Great news sunflower!! Hope you will be celebrating tonight

Good luck to those with upcoming interviews. I know Bristol have just given out a batch for mid march. I can't imagine we'll hear anything back from them offer wise until April at the earliest. A long wait from interview at the start of december. Sort of makes me think DD wasn't good enough so they need to interview more! Think we have given up on bristol tbh, plus it is her fourth choice if she should get an offer. Bit too far from home.

swingofthings · 17/02/2018 12:44

Congratulations on all the recent offers and fingers still cross for all those still waiting, and rejections at the back of the mind, still keeping hopeful whilst managing to remain focus on their studies. What amazingly resilient kids they are.

Specialted, DD still hasn't heard from Bristol one way or the other! She had the 'still considering email' about a month ago I think. I understand the last batch of interviews has started to go out, along with a batch of rejections, but clearly still some in that maybe list! I think this year they've decided to wait until all were interviews to start giving offers.

It doesn't matter much to DD has she has moved on and at this stage, even if she was invited to an interview, depending on the date, she might even forget about it. She is fully focused on her A levels now, so Bristol has become a bit irrelevant. It's a pity as I would have liked to go and visit and get a feel of why it is such a popular choice.

proudwhatever · 17/02/2018 14:51

Pre interview rejection from Birmingham last night, DC not surprised and a bit beyond caring at this stage as mocks looming, just waiting now for UEA and Lancaster offers/rejections in March soon the application process will all be over, a v long six months for everyone. Congratulations to all with offers and fingers crossed for those DCs still waiting.

movednorth · 17/02/2018 14:59

Congratulations to your DC sunflower1209. We're still waiting for news from Edinburgh. Can't work out whether there are still rejections to come, or whether this is now the offer stage.

sunflower1209 · 17/02/2018 15:12

Hello all.
As offers and rejections are rolling in, I thought I'd drop a link to this Youtube channel ran by a current Cambridge medical student, that DD has found very useful during her application. In particular, his most recent video about not receiving any offers and not giving up.

Good luck to anyone who is still waiting to hear.

adrinkofwater · 17/02/2018 17:22

Congratulations sunflower! A nice weekend for youSmile. Hope you don't have to wait too much longer movednorth.

Abra1de · 17/02/2018 17:29

Congrats sunflower

Fingers crossed for those still waiting.

SomersetS · 17/02/2018 17:48

Surprise weekend in Vienna for DDs birthday as she didn't want a party. Spanish Rising School etc.
Lovely weekend with no thought of medicine, interviews or uni's.
Fingers crossed Lonicera. Think DD will choose Leicester so hope you there too!
Sunflower, Edinburgh. Fantastic.

muddlethro · 17/02/2018 17:49

Huge congratulations sunflower1209... 🎉 😊. Thinking of all those still waiting for an offer, and hoping you’ll all hear good news very soon...😊

Movingmountains · 17/02/2018 18:28

2B1GMum - I didn't realise your DD had her interview on Thursday - for some reason I thought she'd already had it. I hope it went well. We had the free tea and cake - it was nice and also enjoyed wandering round the museum. It is a long wait now. My DS had first interview on 23rd November - seems like a lifetime away

Movingmountains · 17/02/2018 18:33

Congrats on Edinburgh offer sunflower. Specialted my DS feels same about Bristol - also was his fourth choice (though now 3rd due to Nottingham rejection) - I'm not sure why it is so popular. Accommodation is very expensive there as well. Although he would take offer from anywhere at present!

sunflower1209 · 17/02/2018 19:56

Thank you for all your kind words Smile

booface · 18/02/2018 09:25

Hi again, back from our little break. Hope all Ds and Dds have had a good half term and maybe a bit of a rest, at least from school every day etc. My DS was lucky enough to receive an Edinburgh offer yesterday, a bit of a surprise on a Saturday. It's his current preferred choice, although it's pretty far from us (tbh I think that may be part of the attraction!).

Good luck next week to all waiting on offers. I would imagine post half term they will be getting on with it before too long.

muddlethro · 18/02/2018 10:08

Congratulations to your DS bootface, and what a lovely surprise to receive on a Saturday... 😊🎉

specialted · 18/02/2018 10:57

Great news boo face! congratulations to DS!

Mocks start for DD next week, tbh think is a welcome distraction from talking about medicine! Biology seems to be her hardest one, so glad her offer is AAA not A*AA as that would load the pressure on for her. Hoping she does well enough to feel happy but not so well that she takes her foot off the pedal. We're never happy are we???

movednorth · 18/02/2018 11:06

Booface, congratulations to your DS. We're hoping they still have some offers left in the bag up there (and no more rejections!).

2B1Gmum · 18/02/2018 11:07

Congrats sunflower and booface - such a lovely city to study in.

Yes Movingmountains DD booked one of the last slots for her interview to be in half term which worked well. She seemed positive about most of it, just one station she said she took a while to get going and thinks it showed. They seemed to have quite a few slots per day and by the time hers came round they were a bit disorganised, all the interviews started 30 mins late - but she was out on time with no info about when they would hear either way - so I imagine late March.
DDs mocks are really late, not sure if that is good or bad - but with you Specialted, extra pressure of A* would not be fun, been through it before with DS2 when it backfired; also DD's school is very cautious about predictions as it is only the third year of A levels. I agree also, well enough not to knock confidence but not so well that they relax. DD has warned me already they always mark harshly so not to expect too much?! I might turn into an annoying nagging mum, just for a few months....

muddlethro · 18/02/2018 11:43

Sorry about the typo booface...!! 😩

SuePine · 18/02/2018 12:50

I contacted Anglia Ruskin Medical School, purely out of interest. They will hear in March whether they have got the accreditation to go ahead with the course in September and how many places they can offer. They then expect to start interviewing in May and will carry on right up until August if necessary.

Woodenhillmum · 18/02/2018 13:00

So exciting to hear of all these offers.Thinking of all those waiting at the moment , plenty more offers to be had yet one way or another but very tough to be holding on so long .Interesting to hear about Anglia Ruskin , possibly especially helpful to local candidates from what I read before .

SuePine · 18/02/2018 13:25

The ARU website states that additional "shortlisting points" will be awarded to candidates from East Anglia and certain NE London Boroughs, with maximum points to those whose address is Essex.

Stevie3 · 18/02/2018 14:21

Lovely news booface and sunflower - congratulations, hope next week brings some good news for you too movednorth 🤞🤞. Hope everyone's enjoyed half term, I see some lovely trips mentioned: Somerset Vienna is on my to do list! Keeping fingers crossed for everyone, seem to be offers dripping in here and there 😊

booface · 18/02/2018 15:03

Hi All, thanks for the nice messages. I really hope good E'boro news comes your way next week movednorth. And for everyone else waiting on various news. It all seems a bit haphazard. My DS heard via UCAS update, no e-mail from the uni. Good luck for back to school everyone.

specialted · 19/02/2018 19:00

I see a few offers coming through on tsr for bristol. Really not holding our breath for anything. Not sure how many they'll give out right now.

goodbyestranger · 19/02/2018 19:07

Bristol have been giving out offers for months - at least I know of some offers given way back in January for entry 2018.
