Grin at the dog cushion. I might get one for myself DS.

Santander is just down the road so if we can't get any sense from Nationwide we will pop in there.

Horsemad · 30/08/2017 19:52

I got a photo cushion of our cat for DS1 for one of his Xmas presents the year he went to uni.

They are lovely Smile

Shewhositsbythesea · 30/08/2017 20:25

Re Nationwide - you are probably using this anyway, but just in case. My eldest opened a student account this week. He needed the 4 digit UCAS code which he found on a UCAS newsletter. He had to search his emails to find it.

BestIsWest · 30/08/2017 20:47

Yes Shewhosits, he's got the 4 digit code - he had enough trouble getting that in the first place as he'd deferred his place from last year and didn't get sent another email this year and of course last year's code wouldn't work.
Anyway, he has the right code now (after several calls to UCAS) - but it still doesn't work.

Horsemad · 30/08/2017 20:52

Don't think they asked for the code when DS was trying to change his account over. He has got it ready this time though! Wink

MabelWotsits · 30/08/2017 20:56

Time is flying!

It seems as though everyone is getting sorted now.

I'm also on the Facebook group which I'm finding really helpful and lots of my questions are being answered BlushGrin

(What I wish I knew about uni )

For uni mum/dads/students

stonecircle · 30/08/2017 22:08

We have lots of dog cushions already - might hide one in ds3's bag Wink

Reminds me of when we took DS2 off to uni a couple of years ago. He's a big, tough, no nonsense rugby player. Car was packed (to the gunnels), ds2 was about to get in the car but said, 'hang on' and rushed back into the house. After a bit I followed him in and found him on his knees, arms round and head buried in the neck of our old Labrador. The mental image still reduces me to tears.

hugoagogo · 30/08/2017 22:19

Gawd stone what are you doing to me?Sad
I know the only one of us ds will miss is, our little pusscat. < howls>

Haffdonga · 30/08/2017 22:26

That brings tears to my eyes too Stonecircle . It sounds so like our ds1 who also went 2 years ago. He desperately missed the dog but never admitted he missed us. Somehow it was OK to come home for regular visits to see the dog . Wink

BestIsWest · 30/08/2017 22:29

DD used to Skype just to see the dog (still does).

Horsemad · 30/08/2017 22:46

Oh stone, I am proper sobbing now Sad

Mytimenow · 30/08/2017 22:52

Asked ds1 if he wanted a cushion with my face on, he said yes..... We'll need something for a dartboard!! And all my hopes were dashed. Haha

Horsemad · 30/08/2017 22:56

Grin Cheeky!

MabelWotsits · 30/08/2017 22:57

Stone you've set me off.

stonecircle · 30/08/2017 23:05

It was like Christopher Robin growing up or Andy in Toy Story going to college and leaving his old friend behind. Tissue anyone?

Horsemad · 30/08/2017 23:21

Waaaah, STOP!

Bisquitine · 31/08/2017 00:28

Aww Stone, that made me well up. Sniffs.

HSMMaCM · 31/08/2017 08:53

Stone - you've made people all over the country cry now Grin

ErrolTheDragon · 31/08/2017 09:35

Yeah, DD was (jokingly, I think) asking whether when I visit my company office in Cambridge (which I may have to do in October) I can bring the dog. And if we do skype that'll definitely be so she can see the dog... well, fair enough, he's a bit useless on phone or email...

She considered, but I think rejected, the idea of having him sleep on her new pillow to infuse it with his scent.Grin

AtiaoftheJulii · 31/08/2017 10:25

My dd2 stuck a photo of herself on the wall by the dog's favourite bed Grin

Abra1d · 31/08/2017 11:08

You lot have made me well up thinking of my daughter saying good bye to the dog in two weeks' time. Sniff.

The dog will now take on the role she has always coveted--supreme leader and most cosseted family member. 😄

Auntpetunia2015 · 31/08/2017 11:40

Oh you're all so much more organised than we are DS is continually saying yeah I'll sort that..to anything I ask about packing. I'm off to tesco today to get some boxes for him to start putting stuff in. And to clear the pile of stuff I've got gathering in my dining room, plates duvets pillows etc. I hadn't thought about pictures for him to take - don't thing he'd be too bothered really but might print one of the 3 of us off for him taken on his 18th. DD (15) will miss him despite constantly saying she won't. No dogs to miss in this house

Horsemad · 31/08/2017 15:48

We took a family photo when DS1 was leaving for uni, literally as he was leaving! I still can't look at it without feeling choked up!

AmazingDisgrace · 31/08/2017 16:46

DS is off to Edinburgh next week. He's travelling up by train and taking two big suitcases with him. He opted for the bedding pack through university so that is one less thing to think about. Anything else he can pick up at Argos/Ikea etc. My Dad was driving up this week and took a few bulky items that he wanted up and dropped them off as most of our family is up there.

Mytimenow · 31/08/2017 18:08

Sorted student bank account out with Santander in branch today and no UCAS code needed just looked at email acceptance and all opened. Just waiting for code to get railcard. They've done a bank switch so no need to contact student finance as all done automatically, so loan should go into new account. I hope!!
