That's exactly what I said. No fuss, just that.

Auntpetunia2015 · 15/09/2017 21:10

Last major shop here tonight. And apparently tomorrow all ds needs to do is throw some clothes in the bag! Erm, good job mums sorted most other stuff. Off Sunday morning here. So tomorrow will be a packing and sorting day for last bits. Think it's just hit him as I mentioned something for Monday night and he said "yeah no worries i can...oh god I'm not here am I? " I'm sure his bottom lip quivered a bit , but didn't say anything. Gulp my boy is leaving home ...

Fairenuff · 15/09/2017 21:20

Ds is also at Gloucester Horse and user although he's on the Cheltenham campus. We are here already! Came the night before to get in early tomorrow morning - no set time slot so he'll unpack and then we'll take him to the local supermarket and fill up his fridge and cupboards. After that, he's on his own.

Traffic was horrendous but at least we're here. He's gone to the spa in our hotel with his dad and I'm just chilling after a long day at work.

lazydog I've given my ds 'the talk' about letting us know if he gets overwhelmed or doesn't like his course. It's good that your ds let you know how he felt as so many students try to struggle on and do what they think is expected of them. Nothing is set in stone, there are so many options for them. I think your advice was good and once he finds his feet he will have a better idea of where he is most comfortable.

Car is packed. Just the guitar, skateboard, PlayStation, laptop and food from the fridge to go in now. Oh and us!

It's only San hours journey and no slot but he wants to be there by 10. We are to drop his stuff off and go.

He's disappeared to his room for a bit but will reappear at 10 past 10 as he does every night when he's in as he and DH have a ritual of watching whatever TV box set they're following at that time of night. DH will be lost tomorrow night.

OddBoots · 15/09/2017 21:37

Our car is packed, I was a bit worried about it fitting but it does. 14yo DD has requested a family breakfast before we head off, ds is quite honoured that she would get up early enough as we need to leave by 8am.

Apocalyptichorsewoman · 15/09/2017 22:28

Oh God - can I join in? PFB is off to Leeds uni tomorrow - I still have a few bits to get and we are packing in the morning, going up and staying in a B&B overnight, then dropping him off sunday am- booked our slot etc...

He is 20 - he's the oldest in his academic year, and also had a year out working /bogging off to Norway with a tent etc.

But still...

user327854831 · 15/09/2017 22:35

How are we supposed to get any sleep tonight?!

Horsemad · 15/09/2017 22:38

Ha, it's nearly as bad as the night before A level results... Grin

user327854831 · 15/09/2017 22:41

Ha! Yes

I'm off to bed and hope I sleep, I'm going to find a boring not emotional book to read tonight, I was a wreck in the early hours of this morning when the book I was reading quoted Charlotte's Web 'Nobody was with her when she died' - I cried buckets! I'm normally a hard-hearted bitch so it's not like me.

Oldie2017 · 15/09/2017 22:43

One twin driven by me today. Very large room which looks like it was last designed around 1910 and could be the location for a film about university life in those days almost.....e xcept the fire place isn't operational and I suppose it does have a radiator....but he's happy and away for 2 nights now on a field trip. Got home and spent most of the evening helping his twin pack and we leave first thing tomorrow (different hall tomorrow). Today was easy because he came early and it was peaceful.

One was saying in the car today some boys from school are just going by train and how can they have so few things. I suppose it just depends what you choose to take. My son today had stuff like 3 musical instruments, 3 differnt sports rackets, a large box of tins (they are all his food so might as well be with him not me here not eating them), small fridge./ We took their TV but he decided not to take it in as never watches it so it's back home.

All well so far . I am just a bit tired and also behind with work but I can work all day on Sunday to make up.

TheMightyMing · 15/09/2017 23:39

Aldi airer was £12.99, Tesco had the MInky one on offer for £14.00 a few weeks ago. Saw a cheaper one in home bargains think it was £8.99. Ikea do a basic wire one for a fiver I think. Who knew I would become the world authority on airers ( or maidens as we call them in the north west 😂😂). I actually haven't bought One yet . The house rules say no sryimg clothes on room only designated drying areas so I thought I'd see what that area looks like first. Though I did buy one of the ikea octopuses that you use to peg socks and undies to.

Horsemad · 15/09/2017 23:40

Yep, maidens Grin that's what we call them.

user327854831 · 16/09/2017 05:40

Oh god. This is it. I'm so excited about all the opportunities that are there for the taking but Sad

Horsemad · 16/09/2017 06:15

Yup, it's a huge leap towards independence; have a good day, hope all goes well. Smile

BestIsWest · 16/09/2017 08:22

Leaving in a hour.

hugoagogo · 16/09/2017 08:30

I feel sick.

HSMMaCM · 16/09/2017 08:48

I'm watching you all this weekend, so I can be prepared for Wednesday.

BehindTheBlueDoor · 16/09/2017 08:51

Feeling for you all this weekend. We've got another two weeks and it will feel strange as most of DSs mates have now gone. Safe journeys all x

TheMightyMing · 16/09/2017 09:16

Safe trips all, I'm feeling it for you! My turn tomorrow x

MorvahRising · 16/09/2017 10:18

Good luck everyone going this weekend - we've still got another week to go!

LIZS · 16/09/2017 10:22

Good luck everyone, it was us last year and felt very strange for first few weeks. FlowersBrewCake

Apocalyptichorsewoman · 16/09/2017 10:39

Mine is packing now... Got sent out for an emergency door -stop Confused

ErrolTheDragon · 16/09/2017 10:41

I don't understand why a doorstop seems to be a student essential.Confused

hugoagogo · 16/09/2017 11:23

Ds can whistle for a doorstop! There is no more room in the car, I may have to stay behind.

Apocalyptichorsewoman · 16/09/2017 11:51

Hugo Grin

Errol - I dunno either. He also asked for a bucket... Hmm

He's been dandling in the foothills of walking around his case and taking down posters and now things are going in the case.

As we are away overnight, the dog has gone to my friends house, so at least she isn't underneath. My friend has taken her to some Labour event, and last I heard, my dog had a red rosette on her and was being petted by Owen Jones...

I can't see this lot fitting in the car - I really can't. Perhaps I shall leave behind my ex husband Grin
