Talking of TV, I was shocked by the number of people carting 40" tvs up to their rooms.

DS2 made some noise about moving bedrooms when DS1 went but eventually stayed put. Makes sense not to leave the bigger room empty though, I agree.

user327854831 · 16/09/2017 22:24

It'll be staying empty here, neither of them wanted to swap bedrooms - DC1 didn't mind and DC2 wanted to keep the room they have got now so nothing is changing here. DC2 has a second room downstairs that is as well as the bedroom because it's a tiny bedroom.

tobee · 16/09/2017 22:47

DS said to me earlier on today "when I leave home properly, when I'm older..."

I cut him off and said "ah, now, you do know your never actually leaving, don't you?"

Smileand Sad

BehindTheBlueDoor · 16/09/2017 22:53

Thought DS2 would jump at the chance of swapping bedrooms but he said no. Apparently it'll be odd enough without his big brother being around and he wants to maintain a sense of normality as much as possible. I nearly shed a tear.

We've been out for a last family beer tonight, after today it will be just be me and DH. 😢
We are both pissed and emotional 😢

Horsemad · 17/09/2017 00:22

TheMightyMing · 17/09/2017 00:36

Thanks Horse, mumsnet at its best x

user327854831 · 17/09/2017 06:50

Just went to knock on their door to wake them up 😢

Auntpetunia2015 · 17/09/2017 07:28

We're going to have a fun day. My back went yesterday not even when I was helping DS sort stuff. Managed to get an emergency physio appointment thought it seemed ok. But oh dear do bad I've hardly slept every time I move feel like someone's sticking a hot poker in my back and at 3am I met DS on the kitchen as neither of us could sleep! And soon I have to drive to Preston..

sweatylemon · 17/09/2017 07:29

Dropped My DS1 off yesterday. It was awful I know it has to be, but still it feels so quiet now. Ridiculous really as he stayed in bed until midday (every day)
DD1 moves in to her new house in 2 weeks as she will be starting work.
So will just be me and DD2
They are all doing so well, but would love to have them with me a bit longer.

OddBoots · 17/09/2017 07:51

Sending good wishes to all those dropping off today.

After struggling to sleep on Friday night before our drop off I was worn out from the activities of the day yesterday so slept soundly from 9.30 last night right through to 6 this morning.

DS has just sent me a whatsapp so I know he is doing fine after his first night out at the SU last night. It even included a 'love you momma'.

He is off for a swim this morning then he is going to Tesco for forgotten items (teaspoons and pins and another frying pan).

I am already feeling better than I did yesterday, it's odd but okay.

TheMightyMing · 17/09/2017 07:51

I'm up! Going to get a breakfast on and wake them up! The day has come 😫😢

Horsemad · 17/09/2017 08:21

Chin up, chest out Ming! You can do this. Smile

clarenceparence · 17/09/2017 08:27

Good luck guys!

I'm dropping mine off today .... both me and hubbie had a good cry last night - second time I've seen him cry EVER! I think we'll be alright today while busy, although I could be wrong!

Ours is an only child so it'll be VERY quiet when we get home. Let's get busy!

Thinking of you all this weekend

rogueantimatter · 17/09/2017 08:28

Best wishes MightyMing

Congratulations on your GC Oldie

Any Scottish parents here? DS hasn't got his student loan payment yet.

Any parents of students studying in London?

ErrolTheDragon · 17/09/2017 08:30

Best wishes to today's contingent. Hope you're ok, Auntpetunia - driving with a bad back is no fun, do you have far to come? (For me Preston is come, not go, its my nearest city)

TheMightyMing · 17/09/2017 08:31

Clarence my DS is an only child too!

On a serious note guys , I've been in the BBC website and there's been a bad crash in Gloucestershire, I'm rubbish with Geography but it says the M5 north bound will be closed all of today? Worth checking out as I've seen people mentioning trips to Bristol on here.

Thanks horse 😘

TheMightyMing · 17/09/2017 08:32

Oddboots just read you post and your sons message has set me off crying. Bloody hell, going to be a long day...

clarenceparence · 17/09/2017 08:35

Aww Mighty I totally get you! I'm trying to vaguely hold it together for him, it's definitely a very strange feeling today - at least the sun is shining so the move will be less soggy 👍🏻

TheMightyMing · 17/09/2017 08:40

Bit drizzly here (NW) and I'm nursing a mild hangover 😩 Not the best combo

Dumbledoresgirl · 17/09/2017 08:43

Good luck to anyone sending their child off today. I'm an old hand at this, and I still cry when the new year starts. It is such a physical wrench.

Anyway, I see it has been mentioned already, but I am local to the big M5 crash that happened yesterday so I came here to warn anyone using the M5 near Bristol that it is still closed today northbound. Between junctions 15 and 14, I think, but 15 is where the M5 meets the M4 and there are several junctions close by so tailbacks and congestion can affect several routes. Do leave early if you are going to be using that bit of the motorway (northbound only, the southbound carriageway reopened earlier today).

Auntpetunia2015 · 17/09/2017 08:54

Thanks errol am a bit better now as something clicked a while ago. On driving from Liverpool and fortunately I've pinched my OHs fancy automatic Volvo so again that will make it easier than my little punto would have been. It's wet and horrible here and kids are both still asleep I'm gonna have a coffee and a shower then get a full English on the go that should wake them.

Will try and hold it together but can hopefull pass off any tears as being due to my back. As poor DS wasn't much good at 3am so don't want to set him off.

ErrolTheDragon · 17/09/2017 09:03

The weather is ok here, chance of rain later in the afternoon but hopefully will be dry for his moving in.

We're off out for a walk - DD is going to miss the hills. Though as she'll be cycling, maybe not that much!
