Wow I've just caught up & I'm so so sorry to hear your news movednorth & baytreemum. Oh to be a fly on the wall in the admissions office & interviews. It's so hard to understand how they make their choices? I wish we could see.
I so so hope that your DDs can still find the will to be motivated & show everyone what they really can do on results day. Sending you virtual hugs. At least here we can truly understand what you & your DCs have been through to get to this point. Thanks

Flatcoatfan all I can say is wow. How inspirational is your DD. It's stories like that which should give everyone hope. Thank you for posting.

Baytree, Movednorth and others waiting and worrying... sorry to hear and mn hugs.

I got chatting to a couple yesterday who told me their DD studied Psychology at Bristol before deciding she wanted to study medicine, she went to Warwick post grad and loved it, she loves her job too. Her mother said, 'not everyone does and I make a point of telling everyone, she earns £12.80 per hour, which is about what my neighbour pays her cleaner'. She was still very proud and happy her daughter chose to follow her dreams and be a doctor, even though it was the longer route to it, just a bit frustrated about the pay!

My sons hand surgeon studied Neuroscience before post grad medicine and is now one of London's top hand surgeons.

Determination and belief, and maybe some frantic phone calls for clearing places.

I'm so sorry to hear that Movednorth and Baytreemum. I know for certain that last year there were places at a few universities after results day and really quite a lot at Sheffield. Some students I know, friends of my son, who got good results were tearing around the country taking interviews. Also even if they don't get in then, so many of them do get in the following year, if they have the grades. Many universities prefer them. Cardiff does, for instance.

I know one graduate doctor, aged about 30, who didn't get the grades but who spent her gap year as a health care assistant and re-sat. She got in the following year. So it isn't the end of the road.

movednorth · 05/03/2018 11:34

Thanks everyone x DD is being amazingly mature and level headed about it all. She is taking the lead, making phone calls, weighing up the options. We shall see. Best wishes to all the rest of you, though, for exciting times to come - really!!

pixelchick10 · 05/03/2018 16:20

Movednorth and Baytree we were there last year - one iv at Cardiff and just an email about calling on results day if she got three As - she got 3 A*s and is now a first year med student it can come good! I know that awful feeling though - all the best, get your DCs to ace their results and show em!!

I understand how much of a setback rejections seem particularly for DCs who are not used to failure and comfortably meet the academic standards TBH though it is a good test of resolve and dedication. Many bright DCs think they want to be doctors but actually end up by being pleased that they did not get a place and switched to something else. Sometimes that is what is sensed by the interviewers. Those who are likely to stay the course for a career in medicine are not put off by a year or more delay to becoming a doctor.

Movingmountains · 06/03/2018 11:41

Rejection emails starting to go out for Sheffield - we are a very nervous household!!!

SomersetS · 06/03/2018 11:48

Us too movingmountains. Thankfully we have Leicester.
Good luck & fingers crossed.

Movingmountains · 06/03/2018 12:08

Good luck to you SomersetS - we also have Bristol but I know he would rather have Sheffield (or Liverpool) - though he's grateful to have anything!

specialted · 06/03/2018 12:18

good luck for sheffield everyone! Casually texted DD to see if she'd got any emails from Sheffield yet but nothing so far. She would like Sheffield as her insurance then we can move on from this whole exhausting situation! So very thankful we have an offer at all. Still nerve wracking though.

2B1Gmum · 06/03/2018 12:26

Good luck to those waiting for Sheffield emails and to those waiting on Liverpool, tsr rumour it will be 29th March (at the latest) because of Easter holidays this year. Nothing from UEA yet either... maybe this week or beginning of next?

SomersetS · 06/03/2018 12:58

Yes we waiting Liverpool too. Think DD would like them as insurance if that lucky. Seems so long since Oct 15th!

watfordmummy · 06/03/2018 17:54

We have an offer, came through this afternoon, from St Andrews.

Obviously now has to get the grades but so proud.

pixelchick10 · 06/03/2018 18:00

Baytree yes really! She had a job lined up to work in a care home and reapply - then off she went to med school! Quite a shock for us - we thought she was going to be at home another year. Best of luck to you and your DC whatever they decide to do x

pixelchick10 · 06/03/2018 18:02

Oh yes the condition of being on the waiting list was that she wasn’t holding any other offers which she wasn’t

adrinkofwater · 06/03/2018 18:05

Fab news watfordmummy! You must be so happy Smile

SomersetS · 06/03/2018 18:11

Congratulations watfordmummy! Such a relief I'm sure & yes be very proud. Another ✅

muddlethro · 06/03/2018 18:28

Watfordmummy, huge congratulations , and now you can begin to breathe again!! My son is in his first year at St. Andrews and is loving it! Any questions, please ask, and with his help , I’ll try to answer them...! 😀🎉🎉🎉

Movingmountains · 06/03/2018 18:31

Congratulations! Such great news. St Andrews is lovely.

Stevie3 · 06/03/2018 18:53

Congratulations watfordmummy - fantastic news for you and DS - St Andrews is a fab place 🎉🎉

Movingmountains · 06/03/2018 18:56

More good news - DS got an offer from Sheffield. We are over the moon as he was really unwell when he did the interview. For those waiting for Sheffield there was no email to say it had updated on track.

mumsneedwine · 06/03/2018 18:59

Mine got Sheffield too !!!! First interview way back in December which she thought she'd mucked up. I am so happy for her. Still waiting for 2 and an interview still to go but frankly don't care now

Minikew · 06/03/2018 19:06

Congratulations to all - finally some good news!
