We did a quick trip round Sainsbury's today to get the store cupboard stuff. I haven't bought instant mashed potato since I was at university!

DS has bought a Cards Against Humanity set which he thinks might be a good icebreaker on the odd evening in. I've never played it but he assures me it's a Big Thing.

We have ordered two large underbed storage boxes; I was sure they would fit under his bed but now they've arrived they look enormous! I suspect we may end up bringing them home again.

TheMightyMing · 15/09/2017 00:27

I nearly bought under bed storage but luckily having done a recce of the allocated accommodation not needed because the bed has three drawers ( which will definitely be getting lined with paper by me!).
My son asked for a fruit bowl for his room, he is partial to an apple or banana, I obliged as it might be the only bit of healthy eating he does!

God knows what parents who haven't seen the rooms have bought, I was frankly shocked at how basic they were. I mean- is a lamp shade too much to ask for ?

Luckily we are fairly close by train and so we can supplement requirements easily enough.

Morvah- instant mash :) might introduce DS to it! He's never had a pot noodle, or in fact anything of that Ilk in his life, I suppose he will be doing soon enough !

Just before you sparkling, you'll be arriving as we have finished. See you on the m5!

We haven't seen the rooms so an emergency shopping trip might be needed.

BestIsWest · 15/09/2017 07:32

DH is taking DS food shopping today and picking up a few last minute things.

He's found out that he knows two of the six boys in his flat from 6th form college so he's really pleased about that. Another is on the next floor.

dingit · 15/09/2017 08:57

I keep buying more stuff when I read this thread

Should I be worried that dd has asked for a large bottle of fabreeze ( this seemed to tie in with her reading the launderette charges...)

MorvahRising · 15/09/2017 09:11

TheMighty Ming DS turned his nose up at the idea of instant mash and said it sounds revolting and he'll be making mash with proper potatoes. I said that the road to hell is paved with good intentions etc and I bet he'll be glad of it at some stage. We shall see if it returns intact at Christmas! Glad to hear I won't be the only one lining the drawers . . . .

We are taking an entire lamp, shade and all, as there is no desk lamp provided. Luckily there was a spare one in the attic although DS insisted on changing the shade as he felt it wasn't in keeping with the image he wants to project!

bigTillyMint · 15/09/2017 09:12

Well DD went out to a party last night - all leaving for uni. When I asked wht she was only taking half a bottle of Echo Falls, she listed a whole load of stuff she has to get done today Grin

Shes taking DS out for a last supper tonight - just the two of them, before DH and I take her to uni tomorrow morning Smile

Horsemad · 15/09/2017 09:36

What's the thing with lining the drawers?

Horsemad · 15/09/2017 09:37

Awe, bTM, that's lovely just her and her brother Smile

TheMightyMing · 15/09/2017 10:12

The drawers looked a bit...used. To say the least , I wouldn't want my clothes stored in them, but then I don't think he really cares to be honest.
Febreze is in the cleaning bag, I think I'll have to give the room the once over before we start unpacking.

I haven't packed a potato masher and I'm not buying anything else now, I've spent enough !

Horsemad · 15/09/2017 10:49

Oh hopefully DS's room will be ok, the accommodation only opened last year.

bigTillyMint · 15/09/2017 12:18

What, no potato masher Shock

Grin

DD knows more or less exactly what her room will be like as her ex bf was in the same block last year!

BehindTheBlueDoor · 15/09/2017 12:54

I'm winding my DS up by suggesting I put in a range of gravy boats to ensure at least one tones in with the range of crockery in the flat. He's not responding well. Wink

MorvahRising · 15/09/2017 13:43

When we were in IKEA we overheard another student saying to her mum that she needed a melon baller, a casserole dish which will hold twelve servings and both red and white wine glasses! Not that we were eavesdropping or anything, of course Wink. Whoever ends up in a flat with her is in for a treat; she is clearly a serious cook. We didn't bother with a melon baller.

BehindTheBlueDoor · 15/09/2017 13:51

GrinI only hope she doesn't forget to pack the grape scissors.

TheMightyMing · 15/09/2017 13:57

I don't even have a melon baller myself !

HSMMaCM · 15/09/2017 14:22

DD asked for a potato masher and I told her she could use a fork. I don't think she's even heard of a melon baller and I won't be mentioning it.

Lining drawers though ... there's something I hadn't though of. I might just put the bags at the bottom of the drawer.

Haffdonga · 15/09/2017 14:39

We leave tomorrow. Early. Ds asked me to wake him up by 9 as he has so much to do. Can you guess where this is going?

Exactly. Nowhere. DS remains headphoned and horizontal. Grrrr.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 15/09/2017 14:44

We leave at 8.30

As his booking in time is between 9 and 10 and they prefer you to get there on time

Everyone he knows is booking in on Sunday

He does not have a melon baller

LittleHo · 15/09/2017 14:44

Good luck for those leaving tomorrow. Still a couple of weeks for us.

HSMMaCM · 15/09/2017 15:02

Haffdonga wake him up by 9pm today.

Rufus glad we're not the only ones without a melon baller Grin.

20 condoms and some migraine head patched bought today. Think I'm done now.

Oh ... and also a new home card.

bigTillyMint · 15/09/2017 16:07

Just came home to find a package for DD on the doorstep (she was in her room watching TV of course) It was a student pack from Nationwide with choccy biccies, can of drink, sweets, cards and some other games. Plus a big rubber key thing ConfusedGrin

EmmaGrundyForPM · 15/09/2017 16:16

My son is off next weekend. He'll be in catered halls so haven't had to buy much kitchen stuff.

All his friends are going off this weekend so he will be at a loose end next week. I hope that means he'll concentrate on packing but somehow I doubt it....

We are having a dilemma about getting v the stuff there. I have a large 4x4 which ypud think. Would be perfect. However ds is taking his bike which will only for in with half of the back seat down, plus his large desktop pc. So that's basically all the boot space gone. I've now bought a roof rack for my car so that we can use the roof box which usually goes on dh's smaller car. It just seems ridiculous.

user327854831 · 15/09/2017 16:50

We have a tiny hatchback - it's great for focusing their mind on what they really need! We've hired a bigger car for tomorrow so I'm going to be driving a strange car on a strange motorway going to a strange place. Piece of cake.
