Rufus, I'm sorry.

Re the duvets, if they have a single bed I think my DD's idea of taking two of different togs was sensible- she doesn't like being either chilly or overheated so that gives most flexibility.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 09/09/2017 19:01

Thank you errol

One got Halls email today about where he is roughly in the Hall (single sex, in block of 12, single bed which is fine as no one has a double bed in our house so at least my sheets will fit!). There seem to be things he should buy like a gown and he needs black shoes. For 3 years at school he's been wearing shoes with visible hole on the top - ridiculous. Last year we even ordered one pair (didn't like them, sent back; second - hurt him and then gave up. Now he has about 3 days to get some in a few other things. I am sure it will all work out okay.

Oldie2017 · 10/09/2017 08:01

By the way his Halls say bring a cheque book. When they set up their student account in July I tried to persuade the twins to get a cheque book I think but no interest. Now we find it requires a call to Nat West and takes at least 5 working days (and you have to set up telephone banking to do it - weird when natwest want everyone on on line banking - must be an anti fraud measure) so that will after they have left by the time it arrives (and paying in book).

I suppose I can send the cheque books on.

OddBoots · 10/09/2017 08:18

That is strange, I've not heard of cheques being used for much for years, what do they say it is for?

BananaSandwichesEveryDay · 10/09/2017 08:18

@Eve. @unfortunateevents

Towers is so tall! DC was in a hall nearer to David Collect, nice, central position within the campus. I loved how each hall has its own 'feel'and how welcoming they were. When we took DC on moving day, I was ridiculously touched by the welcome pack given to each student. Not sure if that was a halls thing, or a university thing. Either way it was a lovely touch.

Hope your dcs have as good a time at Loughborough as my DC did.

BestIsWest · 10/09/2017 08:56

DS was saying yesterday that he just wants to go now to get started and yet doesn't want to leave home at the same time.
He emerged from the bathroom with bright green hair last night - ready to make an impression Grin Hmm

Horsemad · 10/09/2017 09:03

Mine went out with his footy team last night for his 'leaving do' Sad

ByTheSea · 10/09/2017 09:23

We moved her in yesterday and now I'm dying to know how her first night went.

bigTillyMint · 10/09/2017 10:12

Horse, was he sad? Or drunk 😁

Im wondering what pans to give DD - shared flat in halls, between them they will probably end up with loads of frying pans! She also wants a potato masher and a smoothie maker. Have said no to smoothie maker but yes to masher!

ErrolTheDragon · 10/09/2017 10:15

Would a stick blender work to make smoothies? I've never used one but they seem quite cheap, small (important with limited cupboard space) and (cruciallyGrin) presumably fairly easy to wash up.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 10/09/2017 10:28

Oh my god

Stick blenders

I still have the one I bought to wean ds1

I am joking...about being that distressed, the blender bit is true

It would manage soft fruit smoothies i would think

horse ds1 is going out to a nightclub kn the Thursday and is spending friday night with us

Horsemad · 10/09/2017 10:56

Don't know bTM , he stayed at his friend's! I am just off to collect him now Smile

Horsemad · 10/09/2017 10:57

I've still got the blender I bought for weaning my DS1 as well Rufus. It's practically an heirloom now! Grin

kath6144 · 10/09/2017 11:52

Sorry to hear about your MIL Rufus, hope the DC are coping OK, and you and your DH. We lost my mum 18mths ago, DS was in the room when we got the call, DD we told next morning, she was the most emotional. It was expected, mum had cancer and we knew when we spent xmas with her 7wks previously that she wouldnt last long into new Year. She went into a home on NYE and had just celebrated her 90th a week before she died. We all thought she hung on for the big birthday then let herself go. I was relieved it hadn't happened in the middle of the kids doing GCSEs/A levels in the June.

In terms of double duvets, DS room last year was in a 2 yr old hall and was baking hot!! I think the only time he didnt have the window open was in depths of winter. He definitely only needed a thin duvet. Think this year could be a shock for him and his halls friends, moving into shared houses!!!!!

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 10/09/2017 12:00

Thanks kath have pmed you

BestIsWest · 10/09/2017 12:19

Funny, we were just talking about stick blenders. DS would like one. Anyone seen a cheap one?

user327854831 · 10/09/2017 12:38

£10 stick blender

ErrolTheDragon · 10/09/2017 12:43

Our Tk maxx had some just under a tenner - thats what made me think of them.

RedHelenB · 10/09/2017 15:09

No potato masher on the utensils list in the shared kitchen. I said I'd spent enough in her but couldn't refuse the bargain price of 50p reduced at Tesco! She loved her mash and gravy Smile

ErrolTheDragon · 10/09/2017 15:19

I've just been for an ASDA shop and picked up a set of small food boxes, a 75p grater, a small sewing kit, a pad of A5 notepaper and some envelopes. I meant to get a book of stamps but forgot.
