We have a box full of post- induction hob pans but I'm darned if I can find them.

Oh, photo of dog....

Horsemad · 29/08/2017 20:47

I thought about photos and then thought it might make him homesick!!

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 29/08/2017 20:54

I have just made one of those little photo books

Mainly photos of the three children together

Just so he remembers what we look like Smile

Mamia15 · 29/08/2017 21:22

Everything my DC get will be old or second hand - as so much will get lost or damaged so if there is any shopping to be done it will be for the family home (e.g new duvets for when they come to stay).

HSMMaCM · 30/08/2017 10:57

After my shopping trip with DD yesterday. I started to feel quite sad. She's really going now Sad

Horsemad · 30/08/2017 11:07

How did it go HSMMaCM? I have still got to get stuff for DS2. I can't find anything DS1 brought back, he packed it all randomly and it's in boxes in the garage, so cutlery with study folders, and crockery with wet weather gear etc!!! Hmm

indulgentberries · 30/08/2017 11:10

Me too, I was awake at 3am working out how many nights left at home. It's not enough.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 30/08/2017 11:11

horse

Ds1 is fairly organised but i suggested labelling stuff for his room separately from kitchen stuff

That way when he moves in dh and i can stay out if his way and sort the biring kitchen stuff while he does his room

Though he has just informed me that he wants a whisk...after getting his dad to side with him that i was buying too much kitchen stuff and stressing him out

hoyhoy44 · 30/08/2017 12:54

dd has been applying for jobs and got an interview for one day next week, she has phoned up but thats the only day interviews are been held so she is planning on going for day (its 3.5/4 hours on public transport) and try and hand some cvs out too !

Horsemad · 30/08/2017 14:13

She's being very proactive which is great hoy Smile

Abra1d · 30/08/2017 14:40

cutlery with study folders, and crockery with wet weather gear etc!!!

My son would think that this made perfect sense, Horsemad.

Horsemad · 30/08/2017 15:13

Lol Abra1d Grin it made me all twitchy when I saw how he'd packed...

Horsemad · 30/08/2017 15:15

Rufus, when DS1 left for uni, I made him do it like that but he obviously didn't remember what a good idea it was! Hmm

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 30/08/2017 16:22

horse

I think it was the 'me and daddy will sort the kitchen and leave you alone in the bedroom' that swung it Grin

After is AS levels i finially heard him say i was right about flash cards...it took a few years, maybe you have that to look forward to Grin

HSMMaCM · 30/08/2017 16:43

The shopping went ok. I think we have most of what she needs. I was only going to get her one saucepan, but 3 were cheaper than one! Not sure if that will spell a washing up disaster though.
We also had the debate about a whisk and decided she can use a fork instead. She did choose her baking sheet carefully "for when I bake cookies".

Still on the list :
A black flannel
Random wash stuff
Vicks nose stick
Air freshener
Oven gloves
And FOOD

Horsemad · 30/08/2017 17:09

Has anyone bought a nice desk lamp? I've seen a lovely LED one online but the company looked a bit dodgy, so would prefer to purchase from somewhere else.

HSMMaCM · 30/08/2017 17:24

DD wanted to buy one from Ikea yesterday, but we didn't for 2 reasons.

  1. we have a perfectly good one she can take and
  2. we don't know what the lighting is like in her room yet. She NEVER uses her desk at home.
BestIsWest · 30/08/2017 17:31

Still having trouble with the Bank account. DS has made phone calls to them and to UCAS and neither have been remotely helpful. 'We may not be able to sort it out at all' said the building society to him on the phone this morning. He's got an appointment to go in and see them on Friday so I may go with him.

Honestly, you want to treat them as adults and let them sort things out themselves but it's so frustrating.

They are not the only student account around even if he does have quite a bit of savings with them (as do we). They can be moved.

Rant over.

Horsemad · 30/08/2017 17:56

Who is that with Best?

DS had problems with Santander but it was because he'd not activated his PIN in his ordinary current a/c and had not used the a/c at all.
He was told to go away and use the a/c and then try again, so has an appt next week to swap to student a/c.

OddBoots · 30/08/2017 18:05

We haven't got a desk lamp but we have bought a sunrise alarm clock as he loves the one he has at home and it can be used as a gentle light.

BestIsWest · 30/08/2017 18:08

Nationwide. He's been through the online process to switch his current account to a student account several times using the code from UCAS but it won't work. They can't do it over the phone. He's used the short form of his name on the UCAS application (why? Why didn't the school check it?) which may be why it's not working but they weren't very helpful either when he rang them.

He uses the account regularly so I don't think it's that.

He's severely dyslexic/dyspraxic and gets very stressed about things like this. Sometimes his thought processes are not as logical as they could be.

Horsemad · 30/08/2017 18:14

There is nothing more infuriating than trying to get something done by the bank on the phone!

Apparently you can't just turn up in branch and get the account changed over to a student one in Santander; nope, have to make an appt.

OddBoots, I want one of those clocks, they sound great. Smile

Haffdonga · 30/08/2017 18:28

How annoying about the bank accounts. Ds has gone for the Santander one and touch wood it's all gone through smoothly. His free 4 year railcard turned up today thank goodness because I've booked him an expensive train trip next week banking on the card arriving.

Just had an idea about photos of family. DS has scorned the idea of having family photos on display.(Not cool in front of new flatmates who obviously have no family at all of their own Hmm ). He has agreed that he likes a cushion though, so I'm getting him one of those cushions with a photo of the dog printed on it.

These

Very pleased with my idea to sneak the family in in the soft furnishings!

ErrolTheDragon · 30/08/2017 18:35

I think DD got a santander student ac set up either over internet or phone without trouble, suprisingly. Maybe easier because she didn't already have any sort of ac with them.Confused

Our plan is to try to get most of what she'll need now, because we're enjoying the trips with her (DH's turn to dunelm mills yesterday) whereas usually she hates shopping and will have much better things to do when she gets there. Apart from the actual work when term starts, she showed me the freshers timetable... oh to be young again!

ErrolTheDragon · 30/08/2017 18:39

DD said she didn't need any photos, not even of the dog - but she has plenty of those, plus a few pics of us on holiday I think, on her phone.
