Thanks both user and Errol

Yes Helen, that's why DD wants one!
I fear a trip to the pound shops this week.

Hollybollybingbong · 10/09/2017 15:56

Just realised, salt and pepper, every time I think I've finished the list I think of something new.

He does know how to use a shop so I know he'll be fine, I just want him focusing on making friends for the first week not running around supermarkets!

unfortunateevents · 10/09/2017 16:13

Eve and Banana Sandwiches yes, have been hugely impressed with Loughborough at all stages of the application process. Their communication is clear and timely, the one time I had to call one of the offices there they were really friendly and efficient. They produced a great lunch on the day we attended for interviews, if that is indicative of the standard of catering DS will be a happy boy! Have loved the various cards and teasers they have sent to DS by mail (still waiting for him to complete the "Thank You" card which arrived on A level results day (maybe DS thinks because he had a deferred place it doesn't apply to him!). Maybe all unis are similarly on the ball, so far we only have experience of other Open Days but will find out soon as we are about to embark on round 2 of the uni visits for DS2!

OddBoots · 10/09/2017 16:16

That is great to hear about Loughbourough, my DS is off to Sheffield (with which I have also been impressed) but DD likes the look of Loughbourough in a few years.

ErrolTheDragon · 10/09/2017 16:18

Oh, I got DD a salt mill - the cheap plastic sort on the spice shelf. She looked a bit surprised until I pointed out she likes to add salt to some things and that table salt comes in rather large packs.
No pepper, she doesn't like it.

user327854831 · 10/09/2017 16:22

We've been getting lots of letters from the uni, they seem to be turning up daily sometimes! What is irritating is all the emails from universities basically touting for business; there have been loads since results day - why?!

Oldie2017 · 10/09/2017 16:25

I suspect the requirement for a cheque book just has not been updated from the hall's 28 booklet in a while but I want them to have a cheque book just in case in due course, Occasionally their older sisters need cheques. They might as well apply for the book even if it only arrives next week when they've gone.

I cannot interest either in any packing or shopping at all -= even the one without pyjamas or dressing gown (he sleeps naked or in his pants) but hopefully I can twist their arm tomorrow to get on with ordering a few things otherwise that's great for me - they buy it all once they arrive and I don't have to bother. They had a good time out last night and just left for a steam/sauna and swim with a friend. It will all be fine. Their brother is progressing his packing / moving (and departure of his tenants next weekend who have been model tenants and even paid the last few days of rent that was due today).

I wonder if the windows open at the hall? One has never slept with a shut window for a single night in his life I think and even on ski holidays has to find a way to open hotel windows so if it doesn't open he may not be happy. It's an 1800s building so hopefully it does have opening windows.

HSMMaCM · 10/09/2017 16:38

I bet he carries on sleeping in his pants. On one open day we were greeted by a student cooking scrambled eggs, wearing only pants.

Fortysix · 10/09/2017 16:50

For those still to send DCs on public transport to residences may I recommend... ordering online and having the IKEA delivery sent straight to residence, getting the duvet, pillows, cushions and heavy kitchen stuff sent by courier, Royal Mail Parcelforce 24 or 48.

My DC turned up at residence at 10.00 am yesterday. Ikea delivery was there day before as per plan and separate 8 boxes arrived using Saturday delivery. Cost us £70 but blooming worth every damn penny.

Horsemad · 10/09/2017 17:27

Grin HSMMaCM - that will be DS (except he won't be cooking scrambled eggs, gates them!). I asked him if he wants a dressing gown and he looked at me like I was crazy.

He may change his mind if they have a few fire alarms in the early hours...

Horsemad · 10/09/2017 17:27

*hates, not gates!

LIZS · 10/09/2017 17:31

Bathroves or onesies were definitely order of the day last year.

ErrolTheDragon · 10/09/2017 17:53

DD was thinking about sensible pjs last xmas - (a) decent (b) not 'novelty' ones.

'Bathrove' is an excellent term for a garment to be worn between bedroom and bathroom in shared accommodation!Grin

Horsemad · 10/09/2017 17:55

Ha ha, yes bathrove - could be a new marketing ploy there! Grin

Haffdonga · 10/09/2017 18:43

Mine will be one of those students in their pants. He has met his flatmates on Facebook - all (5) girls so far! I have suggested, pleaded with ds to consider that he might want to have more than pants for bedroom wear but he assures me he wont need anything else and tracky bottoms will do for pulling on in a fire practice. However I think he is desperately hoping there will be at least one other male as moral support.

Poor girls

Haffdonga · 10/09/2017 18:46

DS is already referring to his flatmates ironically as my girls Hmm

HSMMaCM · 10/09/2017 19:05

DD only has one boy in her house of girls so far, but she's not in touch with everyone yet.

bigTillyMint · 10/09/2017 19:41

HaffdongaGrin

I dont think DD has been told which flat she is in yetConfused

Oldie2017 · 10/09/2017 19:56

Given my son was telling his university was 60% women and his course more women than men (very good stats if you are male) the fact his unit in halls is 12 men may not be great news; but probably more straighforward than being mixed I suppose.

user327854831 · 10/09/2017 20:24

We've got no idea yet if it's mixed or not, it's a mixed and not single sex flat but you don't know which flat you are in and who your flatmates are until you arrive. Everybody has an en-suite room so there will be no embarrassment on the way to the bathroom. I have given instructions advice to leave a dressing gown on the back of the door and slippers by the bed for a fire drill. I wonder if they do them in the middle of the night?!

RedHelenB · 10/09/2017 21:07

I think they do!

user327854831 · 11/09/2017 02:23

Insomnia strikes...lying awake feeling sick. Only 4 more nights Sad

Oldie2017 · 11/09/2017 08:08

Slightly the other way round for me - waiting for a week's time when no one will wake me at night..... (I have 3 leaving at once so that's quite a change). I am hoping today at least one of the university 2 will sit down and have a think about what they need and do some ordering of stuff. I think they should make an area each in the house to put stuff and start getting it ready rather than plan to do it the day before.

HSMMaCM · 11/09/2017 08:23

When DD rolled in at 4am this morning, I was thinking how I won't miss that when she leaves. I'll be blissfully unaware who she's with and what time she gets back to her room.

I won't be able to pop my head round her bedroom door in the morning and see her little sleeping face though.

I also won't find the dish in the dishwasher which has just been put in with all the uneaten food still in it! I can't understand why she does that? I asked her yesterday where she thinks it goes!

I will miss her making me a cup of tea when I haven't had a break all day.

So many mixed emotions.
