presume applications for accommodation wait a year in those circumstances - results allowing of course.

watfordmummy · 06/03/2018 19:53

@muddlethro thank you, I'm sure we will lots of questions re halls etc

muddlethro · 06/03/2018 20:04

Mumsneedwine, a first offer, that’s fantastic, and must be such a huge relief! My son didn’t apply to Sheffield, but from the comments on this thread, it sounds amazing!
Imagine you’ll have a great nights sleep tonight too...! 😀

Watfordmummy, would be really glad to help if we can....😊

Yestotallyunreasonable · 06/03/2018 20:11

Hello medmums (Put on one of my old names for anonymity.)
I was you this time last year. Oh god the stress! for me never mind ds. Now you're getting offers you've only got the small matter of A levels to go.
DS was lucky to get 2 offers and chose Sheffield. Seeing a number of your lot are clutching Sheffield offers I'd be happy to answer any questions about his /my experiences of it so far. (Mind you there will be plenty that ds doesn't tell me! Wink )

Abra1de · 06/03/2018 20:14

🥂🍾 to all whose children have received offers in this latest batch!

Movingmountains · 06/03/2018 20:59

Thanks everyone - we are so delighted. DS loved Sheffield so is super pleased. Think he will choose over Bristol. Just have to wait for Liverpool now. However no stress now for the moment at least. But ....... there is the small!!! Matter of getting those grades 😓

adrinkofwater · 06/03/2018 21:06

Great news mumsneedwine and movingmountains! So happy for you!

mumsneedwine · 06/03/2018 21:06

Might see you in Sept movingmountains as was DDs favourite too. There's a Facebook holder offer group thing apparently which is currently all girls. I'm sure your DS will be v popular if he joins 😁.

SomersetS · 06/03/2018 22:16

2B1G the new halls at Hull (the penthouse has a roof terrace with outdoor table & chairs !!) Courtyard (?) are lovely. I commented that even I would stay there! And SO cheap. The older onsite accommodation also very nice. The student "street" behind good too. We were told that the popular offsite Lawns accommodation not suitable for bed students because their terms too long. The new med building fab. Hope you love it. It's all in a nice part of the city. We registered for York offer day (24/3) but not sure if we will go. Leicester is17th - I didn't go to interview so interested to see it.

2B1Gmum · 06/03/2018 22:51

Thanks Somerset, I am looking forward to visiting another UK city that I haven't visited before. York was third time for me, it is beautiful though. I do like the whole feel of HYMS as a medical school - we are waiting on news from the other two still, but if this is DDs only offer still thrilled to have got this far - it is an offer and from a course that I think will suit her. Her friend and Head Girl has had one rejection and no offers so far - she was my prediction for at least two offers!

So Leicester is taking preference over York for your DD? I think it is a bit like house hunting... . Have a list of what you think you want but your heart needs to be in it too. I haven't visited but hear good things about Leicester for medicine and related degrees.

booface · 07/03/2018 08:08

Lovely to hear about all the offers and plans starting to take place. We are off to Edinburgh offer holders day in a few weeks. It's my Ds's preference over Southampton at the moment. Still no news from Newcastle or Bristol after interviews. I guess they are waiting until people reject and then they offer? Is that how they manage their numbers?

Sorry to hear of those who haven't been so lucky in offers. Their DCs are so lucky to have such supportive and sensible and strong parents. With values like that, which they undoubtably have inherited, they will have a wonderful career whichever journey they go on.

adrinkofwater · 07/03/2018 09:46

Not wanting to put a dampener on all the good news, but I am starting to panic about Chemistry.

For year 12 DD had 2 teachers - 1 good and 1 great. At the end of the year the good one went on maternity leave and was replaced by another chemistry teacher already at the school who is "nice but useless at explaining things". Around October half term the great teacher was off sick for quite a while and then eventually they were told he was leaving (although he came back for a couple of weeks first). He was eventually replaced by Mr E, who was "OK". Yesterday DD told me that Mr E had been off for a few weeks and they had been told he wouldn't be returning (due to ill health). So now they don't have a teacher for half the lessons as apparently Mr nice but useless at explaining things is the only A level Chemistry teacher at the school! Hence my panic! Not sure that the school will be able to suddenly get in a new teacher at short notice, but feel that it is a critical time for them to be without a teacher. Has anyone used any online stuff, or no if "Snaprevise" is worth it. It keeps appearing on my fb, but I can't quite work it out.

muddlethro · 07/03/2018 11:58

adrinkofwater, the process for getting in to med school iis such a marathon with a series of hurdles isn’t it...! We wait anxiously for the offer(s), experience brief relief when one is received, and then we move on to the next hurdle, the grades!
My son was fortunate to have excellent chemistry teachers, but he did find the CGP books (not the simple ones) very useful. Also, do you know of any private tutors...🤔

Movingmountains · 07/03/2018 14:11

Adrinkofwater - I found a physics tutor on tutorhunt website. Hodder do revision webinars for science - my DS is doing a biology one tonight. They are not cheap £110 plus vat but if you can find other students you can share the cost - they just watch online. they mostly run after school. www.hoddereducation.co.uk/Science
They are run by examiners and teachers so do tend to be useful. There are several chemistry ones.

SomersetS · 07/03/2018 15:00

Adrinkofwater OMG!
On top of looking for my own options I would be in the Headteacher's office, banging on the desk today & insisting that before the week is out they have a plan including assessment of where the students are & catch up lessons for Year 13 now & over Easter - paid for by them if necessary.
I would go to the Governors too.

We had a less significant but slightly similar position with Biology between Yr 12 & 13. It was eventually mostly resolved by me & DH talking to the school over first 3 weeks Sept term.

Are you near a Uni? Could you call them & ask if they can help with tutoring? There might be students?

SomersetS · 07/03/2018 17:54

Julian just said ALL Sheffield were processed today and that UCAS will update at 18.01. Tea might be slightly late this evening - one way or the other. I have to say their transparency is fantastic. Simples. Even "wait lists" have been emailed yesterday or today.
Fingers crossed.

specialted · 07/03/2018 18:22

Offer from Sheffield tonight for DD!! Soo happy! Have withdrawn from Birmingham and Bristol now as she has her top two offers. Phew, no more relentless checking of TSR!

Abra1de · 07/03/2018 18:27

Wow, special, that’s amazing!

SomersetS · 07/03/2018 18:35

Congrats!
Offer from Sheffield here too. Astonished.
Just waiting on Liverpool now which is probably 2nd choice.
Phew.

Woodenhillmum · 07/03/2018 18:40

So lovely to hear about all these offers Smile

specialted · 07/03/2018 18:42

well done to DD Somerset! Great news! Will be having a glass of wine tonight to toast our DD's!
